In the U.S., four states have already legalized recreational marijuana, namely Alaska, Colorado, Oregon, and Washington alongside with Washington D.C. While the business is completely legal there, and is mostly dedicated to medical purposes, American federal laws still consider marijuana businesses illegal.
For that reason, American banks are very reluctant in providing their services to Mary Jane operators. The thing is that the banks are obliged to comply with federal laws in the first place. However, while they may accept money originating from a pot, they still have to carry out prolonged procedures ensuring their compliance. Banks are at risk of losing their charter in case they fail at least in one step of the compliance procedure, so they mostly prefer to reject marijuana-based businesses completely, as the possible revenue they may obtain is negligible against the risk of losing everything.

Was there any reason for the price spike today? Seems odd, there's been very little growth over the past while but today it spiked 35% or more.
Looks like someone has decided to take a sizable position in CannabisCoin doesn't it.
Before anyone asks, no, I don't have any information to release at this time.

Does anyone have any opinions on the possible effects of AMD launching GPUOpen? For those who haven't yet heard about it there's an article on Bitcoinist today.
Potential sudden increases in hashing power/rates naturally figure in discussions on any possible block subsidy rate changes.

Sounds like they have rebuilt the method on how you access GPU resources including driver, runtime, compilers and programming languages by making it open source. This should be a positive for cryptocurrency in general because now it is alot easier to make applications due to the nature of open source .
The ROCK (Radeon Open Compute Kernel) open source kernel driver gives direct access to hardware and allows programmers to use:
Hardware queues and DMA engine via user mode APIs
Memory-based signaling and synchronization primitives
Platform atomics
Atomics memory operations
Shared virtual addressing
Flat memory addressing
Kernel device discovery
Device scheduling
System timestamping
Consistent system endianness
Preemptive kernel device context switch
Kernel device error reporting mechanism
If open source does make mining more efficient as they say it will then it will be interesting to see how much efficiency can be gained as well as the new applications that get developed.

Does burning this coin means burning the actual Marijuana? If so, this is the only coin that can take us to the high while we burn it unlike other alt coins 
why burning?
I think he means spending, rather like the old saying of coins "burning a hole in someone's pocket" to imply compulsive spending.

Unless we get some really hard proof that they actually will be going there not much will happen. Things have been way too quiet for way too long, some really good news is needed to push the price up. It has happened before so i am not saying it can not happen but given how slow it has lately been it is pretty unlikely. If you like gambling it could be good time to buy some because if we would ever see a pump again above 10k it would be a hell of a ride!
