Too bad for cryptsy users. I hope they can recover some loses. But the list includes xapo? I have been using xapo normally as of today, so I understand it is not dead yet. Will go check, just in case 

I'm sure we will see more and more as the years pass. How many fiat companies have come and gone. When companies get a chance to rip people off they will even more so with bitcoin because they still are anonymous.

Anyone with expertise in tracking transactions on the Blockchain working on gathering evidence for this bounty? I guess there are people skilled enough on the forum to take a stab at this.

Apparently Crypsty are offering a 1000 bitcoin bounty to whoever helps find the culprit of the stolen coins. The coins haven't been moved since the incident happened. I find it strange how this event more than an year ago has such an impact on the exchange now? They are filing for bankruptcy.

They "lost" 13000 BTC and 300000 LTC.... no exhange can recover from that.

You should add up Bonafide - the bitcoin reputation company that was setup but didn't really get much popularity. I really miss Brawker, I was a regular user there and till now can't find a service same as it.

Why is BTC Guild on this list ?   The dude who ran that was a class act and gave months and months warning he wanted everyone to clear out their balances.   He could have easily just sold it on but didnt in order to preserve the high standards to the end.
   Seems terrible to stick such an orderly and totally voluntary withdrawal from the scene alongside all these failures and thieves - at least put it in italics

Interesting.  I guess I really haven't been keeping up with crypto news, because I hadn't heard about Xapo being in trouble or about their vault services being unwanted or anything like that.  I do have a Xapo account for use with the faucets, but I don't keep any significant amount of coin there.

Cryptsy.  Yeah, I want to see the body before I believe they're dead but it's coming.

I don't think that Butterfly Labs should be on the list. Last news said that they opened a huge mining farm and that now they have the biggest hashpower on Earth.

My guess is that Blockstream could be added to the list once Classic fork happens, and Bitcoin goes to 2mb.   Blockstream has done a lot of damage to its credibility with recent behavior.  I see evidence that they are so deep into their strategy that they will approach this looming Fork Fight as a Live or Die battle.  It's obvious to most that Classic has the concensus and will prevail.  I think Blockstream's survival will depend on how they act in the coming months.

I mean, they are reaching the point of being considered poisonous to touch.  If they approach the upcoming Bitcoin Classic Upgrade/Fork with the same attitude they've shown the past month or two - then I see them dying after fork.  Nobody will touch them. 

After all - they aren't the only team capable of creating sidechain technology.  I predict that if they fight the inevitable evolution that is underway - their funding will dry up.

Xapo is being used by some new companies as a payment option,dont know is is the reward referal system making those companies forcing users to have xapo wallets,but well if paypal see potencial threat from bitcoin they will make their own project,instead spend a fortune to buy xapo or other company suposed broken.

Xapo doesn't have anything to buy.  It is a failed project.  First debit card - failed.  (due to dodgy Gibraltar bank) Then, they 'pivoted' into a vault company - a very dumb service nobody wants.  Paypal isn't in the business of buying garbage.  Xapo doesn't have any technology to buy.  

Record funding doesn't mean you are going to be successful, it means you've got a good showman to wow VCs.  Just look at 21.  They got over $110 million to make a RasberryPi into a very low performance minor.  The worst technology imaginable.  The dumbest bitcoiner out there said 'wtf?' upon seeing that piece of shit.  21 is not on the casualty list yet, but they will be soon.  As soon as they announce that their CEO is going to another company, I'll put them on there.  Like I said, the skeptics can wait around for the funeral, but the actual death occurs some time before that.

I can see this happening forsure. That is why they hired him the first place. Paypal sees themselves losing out on the bitcoin wave and want to know how they can cash in on it's success while they can.
