First of all great software Smiley

Got some troubles using profitable mining.

I set a schedule for switch profile to 1st most profitable every 6min.
But sometimes if he switch the next run time isn't update to the next 6min and it don't switch anymore.
Why is that?

Also the device settings is using the default settings for my card and can not change the vddc.
Is it overruling my config file?

I have 3 different rigs and want to use only 1 cgwatcher , is that possible?
I use an api from coinswarz and if I install it on the 3 rigs than the api calls is 3 times faster empty if u understand what I mean. So like to install it to 1 rig and control the 2 other rigs with 1 cgwatcher.

When using the settings "switch to profile without restarting miner when possible (beta)" the fan of my cards goes to a lower state and is overheating my card. Now I just don't use that settings and it's ok and its using the user defined fan profile of asus gpu tweak when Switching to another profile.

Thanks.

Hi,

i have a weird problem on my Windows 8.1 Test-Rig

When i use my config with a batch-file a get about 40-50 kh/s more
when i use cgwatcher with the same cgminer.exe / config-file i loose the 40-50kh/s

even if define a config it always uses E:\CGWatcher-1.3.4\temp.conf instead of the E:\CGMiner-LTCRabbit-V1\CGMiner LTCRabbit V1\cgminer-3.7.2-windows\cgminer.conf (value in profile)

ok - this is just my test-rig (main rig PSU is broken) ... but i can't figure out what is the problem!?

can i deliver something to investigate this bug?

I have the question: did anyone noticed performance issues after few days of mining?
With every single day, CGWatcher.exe process consumes more and more RAM. It starts with aprox. 30MB, and growing about 15MB per day.
After 5 days of continuous mining, process reached almost 100MB consumed memory :/
Also, my PC is running slower and slower, while CPU usage is minimal.
I think this application has severe resource leaks...

Hi milone,
thank you for the great tool. One feature request for a further version:

If you have enabled a time scheduled switching of the intensity and restart cgminer from CGWatcher into the low-activity period cgminer runs with the high intensity and you must reduce the intensity by hand. Specifically, I have the following scenario: every weekday at 18:00 cgwatcher increases the intensity to 17 for mining over the night. Every weekday at 8:00 the intensity will be reduced to 11 because I need the pc for my profession. Now...If cgwatcher restart the mining process during the day between 8:00 and 18:00 it will start with intensity of 17 although it is in the range of low activity. This is not good because the GPU fan revs up and in the office you put up with ridiculous questions. It would be nice if the program checks after the start of cgminer immediately whether a rule with non-default-settings from the cgminer.conf is active and the parameter is changed immediately by itself so the rule parameter for this specific time are valid.

Hi.

Firstly thank you so much for your wonderful App, however i too am having the startup problems in Win 8.1 like a few other users.  I had to rebuild my rig so thought I would try Win 8 but the only good thing I can see is it boots quickly!!  I'm using the newest version, tried as admin, not admin, the registry start up & standing on my head while turning my pc on Shocked Cry

I'm going to reinstall Win 7 but thought I should report as seems to be a common issue with Win 8.

Thank you milone, cgwatcher isnt installed in one of those folders. Dunno what happend, but i downloaded the program again and now its working. Seems a config file was messed up.

Another problem i am having:
Sometimes windows detects only 3 of my 4 R9 280X. And sometimes, if 4 devices have been detected, one of them crashes after few hours of mining (its always the same card and in both cases i dont gain the expected hashrate). Then cgwatcher restarts cgminer and the crashed device runs with half hashrate (dunno why), so my total hashrate is about 2300kh/s. I set up treshhold to 2500 or below to force a restart of cgminer.

To solve the problem with this crashed device i have to restart the computer coz restarting cgminer doesnt solve this. How do i setup cgwatcher to restart the computer when hashrate drops below 2500kh/s? "Restart computer when sick or dead devices are detected" doesnt help.

CGWatcher & CGRemote
Slipknot79: Where is your CGWatcher folder? You should not put the CGWatcher folder in any of the following:

C:\Program Files
C:\Program Files (x86)
C:\ProgramData
C:\Windows
C:\Users\\Desktop

I would suggest creating a folder like C:\Miners and putting the CGWatcher folder and miner folder inside of it. Otherwise you may need to run CGWatcher as Administrator for it to have permission to write to files in its own folder.

cgwatcher doesnt start on my PC. The window opens, then it freezes for few seconds and then it shuts down. What could this be? Theres no "send error report" shit.

I learned something new today.  heh..  I didn't realize Windows had so much logging going on behind the scenes by default.  After digging through the event viewer the problem has absolutely nothing to do with cgwatcher.  It just happened to restart 2-3 times close together right after I installed cgwatcher.  According to event viewer, both rigs have been going down once every 1-3 days and I just never noticed.  I also saw a lot of reset errors on both machines having to do with the sata controllers.  I just updated all of the motherboard drivers and downloaded the latest chipset drivers for both systems.  I also downloaded the Windows debugging SDK to try and narrow down exactly what the fault is.  I decided to take a break from that for now though.  Hopefully the driver updates will fix me up.

Thanks for the great software!!

Have you ran just cgminer alone for a day to see if it also restarts? I can't imagine anything CGWatcher does that would cause the computer to restart. It reads device information from OpenCL, ADL, and NVAPI... and talks to cgminer. It writes to files in its own folder, or possibly another folder if saving a config file. But it doesn't even attempt to change anything on its own. And the only time it asks the miner to change something is if the user tells it to, or if temps get too hot and overheat protection is enabled (in which case it just adjusts intensity). It is possible that it is using something in the .NET framework that is causing this. Have you tried reinstalling .NET Framework 4.0 or newer?

I just installed cgwatcher on a second Windows 8.1 machine.  Auto startup works fine on this one...no problems there, but it did the same thing as the first machine.  After 40 minutes the computer restarts for no apparent reason.  I'm really hating Windows 8 more and more.  I checked the log and here is what it shows:

Code:
[1/5/2014 10:19:47 AM]   [d] Preparing to autostart miner using (Miner=C:\cgminer\cgminer.exe; Config=C:\cgminer\mine.conf; Arguments=--config C:\cgminer\mine.conf)

[1/5/2014 11:00:15 AM]   [d] Miner.IsProcessAlive(3296) returns False. [First try, test process is nothing.  ex: Process with an Id of 3296 is not running.] (CPID3296/CMPID=3296/CBPID=0)

It ran for 40 minutes and then just rebooted at 11:00 AM.  I don't have any of the settings in cgwatcher set to reboot the computer.  I made sure to have all the settings set to kill the process instead of using the quit command.  From the log it doesn't look like cgwatcher is issuing any commands at the time the computer reboots.  I've got updates turned off and both computers never restart unless cgwatcher is running.  Did I mention I hate Windows 8?  lol  It almost has to be something stupid with Windows 8 causing the reboot.  Does Windows 8 log anything by default?  I'll do a google search and see what I can figure out.

**Edit**
I found an event log viewer and here is what it says happened:

Down the rabbit hole I go...Microsoft is saying it is a power issue.  Trying to figure out how to decode their crazy hex error codes now.  It seems strange that it only happens with cgwatcher running though.  The system that just crashed is running two Radeon 290's with a 900watt power supply.

Thanks!

Check cgwatcher.log in your CGWatcher folder. You should be able to see where the computer was restarted (look for "CGWatcher started" entries). Look to see if CGWatcher was doing anything right before the restart (e.g. restarting the miner). If you're using the new AMD R9 series cards, make sure the in CGWatcher the "kill miner process instead of sending 'quit' through restarts" and "always kill miner instead of sending 'quit' settings" are enabled. It looks like the drivers for these cards still have some issues to be worked out, and when cgminer shuts down (when sent "quit" command), it tries to restore clock speeds, fan speeds, and voltages, which seems to usually cause results in a crash.

I've checked documentation to see if Windows 8 handles startup items differently than Windows 7 and did not see any changes. I have no idea why it is not working. Have you tried putting another program in startup (e.g. Calc.exe)?

I have it booting straight to the desktop.  I'm not sure why it won't run.  It is running as administrator.  I've tried adding it through the options to the registry and startup with current user and all users.  I've also manually placed a short cut for it in the startup folder, which works fine for a batch file I made for cgminer, but cgwatcher always gets ignored.  I may try putting a batch file in there that starts cgwatcher. heh..

As for the computer turning off I am at a total loss.  The system has literally not been powered down for two weeks, but if I manually start cgwatcher it goes down randomly and doesn't come back on.  I may have to just sit there and watch what happens when it is going down to get a better idea of what's going on.  There's no doubt in my mind it is some kind of Windows 8 problem.  Every time I look at the thing Windows 8 screws up again.  lol

Do you have Windows set to start on the desktop? Or does it go to the Start screen on startup? Maybe booting to desktop is required?

As far as the computer shutting down, I don't believe this is due to CGWatcher. CGWatcher interacts with the miner mostly, not the system. When clock speeds or voltages are set or adjusted, the miner is actually doing it. CGWatcher never changes clock speeds, fan speeds, or voltages itself. It just passes these requests to the miner. The only interaction CGWatcher has with the system is creating startup entry (if enabled) and reading OpenCL, ADL and NVAPI information about any GPUs/OpenCL devices present... but it doesn't actually change anything.

I think I might be having a Windows 8.1 problem and just wanted to ask if anyone else has run in to this.  I've been using cgwatcher for months with Windows 7 and it has worked wonderfully.  I recently put together another rig using Windows 8.1 and can't seem to get cgwatcher working.  It's been mentioned earlier in this thread that the autostart on boot has been fixed, but I've tried all of the different combination of available options and nothing seems to work for me.  I've even tried manually placing a shortcut to cgwatcher in my startup folder and it does not start.  If I place a bat file to autostart my miner it works just fine in the startup folder, but cgwatcher never runs.

The second problem I have is that when I manually launch cgwatcher it will run for a while and then the computer shuts down completely even with default settings.  I haven't told it to shutdown or restart the computer.  One possible explanation is that I'm running Radeon 290's that crash if the quit command gets used, but I changed the settings in cgwatcher to kill the process instead of quitting.

I have smartscreen disabled, cgwatcher running as administrator, and added both the folder and cgwatcher exe file as exceptions in Windows Defender.  I'm not sure what else to try.

I can say one thing though...I've come to really despise Windows 8.  It has been the most frustrating operating system I have ever come across.  Windows 7 has run flawless for me and I am dumbfounded how they could turn out something like Windows 8 as a follow up.  I want to use my computer, not log in to a terminal over the "cloud".

Thanks!

Do you have the monitor set to restart the miner at a set interval? Or a scheduled action? There is not enough of the log here to see what is going on. After this occurs, go to the Tests tab and click the 'Create Debug Report' button. Email this to me (my email is in the readme). This should help show what is happening if this is unexpected behavior.

On a related note, I've just finished adding in-app bug reporting to CGRemote, so it should probably be in the next CGWatcher update also to make reporting issues easier.

Great App for keeping CGminer organized when mining multiple coins. Really good job.

Thanks... always nice to see a post reply that isn't some sort of problem. Wink

CGWatcher & CGRemote
I recommend using the latest version because it may have fixes and improvements over older versions. But I leave links to older versions on the download page in case a new version introduces a problem, or some people prefer not to change things unless they need to.

Where is your CGWatcher folder located? If you put the CGWatcher folder inside any of the following folders, it may cause permission issues with Windows and you might have to run CGWatcher as Administrator for it to work properly:

C:\Program Files
C:\Program Files (x86)
C:\ProgramData
C:\Windows
C:\Users\\Desktop

If that isn't the problem, in the latest version go to the Settings tab, then click the Storage sub-tab. Make sure CGWatcher is able to write to both of these files (that they are not inside any of the folders listed above).

And as a last resort, try running the latest version as Administrator, which should clarify whether this is a permissions issue or not.
