I don't think I have seen you in this thread before. Therefore this will count as your first day.

Day 4

Progress: 13.38% sync

Out with the old, in with the new...just released having the right hardware means everything when running a node and unfortunately, I thought I would get away with limited RAM and using a mechanical drive which slowed down this whole process, and after going through the thread I cracked it thanks to the right information and now I have jumped onto an SSD, better ram and wouldn't be happier with the results  Cool

And the pruning feature on Bitcoin core is gold for those of us with limited space Smiley

Progress: 4.44% sync

Just a side note, if it's not much of a hassle it could be a good idea to encourage new entrants to include  PC specs so that others know that their systems can handle the running of the node based on what others are running...

@kuriboh your progress reports will not be accepted without a screenshot or getblockchaininfo output. Please fix your report and the fixed report you submit will be considered your day 3 report.
No problem; I will give you a screenshot next time.  I left with the screenshot, but it wasn't given because I was far from the laptop.  I'll post a screenshot later, no problem.

Eloncoin.org - Mars, here we come!
That was exactly what I thought.
Let's find out Smiley I've started a new Bitcoin Core sync, pruned to 200 GB. I'll let it run until let's say 2010. Then I'll turn off pruning.

Update: after disabling pruning and restarting Bitcoin Core, it continued the sync where it was. So disabling pruning should work, as long as you still have all blocks. Maybe you can check if you have blk00000.dat in your blocks directory.

Damn. It already pruned then. I just checked and the first block is blk00458.dat. But I don’t understand how that is possible because for sure I know that I kept on adjusting it even before it got closed to the pruning I set. This is definitely why it says it’ll cost me redownloading it.

I wanted to change it but just saw the message that deactivating pruning I will have to download the whole blockchain again.
That is the case if the blockchain actually was pruned. Assuming you still have all the blocks, that shouldn't be necessary. I've never tested disabling pruning before it's pruning though.

That was exactly what I thought. As long as I have all the blocks, I should be able to take it out. Remember I mentioned that I had been adjusting the pruning settings the whole time. Or is it possible that the pruning starts even before the storage is up to the amount you had set?

I doubt it has pruned at all because at first I set it to 20GB, then 400GB, and currently 500GB.
Why? You'll have all the drawbacks of pruning (like not being able to rescan or import), without much of the benefits (half a TB less disk consumption).

I wanted to change it but just saw the message that deactivating pruning I will have to download the whole blockchain again.

DAY 13
Barely any progress due to internet challenges and the download seems slower, but I'd see how far I can get today.

I have been trying to think of ways to make sure that all the people who ran the node for 14 days will still run it from now on. I don't know how, except for sending some merit if they show you a screenshot every week. But of course this is just a suggestion.
I can think of many reasons to run Bitcoin Core, but weekly Merit isn't one of them.

Sure... It's a hard exercise but I guess if people have taken the challenge and have ran Core for 14 days, that they will not stop it now just because the merit has been sent.

DAY 3: BITCOIN CORE DOWNLOAD = 6.7%

Welcome onboard man. but It would be better if you can past your "GetblockchainInfo" code here also. Or a Screenshot.
You can easily get the code from Console in "windows" drop down menue.
