Thats a really great initiative, hopefully such things would keep growing in the world which can be a great help to bitcoin technology to spread in all the countries of the world and to be adopted by bigger resources in coming time.
I am agree that would be great option for people all over the world. I am also waiting that someone who already took a part in this write us here more details. Doubt that in my country something like that will appear so soon, but in the good case of the programm, our education system will take it also.
It would be great i it ctually happened but seeing as no one confirmednit I think the news was just to hype the bitcoin market. It's already weeks since the article was published. It will be nice if bitcoin does gives opportunity for students to continue school.

Just today I read an article on bitcoin.com's news page that BEN's paying people Bitcoins to students who post Blockchain/bitcoin related content (About 4BTC is available in their reserves for this) and another 2.5 BTC to those who post non-course related content like videos/audio etc. This is good news for those who have time to invest in sharing Bitcoin related journals/articles and their own written documents that are valuable for others.

This is how you create interest in students minds, they will inform more, they will try to cash out, others will search what can they do more with bitcoins, and where all that is coming from. Very good move if you ask me, he spend 10 000 dollars on commercial, now just to open bar across the street where will he accept bitcoins and people will go there and spend their coins and much more.

If it's real then is a great idea to promote Bitcoin. I'm sure many students have already heard of Bitcoins and for those who aren't it is unique opportunity to try it out and see how it is functioning.

wasn't there an mit airdrop? never heard much about that ever again. I don't think handing stuff out at random ever really works. not sure how they're operating this, but it's way better to get people to register an interest and then hand it over.

Yes, there was an MIT airdrop of $100 worth of bitcoins to each student.
If an (wealthy) alumnus of that institute has an interest in bitcoin and feels that an air-drop to his college would increase adoption, then nothing like it.
100$ for each student just for "educational purposes". Not sure if the person who funded that is crazy rich or it's secretly an investment of him. Even a 1$ can do the trick of teaching them how Bitcoin works. Most of us even started with nothing. We just got it from faucets. It's a waste of time, but it's something to start with when you don't have any money to put into Bitcoins.

Two students raised $0.5 Mn to fund this. No laughing matter.

Surely these students are treating education very important and this is going to be a good move for these students knows that bitcoin is going to be a good future currency. And this is a shame to their local government for these students are able to raise that amount. I hope I am going to read this type of good news daily.

Is it really true? Actually i have no idea that is true or not, but if it is happening than it is good for Chicago's students because in this way, everyone can get Education, and it help especially for poor peoples who don't afford education's expenses . Also bitcoin is used in a good way.

This will be a great way to make bitcoin more popular and to be recognized worldwide. The schools should also allow bitcoin as another method of paying tuition and stuffs.

If you can enrol in expensive universities like that, $150 would be your drinking money for a weekend. If you did this on a much larger

scale in one of the African countries, you would have reached 10 000 people and adoption would have been much easier. We have

already seen how M-Pesa has taken off in Africa... why not Bitcoin? ....The rich will get richer and the poor will suffer.. old story, new

vehicle.  Roll Eyes

yeah. I guess the thinking is that people at fancy universities are future thought leaders in some way.

however there are billions out there right now who could be making practical use of it right now. they also know billions of others people in the same boat. let's throw money at some real vision.

Well one thing is sure from those students someone will get interest into crypto and who knows a new team of crypto borns and create another great coin just for students or university, i do believe its a good step to share bitcoin with the future.

Would be a good experiment to tap into the educated class and get them used to using bitcoin on and around campus. If political views are any example of how things change and reach out from these campuses, then you can expect a bit of users that would stick with bitcoin as they moved into normal life.
Troubling that a area that has faced such high gun violence would dump such a large amount into learning how to use bitcoin though.

bitcoin.com is not that much reliable and I just googled no other news feed is covering this. Lets wait for any Chicago universities' student cum this forum member to confirm this.
If I was that student I would trade in those Bitcoin right away because for a student it is handier to just have money instead of Bitcoin.
The student are busy enough with school and they do not really need Bitcoin on top of that.

Great idea, but for what they will use the bitcoins they get for free?

Of course for educational purpose. To educate students what is bitcoin and how to transaction with it.

I`ve never heard of this Blockchain education network before.

Well if true, this will be very interesting news but somehow I don't believe it.
How many students are at Chicago university, several thousands?
So, how much Bitcoin they should receive for free?
Million dollars?
No way!
I think that much more realistic approach will be to invite them for public lecture about new virtual currencies and, if they became interested, show them where to buy or earn their first Bitcoins.
Some of this students surely already know about Bitcoin and using it regularly.
Bitcoin is not top secret any more Smiley
