The Blockchain Education Network (BEN) has announced a Bitcoin airdrop to four Chicago Universities today. This year BEN’s “Back-to-School Blockchain Initiative” has spread to more cities than ever before to show students the power of cryptocurrency.

Great idea, but for what they will use the bitcoins they get for free?

I`ve never heard of this Blockchain education network before.

Interesting initiative.

Awesome.  The more people know about Bitcoin, plus the currency appreciates. I hope this measure expand to other universities.

I read about this airdrop yesterday and it reminded me of the time when there was a similar airdrop at MIT. Lots of students were given $100 worth of Bitcoins to invest/start their own Bitcoin related ideas or to spend it on something. I'm sure a lot of people in Chicago would have educated themselves and benefited from BEN's airdrop.

That's pretty cool, even if they all immediately sell their Bitcoins for fiat, it would've at least help generate some buzz about crypto. Not sure if this news is legit though, saw a post on Reddit from a guy who claims he got 1 whole Bitcoin from the drop, that's a pretty big amount to receive for free. 0.1 BTC would've been more than enough I think.

$150 per person. In any currency, that is nice for students.
Although that is not from the reliable site, i will giving my appreciate. but i don't believe if that is a real things, because $500000 it's a much amount and that's will not effective caused by the student is just wanna for joining the educational caused by money.
it could be possible, however that's lot of money if they're giving that amount only for one person, it will be effective if they're just giving 15 dollars or maybe 5 dollars for a student, anyway this actually good step to introducing bitcoin to the mass, especially for the student, since they more interested on some new technology.

I am not sure is this confirmed news or not but let’s be optimistic and hope for the best. It’s really great that they are spreading awareness through constructive purpose which is hitting two birds in single stones, one is bitcoin awareness and second one is concrete investment. Since they are building awareness in students which would definitely help to bring fresh users in the community, we would also see educated users in bitcoin user base.

bitcoin.com is not that much reliable and I just googled no other news feed is covering this. Lets wait for any Chicago universities' student cum this forum member to confirm this.

I think you watch to much porn, it's not cum but come as a verb to come here in the forum as I guess that's what you mean by your last sentence of the quoted post : ). It's really good to stimulate students to use bitcoins cause maybe the next genius of cryptography is right there at any of these universities.

By the way too much porn is bad for your health Smiley .
Haha you got it, ive noticed it too on using cum  in his sentence. Maybe you are right  he's watching porn too much for sure. by the way back to the topic, these  kind of  air drops  would be a good advertisement  on bitcoin existence and  as you said it would stimulate students  on their knowledge about bitcoin and would somehow create future  geniuses. Some may say these news is just a hype  but it doesnt matter  if its true or not.

This is a great way to introduce students to bitcoin. It can also promote bitcoin and bring in people that have new ideas and uses for bitcoin and other altcoins.

Last year there was a similar thing where students from MIT got free bitcoins. I doubt anything came out of it. From what I heard most of the coins just got sold to the highest bidders or got traded for normal things.

i can not confirm this by person, but also heard about it. as far as i know most just wanted the money and exchanged it to fiat or bought something. but i guess this was to expect.
That's just the basic mind of everyone about bitcoin, but just waiting more about that and what the result...?seems like just giving an educational for forced for educating their mind caused by money and not from their real intention is grow from their heart.

Agree that is really a big amount of money just to used it for educational purpose. Then what they do to that big amount of bitcoin? I cant imagine how they spend store used or experiment that big amount of bitcion Huh

Agree $500000 is too much for the student just to used it into a educational purposes. 5 bitcoin is enough for them to used it in educational purposes. That amount of bitcoin is they can understand how the bitcoin works, how the process been done and how efficient it is. I think it is just a joke or not reliable news.

wasn't there an mit airdrop? never heard much about that ever again. I don't think handing stuff out at random ever really works. not sure how they're operating this, but it's way better to get people to register an interest and then hand it over.

Bitcoin.com is more reliable than any other fake news site

No reputable news outlet would fake such news. So I guess the news is legit and this news is very very good. It's gives young people to learn about bitcoin and be motivated to use those bitcoin.
150 dollars is a lot for a student and this initiative should be followed up.

This university has a pretty class A students in the technology area. I was there in Feb 2015 by invitation of a friend and I was really out of m mind. It was the fouth american iniversity I visited and every time I'm astunished with the quality of these universities. Some others around the world are decades ago from them. First time I saw students with feeling for Bitcoins was in Seoul in 2013, and in USA in the Stanford University... but USA has so many great universities I can't worte here, it's a huge list and in comparison with the rest of the world they are the best.. but few other places are great too, like Eastern European universities, Australia and so on... the campus always will be a good cradle for this kinda ideas. I hope students in poor countries catch the same feeling and the same way of associate groups, ideas and technology.

Your country may be your worst enemy
How much is tuition at Chicago university?
If it costs $10,000 to enroll, it isn't a good deal to get $150 worth of BTC as a bonus. Is it OK if you spend them on illegal substances like many students would be tempted to do?
