Lol, that Chinese Poker is what we call "Pusoy" here in the Philippines. I learn that game like 30++ years ago, hahahaha, maybe mid 80's. And it was still as famous as today in the country as far as I know.

People here play that game either as past time or with big money involved, I'm glad that you enjoy and wanted to learn that game, but I guess for Filipino gamblers they are really very familiar with this game.  Grin. Most experts can really arrange which way (and as strong) as they wanted it to be, even by just looking at the cards at the beginning  Grin

^  NLHE gets really robotic and repetitive if you've played it long enough.  PLO is where it's really at if you're into big bet poker.

Chinese poker is just plain fun without the stress of NLHE.  Smiley

At first reading the title "Chinese Poker" I thought that I have never played this game before, but after watching the video then I realized that it is the game that I used to play last year in local fiat gambling sites. We call it as "Capsa Susun Poker", but still it is not a popular game in my country. Most card game lovers in my country prefers to play Texas Holdem poker because it is more challenging imo.
What I dont like with Chinese Poker is because I need to think too much in order to split the 13 cards into 3 good hands combination. Sometime it makes me stressed out to decide which combination should I use for the Top, Middle and Last hands.
I also prefer playing texas hold em poker which is challenging as you stated especially if you play live and you can also make a move to make other weak hands and mind to hold for you to win. I miss those days where I play texas hold em poker which is fun and east to understand and how the game works.

^  Yup.  Classic Chinese Poker is easier, but still quite challenging if you're used to two card poker like NLHE.  But sooo much fun.  I've never had so much fun playing cards since I got into NLHE years ago.

Open Face (all variants) is veeerryyy frustrating.  I have no idea what I'm doing most of the time.  Lmao.

^  By 'card counters', you mean poker players who compute equity and and EV on the fly during a hand?
Yep, in the open face method, it will become handy if one can predict what card will appear next for both for him and the opponents. Not just about creating the best combination of cards like in the closed/classic one.

Actually many card games were called Chinese Poker or derived from Poker. My favorite one is big two since it is really popular in SEA

Sometimes people think this is the real Chinese Poker Grin

And the classic one kinda needs some getting used to for me.  I get overwhelmed by the 13 cards and having to make three hands out of them with limited time.  Lol.

For the closed one, it's not that difficult to play, but I would not play it in real life except I have one math genius to score the results (I guess it's how this game got its name, i.e., "Chinese Poker"). LoL
But for the "open face" one it's more complicated, and maybe card counters would prevail.

Interesting game!

Hey guys, I just started playing Chinese poker, both classic and open face at SWC Poker.  And wow...  I have never felt so motivated to learn a new game and play cards for hours at a time again.

Anyway, coming from playing a LOT of NLHE and a bit of PLO, I'd like to find some like minded people like me to discuss Chinese poker (classic and open face), learn more about the game, share strategies, etc, etc...

Edit:  Here's a vid about classic Chinese poker.

I like to learn and play well in all of them.  Smiley
