The love of fiat is the root of all good
I'd join a GB for the SP10 at a good price - like someone said, an SP10 in hand is worth more than some(any)thing in Sept...

OP should make this an auction to see what the market is willing to pay.  Obviously not a whole lot of interest at $2800.

Originally I was the one asking for an additional miner, but I was really hoping for something a bit sooner... September is a long way from now...

If we order and pay now, and the value of BTC goes back up to $1000, we lose in terms of fiat by paying now, or if the price of BTC goes back down to $350 (or lower), it'll be that much harder to break even, if that is at all possible.

Do you plan to do anymore GB's for SP10 with a lower price? Maybe at least $2700 WITH shipping? I know the price of BTC have gone up a bit but that's no excuse to, essentially, throw money away.

Well if BTC goes back up to $1000 good luck finding in stock miners sales will explode and if BTC goes back down to $350 then you will still have the most power efficient miners. Win win.

As for the SP10 GB I don't know. I'm not sure many will join or maybe I should put a 100 units minimum.

What is a group buy? I've never done one and always thought everyone would chip in the same amount of money for how ever many rigs you are buying then host them somewhere and then split the rewards.  Is that close?

You are right or it can be seen as a wholesale for a larger number of units shipped to customers.

so this GB will end 5th june until now only 1 confirmed order.
i am interested too, now keep eye on this thread.

I think if these came out at the same time as the SP30's then this group buy would be full already.

Or if they were substantially cheaper for coming out 1 month after the August SP30 then it would be a goer.

e.g. the September SP30 is $5095, ergo the SP15 should be circa $2500 not $2800

He's talking about market risk. The company itself is probably the most solid in the industry.

Mining companies would have you believe that the only reasons they build and sell equipment rather than build and mine equipment are altruistic: For the good of the network, bitcoin in general, etc. Reality is that, just like in every industry, they are doing it for a managed risk/profit margin to people who have slightly different needs or desires. By doing presales, they guarantee their revenue even if the market becomes saturated with equipment, which it just might.

Any rate, we're way off topic now and in the OP you wanted this thread to stay on topic and ignore profitability debates. I'm really interested in getting one of these myself, but I need to make sure I have the coin first. Unfortunately the interest in this isn't what I expected it would be when I first saw this. I'm hoping we can make the 400 to even make this a possibility.

Don't you think that this is good for further and better development?

I do, and it wasn't my intention to sound like what they are doing is bad or wrong. Strictly speaking they aren't transferring their risk onto the customer. They are simply reducing their risk in a way that makes the customer take on a different set of risks. I'm a believer in benevolent capitalism in that if all the players have good ethics then it brings everyone higher. It's rarely the case anymore that everyone acts with the best intentions, unfortunately, but I have no reason to think that this particular company is evil. This is a very smart marketing decision on their part, and I'm personally on the line myself with the decision to be a customer. This is most definitely going to be the best home based piece of equipment that can be bought come September - even better if they also find a way to reduce the noise levels. I'm just wondering what retail costs for this is going to be in September. On one hand the market gets flooded with equipment and prices drop through the floor in order for companies to compete. On the other hand BTC continues to rise vs. fiat and difficulty doesn't rise like I expect it to. IE: BA goes belly up or disappears, BFL continues the two week shipping timeframe into 2015, other competitors can't even come close to competing on power costs, etc. In that case I'll be glad to replace my antminers with this and sell the antminers to other people looking to heat their homes for the winter.

In order to make the decision easier, I wish this pre-order wasn't so far out, or that the price was a little more aggressively discounted.

Whilst I appreciate your efforts and I've been in both the previous group buys....

I'd much rather have a deal on the SP10's that are in stock, the price hasn't moved for a while and difficulty has gone up, as much as I love mine I can't pull the trigger on any more at current price.

Agreed. A SP10 in the hand is worth two SP15s in the bush.  Smiley

They are shipping from stock and exchange rate is up.

They are not offloading the risk onto buyers because there is not risk. They are trying to secure a supply chain and the advantages are numerous for doing that.

Lol that is a bit disingenuous Road , saying there is no risk.  And this is coming from someone who ordered sp30s for Aug deilvery.  There is a ton of risk the main one being that the price of BTC falls off a cliff along with high diff which makes these machines nothing but expensive paperweights.

I could name more but you get my drift.  Yes its a lesser Risk than Pr-ordering from BA or KNC but there is ALWAYS a risk to the per-orderer.

Of course I was talking about the non-delivery/being late risk. The difficulty and the exchange rate isn't in SP-Tech's hands.

thanks for the lightning quick response

just some clarification if you dont mind

so if by june 5 you collect 400 reservations i would get request/instructions/whatever for the full payment

is that immediately, what is the deadline for the actual payment?

what if you collect 400 reservations but some people dont pay, is the group buy still valid?

what if you collect 400 reservations but they decide to not make the sp15, i guess thats a possibility too?

If by 5 June there are at least 400 reservations you would be required to pay immediately. I think that a decent 2-3 days are allowed extra for any type of payment that you wish to use.

If there are 400 reservations but some people won't pay there will be a decision right then depending on various factors. Can't say anything for sure, but I can say that I will try to make it decent.(like I won't cancel the GB for missing 3-4 units or stuff like that)

If there are 400 units paid there will be a SP15 for sure. Maybe it will be available for some future batches, but if the requirement won't be met then there is a good possibility that the "Home Edition" miners era is dead.

The product itself looks very good. It's the three month pre-order at only half the cost of currently available hardware that is not so good, but to each their own. If the price of BTC is much higher in September than it is now, this could still work out OK for buyers in fiat terms.

I can't really blame spondoolies-tech for trying to presell as much hardware as they possibly can because it offloads their risk onto buyers.
