Brief outage on the getwork based server.  Should be back up by the time anybody reads this message.  For those still on it:  Upgrade to Stratum already!

Where is the problem? Thanks.
Once a block is found during the ongoing shift, it is divided into 10 equal parts and distributed among currently open shifts.

Yes, but shares count is wrong. Not reward per share in shifts.

your shares per shift are consistent. shift times will vary because shifts are based on 6,000,000,000 shares completed.shares completed for me on any one worker will vary from 3-20 seconds on my machine. plus, payouts are on valid shares only, so there will be variance.

I think the problem is that you don't understand how PPLNS payout system works  Wink

BTC payments are only credited when a block is found and you have some shares inside the last 10 shifts, in this case no blocks are yet found for duration of the ongoing shift and during the last shift (3684) duration. Once a block is found during the ongoing shift, it is divided into 10 equal parts and distributed among currently open shifts.

Hi, I make ~7 shares per min.
For ~30 min shift, this is ~200-220 shares per shift, but

how are we doing mining back your losses?

5.6 BTC has been mined by users on btcguild_donate  .  3.62 BTC has been donated to 1GuiLdvH3YjJyEExyTmcd7X2nwX7pZvV7a .  So 9.2 BTC has been donated (either directly or as hash power) since it was made available.  We had 3 avalons (I think) mining on btcguild_donate yesterday for a few hours, which really helped out on the recovery.  As of right now the btcguild_donate worker is at ~1.3 GH/s.  Every bit is greatly appreciated.

Hey Eleuthria;
I've only been mining about 4 months, but I have only been with BTCGuild. (except the 1/2 day it took to compare this pool to some others--no comparison IMHO). I have put one of my measly workers on to the donate pool. It isn't much, and you desrve a whole lot more (from the top 25ers out there!)
You run a great pool!

I hope ASICMINER votes to donate a day. They have a lot of investment and a short time to reap the rewards, but it would not take them long to make a HUGE difference in the shortfall.

Best of luck, and keep up the great work!

Just saw your stories on about getting scammed, when I can get some BTC I will happily send my tiny little 1gh/s to help out Smiley

Got to say I recently moved to this pool from slushs and it has a lovely UI and it tells me how good my machine is doing so I don't even need to go close to it for a few days  Grin

There was a brief (< 60 second) outage on some of the Stratum servers.  I am sorry this was not announced in advance.  I was working on some tweaks to speed up the 0.7 bitcoind, and unfortunately it seems like it killed the process.  Everything is back up and running now.

Some idle warnings may have gone out that should not have been sent.  Working on fixing this script, which is by far one of the most demanding in terms of DB queries.

UPDATE:  Script now executes in about 20 seconds (including the time to forward emails), and doesn't choke the database up as badly while it's executing either.  Definitely some improvements still to be made, this script was written almost 2 years ago, well before I had as much experience in working with a DB schema designed for such a high work load.

Sent a Coin figured it was better then my measly 1.7 G/hash mining for 10 days..... I agree BTCguild has the hardest working Op and is the best bitcoin mining pool IMO.  Keep your head up Eleuthria.  I got bitten for about 60 btc from a scammer on one of those bitcoin auction sites.. it ain't fun... can't imagine over 1000 BTC.  Figured you would at least get 1/2 back, people just suck... Those that don't give back karma will get them in the end.

Recovering from a cold.  I lease out my spare bedroom and the friend that rents it was sick over the weekend.  The late nights & stress from Saturday -> Monday definitely didn't help my immune system fight it off.

There's a few plans in store for the pool for the rest of March:

1) Updating backend scripts to be less stressful on the database, specifically PPLNS shift closing, automatic payouts, and idle warnings.

2) Re-updating to a 0.8 branch with limits set to make it 0.7 compatible.  Stales are much more noticeable on 0.7 compared to 0.8 due to how much slower the bitcoind backend is at generating work after a new block is announced/verified.  Unfortunately, I'm not comfortable updating until I know 0.8 has had the BDB limits emulated to prevent another fork in case somebody tries to force a bad block through again.

3) Aliases on rankings so you can have a name showup (doesn't have to be your username, for security).

4) Extra pool statistics related to average user speed (not counting extremely slow users).  Once average user speed reaches a certain point, I will likely update Stratum to default the difficulty to 4 or 8.  Variable difficulty will still eventually drop a user lower if required, but this will help users on ASICs who have not set their difficulty higher by default.

I'm mining with 3*5830 giving about 900 Mh/s ...

I have seen my account getting 50 BTC by this bug ... I just waited that my account came back to his normal state ...

sad to see that the users overpaid, don't want to give back ...

I put one of my cards on the donate user (sorry just 300 Mh/s)...

Hope this help

Hey Eleuthria

I am an ASICMINER shareholder. Might there be a way for us to donate some power collectively? I think even a few hours or a day would go a long way, right? It would require a shareholder vote but if we could do this it would help the pool out enormously and only cost each one of us a very small amount. It would also be good PR for Bitcoin as far as showing how the community works together.

Has anyone else returned the coins they were incorrectly credited with?

Unfortunately no.  Just the one user (CryptoCluster).  The only other user to respond at all was the one I posted earlier.

ASICMINER mines here and on ozcoin (possibly another pool by now as well).  ASICMINER only makes up about 25-30% of the pool, and they were not overpaid.  Only a small subset of miners on the mergedmining pool were credited too much.  Of those miners, only 16 were able to cash out before the hot wallet was empty.

Aha. Thanks for the clarification.

damn, that is really depressing, I put you at 1397.8 B down still

you just don't deserve that,

come on folks, we can do better than 1.3Gh

I agree with your sentiments.  But that is, sometimes, the cost of doing business.  And I really respect this pool for this stance.

Although I do hope more refund the mistaken payouts.
Sam

We are blessed with the hardest working, lowest drama pool op in bitcoin, an individual that busted their ass getting stratum rolled out before the asics and has proactively sought to refund fat finger transaction fees in the past.

Fucker runs the best pool in the business, makes one little mistake costs $66,000 and all we can free up to help is 4@6950.

really?

new paradigm indeed
