It's back up for me. Growing pains I suspect, maybe combined with the DDOS other exchanges were seeing, i.e. just a ton of traffic since interest in this sector exploded a couple weeks ago. Nothing to worry about IMO.

I think people are just doing unnecessary FUD, coinbase is so heavily regulated that a regular shutdown is not likely with them, they are located in the US meaning they can be prosecuted easily for most investors here. As well as the fact they keep most coins offline.
it's just a downtime IMO, 99.9% doesn't mean %100

It is convenient that coinbase goes down every time there is a drastic downward swing in the market.  I suspect they don't want people exchanging currency to bitcoin at the lower price (it always comes back up when after momentum builds back up and the price has increased).
I think it's always during that because people want to panic sell or buy bitcoins. Some people lose access to their bitcoins and this is why I always was telling Coinbase is exchange not wallet.

I would recommend switching to either Bitstamp or Kraken, never had any issues with them and most reviews are also way more positive than reviews of Coinbase.

I stopped using Coinbase after my account was blocked for a couple of days after making a deposit to a dice site from my coinbase account.

Kraken has been subject to similar problems recently, If we consider the reason given is legitime. Kraken is one of the exchange suspected of manipulation price. Coinbase doesn't allow transaction with illegal activities, gambling, ect If I am not wrong. You can surely find it in their User Agreement.

Sounds like another Cryptsy going on at the time.

doesn't look like it though!
the problem with these exchanges is that they only provide servers powerfuil enough for a certain number of users which they usually get.
when there is a fast rise or fast fall like this the traffic grows and obviously they can't handle things anymore.
there is also DDoS attacks.

and on top of that it is possible they have ran out of funds again because people also buy and withdraw at times like this at the bottom and the exchanges go dry. it is easier to say we are down than to say we cant cover withdrawals.

Are they affected by DDOS attacks mentioned here? Major bitcoin exchanges hit by cyberattacks as record rally makes them a target. I think this attack is also one of the cause the price is going down. People are in panic and want to get out. I do not think coinbase can be affected this much by that attack and maybe you are right in your other point, they run dry and preventing withdrawals.

Ive been using coinbase and I do subscribe on their SMS updates too which it does really give me alerts on whats happening on the site and they did have investigate the problem that's why they are down now.Even though they do experience this problem I'm sure they can easily resolve it that's why we should really not to panic and if you don't like coinbase then there are lots of wallet to choose from.

coinbase is known for having a long downtime during huge moves on bitcoin price, they are just useless if you want to sell off or buy during pump/dump. Just avoid them in future.

They have been having problems every since last week when people were complaining about their withdrawals taking an overly excessive amount of time then usual. Upto 96 hours if at all.
Sounds like another Cryptsy going on at the time.

Then the news of them being sued. Was the final straw that broke the camels back.
Now something about regulation asked for them? They are done man! Roll Eyes

They have shot themselves in the foot and might as well file for bankruptcy now just to recover from their losses.
Closing thei doors soon.
If you were smart enough you would of pull out all your funds since last week when there were 1000's of people complaining about them and their withdrawals not happening almost instantly (not being confirmed mind you) when they were working as they should of been.
Good luck to all those coinbase users.
God Speed to you now! Embarrassed

I was really lucky that I withdrew all my BTC to Electrum a day ago.  Lips sealed Hopefully nothing bad happens to CoinBase, its a site I trust and I like to use if not for the 'security' that having Bitcoins in a client is safer, otherwise I would use CoinBase.

Looks like it is just a loading issue, should not be a major problem, CoinBase is just gaining popularity after adding LTC and ETH, and I have faith in their team too.

What is going on today? Any other exchange affected?

Our team is investigating issues with Coinbase.com load times.

Well this is what likely a maintenance in their server or upgrading some stuff with their security or they are under attack? we can definitely never would know what is actually happening right now, because both website and mobile are in a major outage right now, and you can look at their status report for some operational services of Coinbase, https://status.coinbase.com/

I don't think it's a scheduled maintenance or upgrade. it has to do something with the falling of bitcoin price.
Maybe they are under attack, or maybe to many people are trying to cash out and they can't afford it.
I also wonder if it has something to do with the Singapore Bank since it's partial outage.
