So aside from Coinbase what do US based users use to convert to fiat?

It seems like Gemini is the next up-and-coming contender. I'm not sure whether they are competitive with Coinbase's volume yet, but of the newcomers I know in the space, more are using Gemini than anywhere else.

I tried to sign up with Gemini, but unfortunately, they only accept IDs that comply with REAL ID. My state doesn't comply yet (I assume they will start complying by 2018 due to new federal transportation regulations). I wish they told me that before rejecting my documents, because I gave them a lot of really sensitive info. I guess I either need to shell out for a passport (not really necessary for me) or wait until I can get a compliant state ID.

You need to use the same cell phone number on a new phone.

You wouldn't want any random number accessing your account.

You are absolutely correct.   I lost my phone and now I cannot access my account, and Coinbase could care less.  Looks like I'm going to lose my coins.   Leave this exchange before you lose your coins.

Simply download the coinbase app & authy app on your new phone with the same phone number.

Worked for me.

Room, I'm not sure I understand.   My new phone has a new number of course, but they would send the verification code to the old number that I can't access.

I've never used coinbase, but i saw many peoples had problems with them.
I hope they wont be like MtGox.

They won't.

They have the BitLicense.  They're insured.

They are definitely having scaling problems, however.  Serious growing pains.

The first time I tried to buy from them BTC was about $130.

They turned me down & I was pissed!

By the time I got verified (Not a "RISK" anymore, LOL) BTC was down to $111.00

I got my first whole BTC from Coinbase at $111.00.

Been buying and selling ever since.

I keep half of my 'Coin in the free Coinbase "Vault."

I recommend it for N00bs.

Very pleased Coinbase decided to credit customers with BCH.

It's a good idea for a lot of people to HOLD according to one of the 2 articles cited above.  Coinbase customers will have to hold their BCH for a few months. If Devs really want to pump it, we can wait.

Sounds like you're not telling the whole story. I haven't had any issues with coinbase and Dan is very quick to response when I contact him.

I've been trading on Coinbase about 4 years. I sent a Litecoin back in April as a test before sending the rest, and it's still pending on the Coinbase end after 4 months. After several support tickets, and trying to call I gave up on them entirely. It shows up with over 60 thousand confirmations, and they just completely ignore me. I'm not the only one that's had this happen in recent months. They have quickly turned into the worst exchange available. I'd heavily advise against trading with them. If you have an account with them, move it somewhere else, or offline.
I'm glad i moved away from Coinbase a few years ago, I was using them pretty consistency but I'm glad that I chose to move because it seems like ever since I left their service they just keep getting worse when it comes to account management and customer service. From locking customers' accounts due to "suspected" activity to taking weeks to verify deposits and the like, it's just absolutely insane how that company is being run. It amazes me more that they are still listed as a decent company in many facets of the community to be completely honest.

Yes, seems like coinbase service is getting worst. I had problem with one purchase and contact support. There was no response for almost one month. And one day I finally see coinbase refund my purchase, but still there is no response to notify me, they simply close the support ticket.

It seems as big as coinbase is, they are letting it enter their heads by not giving regards to customers complain until they are called out on a massive user based platform like Twitter and other means. This is definitely bad for business and I feel it boils back to not keep too much of your funds on exchange sites because with that you can switch quickly to another service provider rather than being stuck with them due to the amount of funds involved.

I setup and funded a Coinbase account a little while ago. Forgot about the account until a few months ago. Had a terrible time trying to get the 2FA working with Authy because Coinbase/Authy stopped supporting voice calls for 2FA. Eventually, Authy was able to address my issue... but only after I complained on Twitter Smiley

I agree with folks that say that you should manage your own BTC; however, it's still not something that is simple enough for most people to do easily.

I have only started using coinbase but am already having doubts about them. Pretty much everything I read about them are negative. Likes of people cannot withdraw and other troubles. What is a better exchange to use?

The truth is, you will hear such complaints about any exchange. They are usually resolved in time, but people who publicly lodged complaints often don't return to say that the issues were resolved. Coinbase is slow, but they have massive legal liabilities and are tightly regulated. They are unlikely to take your money and run like some other exchanges.

One exception here is Poloniex. They have continued to have lots of complaints about stuck withdrawals and deposits not being credited going back several months. The situation doesn't seem to be improving, so I would steer clear of Polo....

That is why everybody should really stop using these online wallets! It is not worth it. Back then, the only reason I use coinbase was because they don't change miner's fees for the transactions. But when they were already charging it, I gave up on them. It is not worth it to risk my money then they have a sucky service. I had a problem one time, that my deposits were not credited but it had already 200 confirmations. I had to send an email before it got credited. They blamed it on the system downtime.

LOL! I thought this was just us. The miss broke her phone in a non repairable way some time ago, she has essentially been unable to access or use her account since then. What compounds the epicness of the situation is the fact she's holding 30ish dollar ETH because of this. We can't even remember how many she purchased; she was switching some Coinbase USD to btc and brought a few with the extra money on the account. So every time ETH goes up, I get sad, then I remember we will access it one day.

Depends on where you live I'd say.

Kraken works good for me with direct transfer to bank account, but I think that is for EU only

I've been making use of Coinbase for a  long time, but stopped using it around July . I never had transaction issues with it, though I was only making bitcoin transaction, and never made/used a Litecoin or ETH on it. The login issues, I think that's due to their security system. For example; if you try to log into their mobile wallet, it says you should check your email and confirm it's you. So I think they're trying to protect their users. But I already stopped using Coinbase, I'm now sticking to Xapo and Blockchain.info.
