I think that the merit system does not work. People do not want to give away their merits for free. The system was introduced several months ago, but there are many members on the forum that write good quality posts but do not have merites. The idea of Merit system is good because it has to improve the quality of posts, but I think that it does not work as it should.

People are not ready to share their smerit to anybody in this great forum because everybody is hoarding merit for what purpose we do not know. Merit was meant to be reward for a good work done.
Most people doesn'r realise that they have it. This forum has been made as an "old style". There are little graphics, there should be more images, infographics and other visual stuff that can get more attention from newcomers. And converstion of good info to merits would be much higher.
Just have to focus on quality over quantity posts and it should come in due time, it's annoying when people rewards stupid posts with merit but what can you do
Nobody will tell you their merits and will not give it back, guys. The same real adult world keeps everything for their own and does not divide, it's a squeeze!

If you want get merits your posts must be better built. Because this post is very poorly made.
The combination of two languages evokes mixed feelings, next time try use only english, it will make you better perceived.
And you must remember, to get merits you have to work on it!
As far as I know, the forum administration prohibits simply exchanging merit, it can be given for the benefit that the user brings to the forum
Why give merit is how to strengthen its future competitor. No one will do that because it's illogical.
Even if I am willing to share merits to others, I could not do so, because I don't still have any merits. According to some, merits are given to those who are deserving, who habitually have conscructive and full of sense posts to threads. So come on let's think and make some of full of sense and constructive post that will please those who would be able to share their merits out there.
This merit system made horribly. Just to send some merit you cannot just like the post, you have to go to another page and do some manipulations.
Merit is not so easy to come by. You cannot get merit by begging and that is more reason i do not beg for merit. I believe that when the turn gets to me to have by merit by a good and constructive post, i will get it. If i do not get it, there is nothing i can do about it.

People are probably not giving out merits because they are not receiving any and therefore they feel they would just soon finish their sMerits and never get any new one any more. I am not wanting here to state who is deserving or not deserving merits, I'm just pointing to the fact that most middle-ranked people will start to give out their few sMerits only after that they will have started to get some. That's how human psychology works. And since most of the people write only bad posts which are likely to never receive any merit, I see some problems in the circulation of merits to get traction.
Half of the posts here don't deserve a merit at all. But why do you accumulate ur smerits? Do you think to exchange them for money?

It ensures you can go up when you hit member level. Once you are member level you will be needing merits from someone else.

Shouldnt be asking people to give you merits,if they really wanted to give you they will.The merit system has really FCKedup the ranking system in bitcointalk but look at the good side,a month a go this forum was flooded by shitposter and spammers who wants to rank up fast,today our forum has less spam and shitposters that is why i am very pleased with the merit system.
There's no problem giving out merits if the person receiving it really deserves it. I know that it's hard to rank up these days.
It's really hard, especially English isn't our native language.
My only point is, why we need to give sMerits to legendaries like Theymos? they already on top, merits and sMerits are for high quality posts and they're not intended to the posts you're agreeing with.
There are some higher ranks are only after on busting offenses and they earn sMerit. What's the point? Busting members who did offenses are not considered as high quality posts.
If that's the case I would rather hunting down some members who are abusing their sMerits and other offenses to earn merits.
