I was thinking that a new feature might be interesting for the forum. Is it possible to implement zapping (with lightning) on topics, comments and profiles' bio?
I met with this idea on stacker.news . I found it very useful. Let me know you thoughts.

Best regards,

OP to be sincere with you I don't know why or how that's going to help on this Forum, as long as that's not going to give an information on Bitcoin (as you know, this is Bitcointalk) I don't think it would work out well. And if you're given the opportunity to write to Theymos, do you think he would implement it on the Forum and even if he had the chance to, how long do you think it would take?
To me is best for things to be this way, you have no idea what's running through that guy's head concerning the Forum.

Mate, you're just a newbie. I suggest you take your time and learn by the ropes. There are so many reasons why the forum is the way you met it and as a newcomer, you're to go through the length and breathe of the forum to learn from the forum.

Don't write the OP off on anything, newbie or not. I think he has that potential of doing something great concerning the Forum, let's forget about the Zapping whatever. He might be a newbie by rank but upstairs he might have it all
And for the record, no one is a newbie these days on the forum, if you know what I mean.

Best regards,
That sounds useful but the forum will be heavily modified by adding that zapping feature because I never read of any forum that has a zapping feature if you are recommending any new features for Bitcointalk be sure you have seen it on other forums that are SMF-based not coming from scripts or themes because it will be ignored or there is no possible way to add to it.

Thank you for your suggestion, but the forum does not need it. The forum has been existing fine before you joined.

The forum is already interesting, all features are working fine in balance and there is no need for suggestions on extra features to be considered especially when the only reason for a feature requested is just to make the forum interesting, and you have made your request/suggestion based on what you consider interesting.

I don't think that's necessary. BitcoinTalk already fulfilled users expectations. Maybe we need some patches like PM always should have a subject or it won't go through. But the things you are asking aren't that useful. Think of some features which may benefit others. If the features you are hopping for were important then @theymos would have already implement it. Don't you think so? He has been running this forum for more then a decade. Obviously he knows better.

Snipped

If you're going to introduce something new, this is not the format of how it is expected of you to make a proposal for it, you have to know about what you're offering first and have a good understanding of it, create time to make more research on it and see if it could also fit in to the community your bringing in the features, people have also being contributing with their own suggestions and even if yours is not going to be considered, but at least make it presentable, no one will ever try give a serious recognition on something like this because you yourself doesn't understand how it could work.

When someone is requesting a new feature or something that's exist in the other forum,
I don't think that this feature already exists in the forum. We can add a wallet address in the forum profile's bio, but we cannot add a wallet address option in the posts, topics, or somewhere around the comment section area.

He literally said this feature exist in other forum. I think he only means why keep forcing the feature of other forum to different forum while the current version is already working well.

I agree on him but I also like any kind of improvement that will make better our forum experience. There’s nothing wrong to suggest improvements since @theymos implement some reasonable suggestion and applicable to the current version of the forum

Best regards,

This is truly a brilliant idea, especially since this idea emerged from your first post. I am amazed by your big ideas. Well... like many other suggestions, usually there will be lots of merit raining down on threads like this. Wait, it's definitely raining... Even though it's not the rainy season right now, so maybe what I said was wrong.

Satoshi is more valuable than merit, assuming it is implemented on a forum as great as bitcointalk then anyone wants to pursue it. One will have unlimited hopes of getting postal incentives as all members here may have satoshis, and that just encourages more spam and also basically everyone breaks this forum rule.
Quote from: theymos
Specifically, you are not allowed to give people any incentive to post substantial posts in your threads.

good point and his reason is he wants the multi tier system for signature campaigns to work as it does. (yes we all know it gets abused)

I still can not find any place like bitcoin talk with its unique way of earning money.

Best regards,

Signature earning along with free speech 🎤  are two of the forums strongest points.

Zapping is cool but not needed here.

The whole idea here is old school style.

Your topic reminded me of an idea I put forward to develop the forum in 2019, which was titled ---> Merit isn’t enough, tipping using LN

When some members create high-quality posts, merits are not enough, they should be supported by some tipping.
LN has made the tipping possible with zero-cost costs.
Some applications have started to adopt this method on Twitter [You Can Now Send Bitcoin Tips Over Lightning on Twitter] and I would love to see this support officially in this forum.

The response from @theymos was as follows:

The forum will never hold users’ money.

Right, I was just about to post that.

People are free to open LN channels and send tips if they so choose.

LN is probably unsuitable for tips since the recipient has to be online. That's why these LN tipbots all hold your money, which I'm not a fan of. If you're using LN through a trusted third party, then you're better off not using it at all.

The forum does not want to accept money from users, and it is not possible to manage tipping LN network service without the need for a third party.
The most you will get is the ability to add a QR to your account, which you can do by modifying your avatar.

...and lastly (CMIIW) —  users can ask for donations in their posts and signatures,
As I understand it, you can only request donations if it is going to the running of a community service like a telegram bot or image hosting website.

Simply asking for donations in a thread with no valid reason breaks rule number 7, No Begging.

No need! You are likely asking this feature to reward the OPs of good posts for their good content, now for that, Bitcointalk already have merits, signature campaigns which reward far more than any tipping system would, and lastly (CMIIW) —  users can ask for donations in their posts and signatures, I understand integration of tipping system would be more convinient but I don't see the need. Adding such feature will bring further complications to the forum itself as well.

The only reason I love this forum is because of the less complicated features we have. I do not accept any change suddenly and I am glad theymos and his team don't do any change that often. I want the forum to look exactly similar so that the old users can have the feeling of nostalgia everytime they open the home page of this forum. We do not need any features like these, doesn't change anything for me personally.

Move it to Meta board: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?board=24.0
At bottom, click Move topic, choose Meta board to move the thread.

I guess I’m not in the know because I have no idea what zapping is or why the forum would want it. If it’s sending tips, then this is a Bitcoin forum and I would think having a Bitcoin address is enough to do this. If it’s about patting someone on the back for making a good post, then that’s what merit exists for.
Lightning Network is offchain, not on chain and I think it is not priority of Bitcointalk forum.

Merit is for quality posts and if earned merit can be converted to forum internal currency, for tipping, then convert it to bitcoin, it's so interesting. I feel exciting with this idea but I know it can be exploited by merit farmers, fishers like in Wall Observers or local boards.

Truth is, I see this forum as a data bank, like a one stop shop where you can get your problems solved by hitting on the sesrch bar or by simply diving into the relevant board and create an interesting topic. I won't say much but to allow you to learn much more about the forum, starting from Beginners ans Help, Trading Discussion, etc.

I don't know if zapping with lightning is possible in the SMF forum it needs a lot of modification, people are already motivated to participate in healthy discussion, and merits are far more valuable than getting rewarded by sats besides good posters can participate in signature campaigns which is more rewarding.
That's an important consideration. Because every platform has its own ways of compensating the members, and the method of this forum is so unique and authentic, even though the merit system is not that old relative to this forum. I really think we don't really need this upgrade, and it definitely needs a lot of modification and work, and I don't think that they or any other administrator would do that. I hope this will be added using some patches.

Then Ninja and other good developers might come up with a patch that could be added. But even if this feature is added, who will send you or someone some small satoshi just because he or she liked your post?

People are not that cheap, but they just don't want to give away their funds, especially satoshies. I hope you are getting where I am.
