I even wanted to ask what this copper account means, because I don't know much about it. Can someone explain to me
It’s a pretty small amount of money and it’s worth it. If you are a newbie you are only allowed to post once every 360 seconds and copper allows you to post every 90 seconds.  Also it allows you to post images which you can’t do until you hit Jr. Member.  Copper just makes it a lot easier to be productive on the site.

Can someone explain to me

Read this thread: Newbies can now pay a small fee to enable images (or at least the opening post of it).

I know you're mostly joking, but I think the time has come to have a new rank after Legendary now. Legendary had become far too common. I think legendary should be set at 960 activity and the new rank should be 1920 in following with the doubling of activity for each rank. Maybe some sort of additional demi-rank or other such title or badge could be given to people who earn large amounts of merit. 1000, 2000, 4000 etc. I think people who contribute a lot of meritable posts should stand out from the rest or be rewarded in such fashion.
I wasn't joking, even where I said keep the memberships cheap.  Embarrassed

People suggested mythical rank, but it doesn't go along with the other ranks. Gold, Silver, Diamond, Platinum memberships sound great, but if only theymos......

I seriously find no perks in Legendary rank. At least custom title would help.  Undecided

Can we please have a rank after Legendary or some membership available only to Legendary Members for purchase. Its fucking boring, as there is no real perk. And keep the membership ranks at a lower price, people don't want to get broke. 10$ will make do.  Grin

I agree, I'd love to see something beyond Legendary. Though I don't it should be purchasable as that would undermine the entire merit system, as you could simply buy your way to the top. That being said, there should be something beyond Legendary, or something to recognise exemplary users. As right now there are some legendary members who are anything but respectable, or knowledge.

People shouldn't be able to purchase ranks, but I think there should be more donator titles like VIP/Donator which give you essentially the same benefits of higher ranks (bigger signatures and avatars etc amongst other perks), but those titles would be separate and under your rank like they are currently. I've suggested things like calling them 'Patron' and 'Supporter' before. You could even just have Donor/Subscriber.

I'm not sure what you'd call it after legendary though, only thing I can think of is master but that seems like a derank.

There should be something after legendary yes, maybe requite 1960 activity and 4000 metir (then the legendaries can spam in meta about how unfair the system is too Grin)!

People have suggested other names in the past somewhere. Legendary could be bumped up and a new rank takes its place instead.

The next rank after Legendary IMO would be Legacy!

On purchasing ranks, yea its probably not the best as indeed it would undermine the system
but being able to purchase other badges like the copper account but higher levels as it would
prove that person was a 'serious' and dedicated member of the forum.

There wouldnt have to benefits involved but there would maybe be indirect benefits to having
'a badge'. I wonder why peopke dont display they have a copper membership? If there was a
platinum account would people display that?

I bought a copper membership when I was a newbie.  The only benefit are to be able to post images and only have to wait 90 seconds between posts instead of 360 seconds.  If you are a newbie and want to be active right away, it’s worth the little bit of money it costs. Now that I’ve leveled up, I’m trying to figure out how to hide it.  That’s how I found this thread.
IIRC you can choose to hide the rank in the same page you bought it.
Thank you. I was looking everywhere but there. Smiley

Wow, I haven't been watching it, and I was surprised when I saw you say such a large number. In fact, there are currently 2470 copper members. I'm shocked that so many people have bought it. I thought that it was kind of boring -- I was expecting maybe one or two per week or something
In my opinion, it may be partially affected by amazing possitive effects of merit system and new rank requirements.
Those guys probably felt hard to rank up by collecting enough 10 merit points, instead of spending a couple of satoshi to buy Copper Member rank, which gives them almost same previledges as of Member rank.
Therefore, I guess the forum should adjust rules to buy and previledges of Copper Member rank a bit.
It doesn't make sense and in somewhat extents violates the original purposes of Merit system. Spammers can spend money to buy the rank, then start spamming, joining bounties and get paid by easily showing their shits around.

Is it just me or are there very few Copper Accounts in operation?

I know there are benefits but the concept doesnt seen to be advertised enough
and it seems to be a rarity to see one eventhough some bounty programs
are looking for Copper Account holders.

Does anyone know how many users have aquired one?

i have scraped the first 2 million accounts and there is 1441 Copper Members among them.
But since this is relatively new position, i believe there should be significant amount of these positions in 2mil+ users Ids.

You can only have a few benefits compared to normal accounts so what the use of counting how many copper members do we have in the forum, but it would be more productive if you count people normally helping everyone in this forum aside from those people who have enough spare time to give a red mark to everyone.

I mean more like when I'm on mobile data and want to access the forum.

I would get an unlimited contract but a good one costs a few hundred dollars here a month so it seems futile.
Disabling signatures is something I don't want to do as I quite like finding services related to cryptocurrency every now and again.

You can't have it both ways. Turn signatures/avatars off when you're browsing the forum via data if this is an issue, but not everyone surfs the forum on their mobiles and we shouldn't be bending over backwards to accommodate them. Also, I'm not sure what country you're in but unlimited data rolling one month contract deals over here costs as little as £25, but you don't need unlimited data to post on a message board.

Giffgaff is the cheapest at £29, however they move you down from 4G to 3G after 513MB afaik (I read the contract).
A good one is about £60 for unlimited everything,  some times you can get an O2 sim for £10/mo with just data (nothing else).

Also, does disabling signatures stop them from being displayed or downloaded?

You will only download things that are displayed. If you set it to disable signatures then they wont be shown, so won't be downloaded. Same goes for avatars. I'm sure browsers have some settings or extensions to block images and other such things from being needlessly downloaded to conserve even more data.

Going forward do people think membership will be split between paid and unpaid membership
And where the paid membership will only be able to participate in bounty programs?

Probably not. There are currently no plans to have any paid memberships, but I don't see the issue in having them alongside being able to rank up naturally. The benefits are win win. The forum takes in extra money and scumbag account farmers and hackers' profits are severely effected.

Images in signatures isn't a great idea since people then Chuck annoying flashy gifs into them and a bad computer loading 20 crappy gifs is likely to crash and also it makes the site quite a bit heavier so more bandwidth is needed to load the forum client-side.

I'd say there should be a rank at about $1000/$2000 @ 0.1-0.4BTC.

What decade is this? The 90s? If somebody's computer can't handle a few gifs then they should either get a new computer or disable sigs. Besides, this wouldn't be for everybody and ideally only come with the costly premium rank which few people would likely have. You could disallow gifs anyway and just have jpegs or whatever, but images can't really be much more flashy than the current signatures here which are designed to catch your eye and emulate an image as much as possible. They're just bigger avatars at the end of the day and I haven't really seen any issues with those so I don't think an image banner allowed in the sigs of the few that have coughed up for the premium donator rank would be such an issue.

Sounds cool but that way, the forum becomes a gold digging machine rather than a place for people to share experience & knowledge.

The forum is already a gold digging machine. We need to find ways to make that manageable before the only people left posting here are the gold diggers or signatures are disabled for everyone forever (and then those gold diggers who have ruined everything int first place will all leave in a mass exodus).

Going forward do people think membership will be split between paid and unpaid membership
And where the paid membership will only be able to participate in bounty programs?

It is already heading in that direction with the Merit system and with the Copper account
requirement for some bounties.

I would buy into a silver or gold account even though im on the verge of getting a copper one.
