Does anyone know how many users have aquired one?

We can't know how many have been purchased, but currently there are 2,201 profiles wearing the tag.

Edit:  I guess we do know how many have been purchased.  Smiley

In fact, there are currently 2470 copper members.

Images in signatures isn't a great idea since people then Chuck annoying flashy gifs into them and a bad computer loading 20 crappy gifs is likely to crash and also it makes the site quite a bit heavier so more bandwidth is needed to load the forum client-side.

I'd say there should be a rank at about $1000/$2000 @ 0.1-0.4BTC.

What decade is this? The 90s? If somebody's computer can't handle a few gifs then they should either get a new computer or disable sigs. Besides, this wouldn't be for everybody and ideally only come with the costly premium rank which few people would likely have. You could disallow gifs anyway and just have jpegs or whatever, but images can't really be much more flashy than the current signatures here which are designed to catch your eye and emulate an image as much as possible. They're just bigger avatars at the end of the day and I haven't really seen any issues with those so I don't think an image banner allowed in the sigs of the few that have coughed up for the premium donator rank would be such an issue.

Sounds cool but that way, the forum becomes a gold digging machine rather than a place for people to share experience & knowledge.

The forum is already a gold digging machine. We need to find ways to make that manageable before the only people left posting here are the gold diggers or signatures are disabled for everyone forever (and then those gold diggers who have ruined everything int first place will all leave in a mass exodus).

I've always thought something along the lines of:

Silver Member: Avatar and Full Member signature
Gold Member: Hero sized signature

You could also have some sort of expensive premium rank with other perks (perhaps Lamborghini Member  Cheesy). Users could get a custom title, and be able to put actual image banners in their signatures amongst other things (or you could just incorporate those into Gold Member's privileges). Price the three ranks at maybe $100, $250, and $500+ or something. Peg them to fiat or adjust the price automatically as to avoid what happened with the previous donator ranks.

Sounds cool but that way, the forum becomes a gold digging machine rather than a place for people to share experience & knowledge.

@thequin/hilariousetc I'd suggest hwro signature for silver and better quality/size avatar for gold.

The 50BTC VIP was still fairly unaffordable to start with by design AFAIK it was still a few $10000s.

The custom title is a good one to venture into or even increasing the size your personal message can be.

You'd get even more comments and thanks if there was a Silver and Gold rank with bigger signatures  Wink haha. Copper Rank is largely worthless other than for the images being displayed, but I think for every non-ICO account that buys them it's more about the apparent 'prestige' that comes along with ranks or titles or with anything else that makes them stand out from the rest (no matter how minuscule that is).

I'm sure the prestige thing is an element to it but I'd guess the Member level signature is a bigger driver. Some signature campaigns will accept them on Member level pay and for others, they just want to use links to their own projects. It's easier to buy than getting 10 Merit for a lot of people. Higher level memberships surely would sell like hotcakes.

I wasn't aware it came with a Member-sized signature. If campaigns are paying extra for Copper Rank then that's your answer right there as to why it's been so popular. The price it costs is probably a steal compared to the bonus the campaigns  are offering.

That gives a minimum of 1,020 accounts but it got to that level many months ago and I'd assume it is many times that by now.

Wow, I haven't been watching it, and I was surprised when I saw you say such a large number. In fact, there are currently 2470 copper members. I'm shocked that so many people have bought it. I thought that it was kind of boring -- I was expecting maybe one or two per week or something.

I wonder if the fluctuating BTC/USD price actually acts as a sort of marketing technique. Whenever the price falls, it's like the membership is on sale, and when it's rising people have a fear of missing out. (BTW, I get tons of comments from people expressing total wonder at how easy and magical-feeling the copper-member and unproxyban payments are, which I love.)

The automnousness of the system is definitely a bit satisfying. I assume for some newbies, it's one of their first Bitcoin transactions they'll make.

Does anyone have the data per rank or is that too hard to bring up?

The lack of new users getting copper membership is probably due to new people not knowing about it. There are probably a lot of newbies who either stick to their local boards or just don't come to meta.
Maybe a link could be added to the "rank" text like merit has one on their profile page that goes to the paid membership page?

@thequin/hilariousetc I'd suggest hwro signature for silver and better quality/size avatar for gold.

There's not many benefits to the rank to be honest so most people won't bother with it. It's mostly purchased by people running ICOs or those who want their images to show up instantly. Now, if we implemented new ranks such as Silver and Gold that came with such perks as bigger signature instantly I'm sure they'd sell like hot cakes/crack Cheesy.

theymos is probably the best person to answer this but the data could probably be extracted by some the people that keep unofficial data on the forum. Have a look around Meta for the various threads with Merit data analysis.

I think the best benefit of Copper Member is its allowance to post images for Newbie rank.

I think the Member level signature is more highly sought after than the ability to post images as a Newbie.

I do not think Copper Membership have more benefits than "Member" account. They are better than newbie or Junior members only.
Searching them is no benefit as I saw Legendary wearing  copper membership too (since Concept is introduced in November 10 2017 only so it means some people bought this membership for sake of buying or donation for the forum only as they do not have any benefits of this membership.)

This membership is only intended to fill a specific niche

I think he meant those project devs who don't want to hire a bounty manager, they can create an account, pay fee to buy Copper Member tag and open a bounty thread with images.

Is it just me or are there very few Copper Accounts in operation?

I know there are benefits but the concept doesnt seen to be advertised enough
and it seems to be a rarity to see one eventhough some bounty programs
are looking for Copper Account holders.

There could be more Copper Members hiding here than you may realize.  The badge doesn't have to be worn, it can be hidden.

I don't know the exact number however this could help...

1. Click members from the menu
2. Click search for members tab
3. Check search by position
4. Type copper
5. Click search
