These bad guys are trying to fool people with corona virus. It is crazy that they do so, so many people have now died from the virus and will continue to increase in the future. If they can't help the whole world, then they should not be scammed like that, hoping they will be caught and punished.

I am not surprised that scammers decided to deceive people in this way.

they will find a way to scam people , this coronavirus threat is also big opportunity for them by faking a donation, 1 people donate will be a big funds for them since they are claiming they are WHO representative . Which we all know many people need help in terms of health world wide now.
Mosty WHO will only ask for donation like medicines and other medical services and there is no way they will ask for bitcoin so always be careful for your money think twice before sending.
Scammers are always scammers and they will surely show up whenever there is an opportunity to scam other people they surely will. I also receive tons of emails that are asking for donations to help eliminate Corona virus all over the world, I don't know why those kinds of people do this thing during an epidemic not knowing that they might also be a victim of this virus. Sad

Even there is a virus spreading still the scammers need to work and they use this to take advantage to other people because there are some people would like to help others by just donating some funds and they use this to scam other people it is better if we are donating our funds into legit website or platform or it is more efficient if we find some nonprofit organization and that is legit than trusting those emails came from different users.
That's definitely correct if someone wants to help and donate be sure to donate only on trusted websites or people and if you can donate directly it is better that donating online. Scammers are everywhere as long as they see an opportunity to scam people they will surely do it, that's why everyone should be vigilant these days.

Disgusts me that people are actually using the current pandemic as an avenue to further their scammy schemees. Shame on those people who doesn't have even half a heart to what's happening to the world currently. Anyway, since you brought forth a scam masked in the form of donation, if other members could also post anything of the likes here in this thread for it to be compiled, that would be great. The last thing we need in these trying times are scammers who are using the name of charity in order to dupe people into donating into their own pockets.

It's a common method of a fraudster, so people should be aware enough that some online information can't be trusted. A lot of people are suffering because of COVID-19 however, it doesn't stop fraudsters to continue on taking advantage of other people's suffering for their own benefits. Anyway, you can find a better way to donate for people in need by watching news because they usually show the list where to send donations. Don't be swayed by the email, try doing some research to ensure that it's legit, because it has specific purpose.

It's really sad to see despite all the crisis and trouble happening to world, many people are still taking advantage to it. Even WHO is suffering tons of Cyber attacks i suspect they want to sell those precious data to the highest bidder in the Darkweb and some might disrupt the research to the vaccine recently a research facility in Britain got hacked, the hackers want to put ransomware to the data.

Very concerned indeed with the conditions that occur today where the coronavirus is growing almost all over the world, but some people take advantage of this by making a donation system as their own benefit, of course this needs to be careful if we want to give some coins to help the people victim.

I do understand scammer uses the coronavirus after see its impacts that leads people to be willing to donate to help others because the problem is too big. that why I suggested the safe way on how people will find trusted people to do that my topic shows how, although some say it's impossible  due to rules on Bitcointalk

Read suggestion on:: https://bitcointalksearch.org/topic/how-about-bitcointalk-raise-money-in-btc-to-donate-on-fight-against-coronavirus-5234684
but Only fool will believe that a simple email is legit enough to ask for donation when every single institutions in our community is asking for our donation so why bother helping those email sender?

we can Help our own community because the whole world now are suffering and we dont need to go outside our cities to find someone to donate for.

my family packing at least 4-6 packs of relief goods every time i go to grocery and gave those to the poor family near us.this is the small help we can give because we are also short in Budget because of quarantine.

Definitely, COVID-19 affected so many lives and works of many people so scammers will use this situation because they know that there are so many affected people by the virus and they know that someone will take his or her offers, such as they will give some link or anything.

Scammers are scammers, they are so wise on fooling so many people so always be careful.

Always check the website of the offered link of anonymous person, search about it and read some reviews about the website.

Great to see this share. Not wondering how this is new junk that is coming our way.

People are so much hard heartful that they will do anything for earning money these days. Now as the coronavirus situation is getting more critical they will start shooting such emotional e-mails to everyone and will try to get money from them.

Sending Email to ask for donation is a Flag for me and will never give a damn reading it thoroughly for sure i will delete this automatic if i received 1.

this is normal when there are big issues going on worldwide, these scammers and hackers will take advantage and since people are worrying and concern they can be easily mislead by them.

first why need to donate for others when your community needs the help most?just fund the community and let them help people near you because this is domino effect and other community will do what you guys did on yours.

Yes the first action shall be same one as quoted above. "Never ever click the email itself". I would also straight away put them in spam box. Will apply the filter first and any upcoming emails would be diverted automatically.

What a shame. Using corona virus just to get bitcoin from other people because of this pandemic is really a shame. Why do such people exist? Many people are greedy and does not choose any time to be so. Such a pity to them being such kind of jerks to times like this where in fact we should stay together as one and not to take advantage of each other.

That's shame. The world is suffering and they are not stop to get people scam. It's sounds rude or selfish but i wish corona attack those scammers whom scam innocent people in this situation. Do not click unknown link from your email account. Specially this kinda. You'll try to help those helpless people but scammers will scam you. I already know that there are people who will start looking for ways to scam people using this case of covid-19. Everyone really has to be careful on who they are giving money, if you want to donate to any of these organizations you should go straight to their website and look for how you can donate to help those victims of Corona virus.

If you don’t know their website you can visit their social media pages on Instagram and Facebook or even Twitter and look for links to their website. The good thing is that their social media are verified with the check sign so that you will know the main pages. So, don’t reply or click links from unsolicited emails.

Even in a situation like this there are still some fools (scammers) that are looking for how they are going to be scamming people.
Well, it’s only for those that they can deceive, I can never be deceived by that nonsense. World health organizations will not just send you random emails especially when you have not signed up on their websites, so how the heck did they get your email? That’s what you should know.

Organizations will only make the post on their social media pages and then urge people to donate through the link they posted. The only time you will receive mail is if you signed for their newsletter. And despite that, when you receive such mail you should know when it’s coming from the right people or not.

We should be careful about clicking and clicking links because this might be our weakness. We want to help yes, but there are plenty of ways to do this. We should exercise caution and do our best to warn our co-Bitcoiners. It is just sad to see that scammers are taking advantage of the situation we are in right now. We definitely need cooperation and teamwork to fight COVID-19 rather than becoming a liability of the government because for sure, karma would pave its way.

I am not really in awe to know that there some people who use this time as an opportunity tot take advantage of other people's humble hearts. People with this kind of mind and immoral intention would not mind any period, even a disastrous pandemic disease, to carry out their plans of actions in deceiving people through collection of money disguise as a form donation and a initiative to help that would result a greater good to the community. Nevertheless, people should take extra precautions and be vigilant enough in movements take out through online platforms.

The impact of this disaster is that there are some people who use the situation to earn money. I hope that those who commit fraud will receive the consequences. Thank you, friends, for sharing your information and I think we should always be vigilant.

When getting news or emails that are unclear the sender we have to do the checking. Don't the origin of clicking on a site that might be dangerous. Preferably if we want to donate money better through legally authorized organizations. So someone wants to do good by helping a friend who is currently influenced by the spread of the Covid-19 virus can be channeled well.

Careful also regardless on what sites.
I've seen some investigation of BTC donation happening here right now. I wouldn't just drop a single coin in every site that even if it is like a forum, just like here where scams aren't moderated. Caveat emptor as we know it.
I've seen some sites that are just merely copying and pasting layouts and that's quite common to encounter actually.

We all know the coronavirus or the COVID-19 affected everyone greatly and that’s why we also know that it is important for us to work together and help each other especially those who needed it badly. The cure for COVID-19 is not yet complete and for that we can say that our scientists are having a hard time on it so we should provide help to them also.  One way of helping is donating money BUT we should be very careful on it. Frauds still exists even in this kind of situation. Here are some tips to avoid frauds:

For the generous people, if you want to send your help and reach out to these organizations that are helping the fight against covid19.

Send the help directly, don't send it to unusual emails that teaches you where to send that you don't even sure. Look for the official websites which won't bother you because it only takes minutes from doing it.

Fraudsters always try to take advantage of any situation to benefit from the negligence of their targets. As a precaution, we should re-check the information we can by visiting an official account. Fraud mode via email has often happened, I also experienced it several times, after checking the official account there was no information as written in the email.
This should be a note for all of us, every exchange/project / all organizations must have an official account and always give warnings about fraud, they usually apply one-door information, for example, official announcements are only made on their official Twitter or Facebook. So if there is information via email or telegram can be a fraud, so make sure it first by asking in CS.

Bitcoin donation on e-mail, who'll fall with that? Even it is not crisis or there is no pandemic, emails circulating that look for bitcoin donation is scam. Coronavirus has been the very word of every people in here because of the casualties it has caused and so the scammers too. Corona virus is a pandemic virus that spreads throughout the world, so that many scammers are also spreads to collect money for their on used. As a bitcoin user, I really hate those people who are really used the crisis to step up people who really needs money. Scammers are not only in bitcoin but also in real money, because when I really need to bought surgical mask for the protection the price of every mask was very high, I think 5 times expensive, so that I don't have any ways to do that's why I bought them. To those people who used the crisis to step up others people will have a punishment very soon.

That's right, they took advantage of the pandemic so that they seize the opportunity to sell in a higher value of price. But here in my country, as the government heard the news about that, those people who hoard necessary items are punishable by law and can suffer years of imprisonment. The mindset that they have is to let their fellow citizen die from the virus as well as they get more money from the people. Luckily, in my country, people aren't dumb to buy to them but they post it on social media to address how people are abusing the power of the virus to earn money. It is reasonable if they hoard items or goods just to help other people but the thing they do is in the opposite side of it. Instead of helping, they harm other people most especially who are in a lower class and it is good that the government took some actions about that problem.

This has little to do with bitcoin tough... These are just scammers that have found their scamming niche.

In the newspaper i read, there are articles of fiat-scammers using the corona crisis on a daily basis...  Yesterday there was a story of a 95 year old widow that was scammed by somebody that promised to go to the shop for her and buy the groceries she needed to survive... The bastard just ran with the money, leaving the old woman completely helpless and isolated, without food...

A couple days before, there was a story of people going door-to-door collecting money to help corona-victims using one of those big organisations (don't remember if it was doctors without boundarys, or the red cross,...). Offcourse they were not affiliated, and just plain scammers using human misery to enrich themselfs.

Just as bad are all the news reports of doctors and nurses having their cars broken into by people searching for facemasks and hand sanitizers. Imagine risking your life on a daily basis by treating people that are infected, going to your car after a full shift and then having to deal with the fact your windshield is smashed because you had an indication of being a doctor or a nurse posted on your windshield...

It's human nature, most of us are honest people, some are bad seeds... It doesn't matter if they try to scam by asking btc using a spam mailing list, or if they go around trying to steal money face-to-face. Bad situations seem to fuel those people, it seems that the willingness of good people to do good things leads to bad people having an extra incentive trying to steal from the good people.

Yeah, this isn't exclusive to Bitcoin, and is happening every day with fiat currencies. Not just for the corona pandemic, but also other viruses which have existed before; Think Ebola, and SARS. Most people are somewhat decent, and just tend to wander off the path a little, before finding their path again. No one is perfect, but I don't think that excuses those that are exploiting a pandemic or any other virus for that matter. There are some crimes, and "scummy" behaviour that you can forgive, and give another chance. But, when you are exploiting something as important as health, and robbing people of money when they could need it the most because of the record amount of people out of jobs, this is probably inexcusable.

This is definitely bad news for Bitcoin, but not exclusively. Its bad news for all currencies, and humanity that people will stoop this low in crisis.

I have seen some accusation related to corona virus donation, you can here

1. https://bitcointalksearch.org/topic/covid-19-donation-cryptolocalatm-self-moderated-5234209

2. https://bitcointalksearch.org/topic/covid-19-who-website-5234084

That is really bad, I don't think why they (scammer) justifies any means to gain self-satisfaction above the suffering of others.

Yeah be carefull everyone, check the platform first before you have any intention and also you ask to this forum for more detail.

Its just sad that some people are still taking advantage the unfortunate situation the world currently face and instead of doing a good deed they are busy trying to scam naive people.

So dont believe the email asking you to donate for covid-19 patients and dont ever click the link. If you want to help, do it by cooperating to your local leaders and give your donation personally.
It's much better that way and the assurance that your help will be reach people who are in need is very possible. People who are still aiming to scam others are continuing to do this things.
Be wise in times like this, be aware and forget about those emails much better to be more safe than sorry if you fed those scammers.

Opportunity in the suffering of the people, that's what can be done by thieves and fraudsters, people in the world are experiencing calamity, it is the irresponsible elements who take the opportunity.

OP you did the right thing telling people here.

virus C is currently under serious consideration by the government, all funds and drugs are fully handled by the local government, so don't believe in the name of the donation with Bitcoin, the government never ordered it and did it.

I have received many emails in the last couple of weeks. Some wanted help, some wants Bitcoin donate for their children etc. I haven't click on that email links as i know all of those emails are fake and hackers are trying to hack in this system. In the past, my wallet have been hacked and after that i am now aware about any email. Thanks for this issue to bring us know.

Always be mindful of your accounts as it is very vulnerable to the hackers, and if you don't want to be fooled then learn more about the security of your accounts. Also don't click anything that is suspicious in internet maybe it can direct you to another website where it can gather all your data and information. Many hackers are taking advantage of the virus to gain money because they know people are soft and kind these days to help the poor. As you take care of your health, also take care of your money and crypto to prevent losses and viruses in your computer. Seek more information if the emails are legit and tallied to the original email of some organization that asks for a donation. They are also taking advantage of the name of the organization so that the people will believe on them easily.

Every time there is an event or an opportunity like this, scammers will not think twice to scam those new investors or those innocent people.

Nothing new and I will not fall with this childish way of scamming people. I can distinguish which is a legit and a scam with regards to donation. Feel sad for those people who really gave Bitcoin to these scammers but they are just experiencing the consequences for their ignorance and lack of knowledge.

Despite the problem of the pandemic disease that the globe is facing, we should be all be careful in order not to fall for cheap scam like this. Center for disease control twitter page is verified and if this donation call is coming from their parastatal, then I'm very sure CDC will announce also on their twitter page. I don't even think CDC will announce for funding because there are not an independent organization. So everyone need to be careful.

Government does not go around and ask people for donations at a time like this , they just go ahead and use all the national funding and trust me they don't have time to specifically go and ask people for donations .
I think it is better if you want to donate you do it to the right people , There are people dying due to Corona virus just because hey cannot even afford the testing . Even the government is dumping the old people after the age of 80 so that they can take care of the people who are younger.
World is getting ridiculous.

A lot of great input here and I suppose we are very lucky on this forum as we are so used to scams. These people are the lowest of the low and I’m pretty sure they won’t get any btc out of anyone.
Interesting point to make though is that NatWest mentions this scam , so in a weird way it’s a little bit of extra free marketing for bitcoin, albeit in a negative way .

I am not surprised that scammers decided to deceive people in this way.

It always happen whenever there is trouble such as this in the world, this as an avenue to deceive many citizens to donate to them and exit the scene. This is not a new thing to us, we must be more careful to these scammers around us not to Fall for their cheap tricks. Although, many have already fallen to this but by this awareness many will be kept safe from these inhuman citizens with human flesh.

They have equally launched a token called "coronavirus" which many have called insensibility on the part of the creator, we shouldn't label every as joke, stay safe and be more vigilant.

I hate it if they are using cryptocurrency on their bullshit activities what more insulting is they gonna pinned it as donation and help for the cure of this corona virus.

Some bad people will use this chance to fundraising, and they will invite more people to donate their money in the name of donating. It is no surprise because it happens every time crisis or disaster happen in any country, that bad people will use the opportunity to get money from the donations.
They are more than just a bad people. They arent human for doing this, imagine how many people suffered. There are concern people that might be victimized by this and this is the worse. Those people that wanted to donate but instead will offer money for these lunatics and opportunist. Hope Police can do something to track those assholes.

To find a way to treat coronavirus, millions and billions of dollars are allocated from the state budget of any country. So ordinary people do not need to transfer any amounts, especially in bitcoin. I myself received such letters and immediately sent them to the Spam folder. Do not fall for the tricks of scammers, they will always put money higher than the fate of mankind.

It is no surprise because it happens every time crisis or disaster happen in any country, that bad people will use the opportunity to get money from the donations. If you want to donate in bitcoin or fiat, make sure you donate to the legal fundraising, and if you got announcement or email from someone you don't know, it is better to ignore it and don't let you get trick by them.

and aside from these donation tactics, we are already full of corona-virus related projects here in the forum. trying to take advantage of the situation. if you will check below projects, they are only here to possibly rip money from those that will buy their coins or tokens. And for those that are promising to contribute some of their supply to this situation, I highly doubt that. How can we track that they will truly send something to the needy? We will not know that part. so be very careful on jumping on one of these projects. you know that most if not all of them are just here for quick buck and not really sincere in employing their objectives.

Scammers are seeking every opportunity in order to make some easy money.Coronavirus is trending and people can do really stupid things, when they are under panic, like giving away money and buying expensive masks and remedies they don't need.In my country, the price of masks increased 10 times and scammers are selling pseudo-protective masks and actually aren't helping against coronavirus.
Email spam/scams are one of the oldest scam methods. They exist for decades.People should be aware about what's happening. Not clicking on links in a random email from an unknown sender is common sense.

Not really the first time that I've seen some scammer used something like this to be honest I've worst,
I have seen a scammer using some sick people's info to ask for donation,
Some calamity survivors state just to ask for donations.

Today we are facing a huge problem to the economics because of the outbreak happening right now and because of the coronavirus or the NCov19 this virus comes from Wuhan, China and spreading rapidly and it does not bring good news to the market too because while having this economic crisis all of the stock market and the cryptocurrency fall down the same with the fiat currency and now there are a lot of people stating they are having a donation campaign to the people experiencing this kind of outbreak but that is not really their intentions instead they are trying to scam other people just to make money and avoid this kind of an action because the only one who authorizes to do that is the government and other officials on their country.

they will find a way to scam people , this coronavirus threat is also big opportunity for them by faking a donation, 1 people donate will be a big funds for them since they are claiming they are WHO representative . Which we all know many people need help in terms of health world wide now.
Mosty WHO will only ask for donation like medicines and other medical services and there is no way they will ask for bitcoin so always be careful for your money think twice before sending.
