In order to understand the issue, you don't need to create one I think. Teaching them the current one with market history will be better for them to understand, no?

Teach them about existing cryptocurrencies! I see no point in creating another new one of many thousands.For understanding cryptocurrency you do not need to create them. Unless you want your students to create their own, but like I said, I see no point in doing so.
