I never understood why cryptotraders and exchanges support ICO's, my reasoning is this: An ICO gets funded, then they do what, they SELL the BTC they raised for fiat and push the price dive on BTC, thus taking all those BTC out of the trade environment, anyone thinking that an ICO would reinvest into the exchange is naive. This hurts everyone, even the exchanges. You might say "Well the exchanges get fee's on ico" well that is true, but they are losing all future potential fee's on those coins, if they had continued trade on the market.

So in Short - ICO's are killing Bitcoin and CryptoMarkets.

They are not killing bitcoin thats the only way to promote token to be familiar just like bitcoin and other altcoin.Icos are just stalks of the bitcoin, icos is only way to move bitcoin in the marketplace.

But thats exactly what happens.. Take a look at  Ortho ICO, funds release DEV heads for the hills and sells off his coins.

https://c-cex.com/?p=ortho-btc

https://bitcointalksearch.org/topic/ann-orthocoin-ortho-full-of-features-pod-35-x13-launched-788907

or the Dozens of other Scams ICO's..

they might aswell just 100% premine. or BTC Loan that I will never repay and here are some useless coins for you trouble.

Most people get paid AFTER they've done the work, NOT before.

I don't think ICO'S are killing bitcoin, their is a market competition but bitcoin is on top and I think with all the emerging altcoins mostly are scam people will not be dumb enough to invest on those that are not reliable. It is still safier to buy crypto that are tested by time and even if it is higher in price the profit is much higher also. Just buy crypto investment on the money that you can afford to loose and make it grow in time. This is the best way to do in the crypto industry.

In the end, after several years of blaming this and that, Bitcoin remains very strong. ICOs are still running and peddled around like street foods and Bitcoin is also running like bull crashing all time highs year after year after year. ICO is merely a small speck of dust that cannot even wound Bitcoin, much less kill it. Even a thousand altcoins competing with Bitcoin cannot drag it down. So let there be ICOs, new crypto technologies, and whatnots.

I don't think so. on the contrary because of untrustable ones , bitcoin still safe port for most of invester. on the other hand , new ico prices are very low so people who wants to get "rich" more easy way they use new icos
crypto ico if equated to kill bitcoin is still far away and it is impossible because now bitcoin is still the best and crypto ico will not be one of the coins that surpass bitcoin. so I think it's still safe to have bitcoin.
Bitcoin is all about the trust, and ico is just a support system to the bitcoin network. Here each ico is backed by an real time application that makes it grow high or get out of usage. Forever bitcoin will serve as the leader and these ico's therefore serve as the backbone and for the stability.

in case you missed it this topic is from 2014. in other words someone said some FUD bullshit back 4 years ago and some of you are agreeing with it without even knowing what you are saying!

the fact is the ICOs have caused a lot of damage to the cryptocurrency world because all of them are useless and most of them are pure scams, but they are not significant enough to be able to do anything noticeable to bitcoin.

So better be careful of those scamming ICOs nowadays and I also agree that it really kills bitcoin reputation. People around the world will become hesitant if this type of situations will always happen to cryptocurrency economy. I don't think this will bring good impact to digital currency bitcoin if ever incoming ico will still scam people,  so it should be regulated here in the forum so that the previous scam ico will not happen to anyone of us whom wanted to participate with new ico to come.
The biggest threat to bitcoin is not the ICOs, rather the threat of government ban and regulations. Though the activities of scam ICOs constitute a nuisance but it is no threat compared to government ban.

You should say that the ICO scam project may be more accurate. Not all ICOs are negative for Bitcoin. There are many good ICOs that can expand the popularity of Bitcoin, and the ICO of those garbage is impacting Bitcoin. It is far less than the impact on ETH, so I think your concern is redundant. With more understanding of ICO, those ICOs now have a hard time attracting investment. People are more willing to invest in Bitcoin. This is currently happening and we can all see.

Not all ICOs are bad for Bitcoin. I have seen ICOs where the funds eventually goes towards services that are beneficial to Bitcoin. One of these were a Bitcoin mining farm that were being funded in Island. The other ICO funded a game, https://www.augmentorsgame.com/ that are linked to the Blockchain.

The most negative contribution from some of these ICOs are the scams, because a lot of people lose money and then they turn their back on Bitcoin.

I think you should be careful with ICO projects because there are so many ICO scams, bitcoin is very high on the market today and it brings a lot of benefits to everyone, the user community. So I think ICO crypto can not beat bitcoin in the future.

Exchanges dont care for anything else then profit.

They will list scam coins as long people will pay for votes for enlistment.

Everyone cares about profit including the investors. Many people claim here to be be bitcoin fans but they will switch to another coin if they see more profit.

In my opinion, in the future, the potential for ICO projects to beat bitcoin is very high. At present, there are many projects that are well developed.

Nope, I don't think. Because every ICO project is different. One coin isn't the enemy for another. I recently trying to invest in a reliable ICO project. Though lots of ICOs project are on the market and doing well like- SciDex. Keeps promising and results oriented. Smiley

I do not agree with this idea. Bitcoin is the basis of this market. The building block of the market.
Bitcoin does not end as long as governments do not forbid!

I agree that crypto ICOs are killing bitcoins and it is because of a number of reasons:

1) Scam ICOs : Most of the new coins are scams and they are launched just to fool the people and get their money. When people loose money in these, they blame whole crypto community for this. As a result, the image of bitcoins is affected as well.

2) Bitcoin share decreasing: With so many ICOs being launched everyday, people are selling their bitcoins and investing that money in new coins. They hope that they will be able to make much more profit. As a result, the demand for bitcoins is decreasing.

Can someone tell me if any of the other 500 or so alts have been adopted in the real world?

I can tell you. The answer is 'no'.

The real world recognizes the utility of bitcoin and bitcoin alone -- at least to the extent that it recognizes cryptocurrenies at all. To the world at large (i.e. people other than those of us who obsess over the matter on bitcointalk and reddit/bitcoin), cryptocurrency _is_ Bitcoin. End of discussion.

I also do not understand why ICOs can kill Bitcoin. Yes, there are some nontrusted projects that make scam offers, and it can affect crypto negatively. But kill?...

I totally agree with you. Many new ico will come out every day, so the new ico will reduce the market share of bitcoins. And many ico are not really useful, they are a scam, but the exchanges are not going to check the reliability of these ico in order to make money.
