Meanwhile, we have got a new player, "TDL" (renamed "Syksy"), who started by constructing 4 rowhouses, 6 apartments each, in Borough 4. The expected return of the investment is 9% per year. (I think we should change to per year figures as they seem to make sense with real life rates).

Building in Borough 4 is forbidden for Nobles and corps (except Church).

Beer has come to Crypto Kingdom.

"Very good work, we should be at maximum production very soon".

Zephyrus left the Benedictine monk to return to his task at the Church's brewery and stepped outside. The building had been damaged by the earthquake but was still serviceable, and had been a center of activity in the last few months, as the Church was restoring and expanding its beer production.

With the events of the past year still fresh in everyone's memory, and the unhealthy effects of so called "drinking" water, the Church had quickly reached enough brewing capacity to cater for the entire needs of Cryptotown with enough spare to handle a population increase. After all, now that water was known to be a health hazard, and even mead being unhealthy, people would quickly flock to the safe drinking that beer afforded.

Among the different orders of the Church, the Benedictine order was specialized in brewing, and there were some skilled artisans there, crafting some of the best beer in the lands, and supplying not only the Church, but the population at large, with a healthy and enjoyable staple drink.

To celebrate the Church's restoration of its brewing capacity, His Majesty the King graciously gave the Church license to create a special batch of highly prized barley wine. Rumor has it that this batch may well surpass in quality some of the wines available in Cryptotown. The Church will present the King and the Wizard Developer P.J. with the first bottles issued from this batch.  This batch has been graded, and is a respectable 12-14/20. The quality is expected to increase with age up to a possible limit of 17/20, giving it the potential to be a very high quality barley wine.

First look at the barleywine, "Friar Maximus":

This wine is initially priced at 48,000 moneritos per bottle, and is suitable for those of expert or higher level. It is significantly cheaper than W1600, making it a good choice for those who have not quite made it to the nobility rank. Only 12,000 of these bottles will ever be made, so this barley wine has the possibility of becoming interesting to a collector after some time, as well as rising in price quite substantially in the meantime.

After the brewing of this first batch has concluded, the Church will be able to supply beer to everyone who wants to drink healthily without incurring the high costs of wine. The Church, desirous to keep healthy drinking available to the population at large, has decided to sell its quality Trappist beer at a low cost of only 5,000 moneritos per bottle, making this a very attractive option for poorer people. This would be a suitable drink for those at level 5 (Novice) and below. The Church hopes that, by keeping those costs low, more people will be able to afford beer. A healthier population will be a benefit to the entirety of Cryptotown and its economy.

If you wish to purchase this, you may buy up to 500 bottles per character. It is located at column JA in the F_OWN tab.

This one-of-a-kind barley wine will never be made again and is likely to become a collector's item.  We have sold a little under 50% of it. There is still time to get your bottle!

Just a reminder-starting very soon, you will be required to drink for health in the game. This can not only be an asset, but also something you need to sustain yourself in Crypto Kingdom.

Quarry3 opens :: Other important schedule decisions

Please familiarize yourself with the /NewSchedule tab. It is the first one in the Game DB, and contains the schedule for the near future. More columns will be added to enable others to keep us uptodate of what's happening.

The most important change for now is the Quarry3 subgame. There is an earlier decision to not let the stone price rise uncontrollably, but it has done just that and is now sitting at 200 m/stone (the price at which the peasants can sell it). Quarrying the stone from untouched boroughs is now enabled.

The subgame is not using the NPC's due to version management challenges. Also the drills have rusted, become obsolete or stolen during the turmoils. The new approach to quarrying is wholesale, easy to explain:

- The geology remains at (X, Y, Z):
* X is the topsoil, yielding 300,000 stone
* Y is the cracked stone, yielding 1,200,000 stone
* Z is the hard stone, yielding 1,200,000 stone.
* each number takes the value of [0...9]

- One team costs 420 mil/year and can excavate 7 consecutive tranches (making an average excavation take 2 years)

- The first year a team is employed, only 4 tranches can be excavated due to setup difficulty. (The setup is per team, not per site.)

- Firing the workers costs 120 mil/team extra.

NewCorp is in a good position to start quarrying as it owns 8 of the 9 untouched chapelries in the town. Due to the monopoly position, it has the intention to lower the stone price to 150 m/stone once the first operations yield results in 1602.

Boroughs 6, 8, 9 will be opened in 1605-1607. From then on, we will slowly move to the long term situation, where there are always unsold chapelries for prospective buyers in the outskirts of the Town, for 1,000 mil apiece.

Important to admins!

Now is a possibility to make the admin_salary, by doing the following:

- Some buildings have their stone count missing in CharDB/BLDG/"I".
- The information can be found in MapDB/BLDG REG/"I" (per sqm) or MapDB/BLDG REG/"J" (totals)
- Please use per sqm values for buildings that have later split (all child buildings have the same per sqm value for convenience), and the totals if the building is still the same as the one in the MapDB.
- Mark the stonecount that totally cannot be found, as yellow.
- Tell us in the thread that you start.

Fire strikes Riddick's Teahouse!

Riddick's Teahouse has a large window area, making it important to heat it quite a lot in these late winter months (1601.2 is the first complete winter in the Kingdom). It is not known what happened next but suddenly the building was in flames. Perhaps the engineers could not envision such a heat load and the chimney was deficient. Or something.

This has never happened before, so there was a huge mess in organizing. In wintertime, getting enough water was also funnily difficult. The horse & carriage owners were alarmed to haul the water from the Springs, and finally the fire was put out. Thankfully there were no other houses directly connecting so the damage was contained to the Teahouse. Unluckily, it burned to the ground, with also most of the newly installed windows destroyed and the rest credited to the owner's account (70*WIRS & 160*IC were salvaged). It is not known if the owner had insurance.

(The building struck, and the course of events was determined by die.)

 Angry Angry

And I had just bought all those new windows! Around 200+ for the Teahouse.

Nevertheless, I am glad to hear that Riddick was unharmed. I will be in need of doing some building soon, haha. Riddick is temporarily residing at Saddam's Castle while he ponders his future plans for the site.

"To the ground" was originally thought "collapsed" but the closer inspection reveals that the stone walls are intact although at a bad repair, and a repair project is sufficient to make the whole structure good again. Also the WIRS and IC are credited to Riddick's account. Thanks belongs to the carriage owners who only were capable to bring enough water in (and that there were no adjacent buildings) - otherwise the damage could have extended much further  Undecided

Tavastia, who lives nearby and visited the place often, is astounded of the bad luck and donates 5 mil to the repairs, wishing that there could be an insurance company to take care of these. (We are seeking for a townwide insurance provider.)

Budget for the expedition has been updated, as well as IC totals. We are ready to set sail!

Wonderful. Let's see when the other teams realize that the early movers get an advantage!

- CLXII has a marketcap of about 3,800 mil
- VOH has a marketcap of about 1,500 mil.

Perhaps RME will bring an equal windfall to the daring adventurers. Smiley

Town Council Elections

Rules say that 6 Councillors need to be elected, and they decide the rules.

The electors are the CKG holders, so that each holder may give any part of his gold votes to support a candidate. Each candidate with 142,858 votes is secured and once 6 candidates are secured, the vote ends. Electors may change their support at any time while the election is ongoing.

Town Council elections are periodical, and now is a good period to hold one, since 1 councillor passed away and another has taken a journey to faraway lands.

We the King have about 485,000 votes and support the existing councillors to continue. We are interested in hearing about the new candidates!

Councillors' duties are quite high level, and they need to be active in playing to be able to contribute.

There is currently no compensation for the post, but has been in the past and might be in the future.

For those that do not already know the existing Councillors are:

HM - Mayor
The Marchioness of Neverland
Duke of North Face
Earl of White Cross

I would like to nominate HE The Prince of Ramsey (Saddam) for the position and would be interested to hear of others who feel they have the time to commit to this position.

Adventure Subgame - In Search For The Perfect Rum

Welcome to start the Adventure, as soon as the main celebration tonight is over! Smiley

This is the final expedition party!

There have been talks of rum in faraway lands. This excited Earl Noms, and he quickly started talking to interested parties who may like to join him on an adventure! Here are the details of the expedition:

Team
  • SirJacket will be the team leader. He will also bring along a 4-horse carriage and funds as well as IC. He has worked with Noms in the past and they have a good rapport.
  • Noms will be coming along because of his vast knowledge of land and land aquisition. His keen business sense will help in the negotations of the purchase of any rum, if found. He will also bring both funds and IC to the team, as well as a 4-horse carriage and lots of wine.
  • Mooo saw the expedition as a chance to get a taste of country life again. As a former cowherd, he is used to life in the fields. Mooo will contribute some moneritos to the expedition's funds, and will be sure to bring his natural history drawing books to capture some of the most striking animals to be found in the far lands.
  • Noms will bring along some of his military - a Lieutenant and 3 Privates. This is mostly a security force to help out in case there is trouble along the way before/after rum has been acquired. He will also bring along 2 Assistant 1's to help with the organization of the rum and helping facilitating the buying/negotiations.
  • cryptonic21 will be coming along on the expedition and bringing IC to help.
  • Jeeves - Level 8 Butler [NPC]
  • Jefferson - Level 1 Assistant [NPC]
  • Butters - Level 1 Assistant [NPC]
  • Dan - Lieutenant [NPC]
  • Tom - Private [NPC]
  • Jerry - Private [NPC]
  • Jones - Private [NPC]

Budget
  • The budget currently consists of 315.75M
    • noms: 100M
    • SirJacket: 165.75M
    • moneromooo: 50M
  • The IC for purchasing rum currently sits at 1075 IC
    • noms: 350 IC
    • SirJacket: 500 IC
    • cryptonic: 25 IC
    • fluffypony: 200 IC

Supplies

  • The 2 4-horse carriages will be used to get to/from the seashore.
  • Noms will bring along 40 cases of 1600 Wine to help keep us in good health during the voyage.
  • We will be exploring the oceans abroad using a Carrack. During his travels, Moneromoo met many people, including a merchant who was indebted to him for some work Moo did for him whilst he was abroad. He offered us the use of the Carrack for the expedition for a small payment of moneritos (10M rental).

Quote
The largest European sailing ship of the 15th century is the Spanish carrack, easily outdoing the caravel in tonnage (more than 1000 tons compared to an average of 250 for the caravel). The Carrack quickly became the standard vessel of Atlantic trade and exploration in mid-16th century Europe.

This is the final expedition party!

"The carriages stopped at the pier by late morning. Clouds came and went lazily, creating ever changing light and shadow shapes on the calm water ahead. The carrack was anchored there, waiting to be loaded for another voyage.

A couple of the Earl of White Cross' guard took position around the party, while others started transferring crates and supplies to the waiting ship.

Mooo checked the crate containing his personal effects. In addition to the 50 million moneritos he contributed to the expedtion, he had carefully packed his childhood ocarina as well as a few blank drawing books, intent on capturing some of the most exotic scenes and life the party might encounter on their way. Over his years spent out in the countryside as a cowherd, Mooo had acquired quite the talent at drawing natural life in all its diverse glory and was intent on coming back with more lifelike marvels from their exotic destination.

Satisfied with the inspection, Mooo resealed the waterproofed cloth inside the crate and proceeded towards the carrack's gangplank. It would not be long before they were at sea."

So far the total we are bringing is:
  • 350 IC
  • 150M moneritos

Once SirJacket confirms his total that will be posted as well.

Vodka enters the Kingdom

Due to the shortage of interest in acquiring the famed Methuselah rum, King's oldtime favorite, the Adventure has been postponed to be resolved in 1604. The 1602 spirit will be the traditional Vodka instead.

Vodka is the only spirit that has been produced locally. We have now 2 types of vodka, VOH is historical vodka that was coerced to come into light from the cellars of the restaurants by promising 50% off the spirits tax (restaurant owners have received 20*#_of_employees*VOH, and charged 50,000 m/bottle).  VOD is the newly produced stuff that the town is selling at 140,000 m/bottle.

"Only" 11,260 bottles of VOH exist, and no more can be made because it is made from pre-Earthquake good water, which does not exist any more.

Still wild and free
The Ancient Fellowship of the Knights of the Round Table

The Fellowship consists currently of 10 members, the Knights. We have acquired a large 36 q tract of land in 5-N. The construction of the RT House there could be started. Situation:

- Plans are ready, to be customized to partial construction if needed;
- We only have 1,070 mil in the bank, only enough for partial construction;
- Window situation in the Kingdom is dire; in 1602 there could be an opportunity to amass enough, but frame construction can happen in 1601;
- Pool payouts are good, supportive of quick action to tap into them;
- The Hypothecary Bank is willing to give 6mo loan at 0.32%, so that the sum is 500 mil for the land and half of the actual building cost;
- It is also possible to wait with the property and invest in CKG to hope for increase;
- Accepting new Knights who would bring in more money is not possible yet.

The Knights:
#1 HE Forte Spagnolo
#2 HM King <-- supports maxxing out the loan and constructing the Esplanade-side face of the House asap (1601-1602)
#3 HE Soul <-- volunteers to undercut the loan rate offered by the bank and give it at 0.30% himself, same terms; supports HM proposal
#4 Marq. of Cryptoluna
#5 HH NF
#6 Marq. of Tavastia <-- supports HM proposal
#7 HE Ramsey
#8 Earl of Naoned
#9  Earl of White Cross
#10 HE OZ

Because of Forte Spagnolo's absence, HM will take the helm in chairing the meetings as Knight #2.

#8 supports #2 as well. Thanks for the fine plan.
