I love quilts, and this looks like a great project/idea!

While I'm not in the market for one at the moment, if you need any design assistance (jazzing up your thread, quilt designs etc), let me know and I would be happy to assist free of charge.

Keep up the awesome work!

Thanks and take care,

Hmm, the price difference is certainly big when manufactured quilts are compared with hand made quilts. And you are right most of the hand quilts are selling upwards of $700. I was curious that as a consumer, why should one purchase hand made quilts when there is big price difference? Of course, that way you can support traditional quilters, but is there any other difference also?

The answer to your question is open ended. Think of it like this: Why do people buy anything of value? Answer that and you will answer your own question.

I can't comment on why it would hold value for you. I can just answer for myself which is the time, effort and quality put into the project. Quilts are nothing compared to that of a manufactured product. The quilts I own have been passed down to me and I grew up with them everyday of my life. It will hold it's value through time to people that care about it.

Crypto Quilts as a business intents to be a non-profit (besides donations) with 100% of proceeds going to the quilters. The intent is to give both the buyer and seller value. Not everyone is going to fall in love with a quilt. However, those who do have options.

Edit: I hope I answered your question. Did not intend to come across wrong with my answer.

I really liked the idea of handmade quilts, especially with crypto art for cryptonians! I see the first quilt was sold for around $1k. Is it because that design won't be repeated (unique) or because there was some bidding system?

The average handmade quilt at that size (58'x58') would retail between $800-1500. The bitcoin quilt price had nothing to do with the design being unique (besides being applicable to the market) it was based off material and time. There was no bidding system as no bids were placed on the original action. The offer and sale took place after the Auction closed.

For the record if a similar Bitcoin quilt was commissioned or Bitcoin Quilt #2 was made there would be 0% chance it would be the same. Handmade quilts for the most part are always 100% unique because its based off available materials, block placement etc. Most quilters never repeat projects as they are trying different material, processes and designs.

To give some insight about one of the quilters who worked on this project (part of the quilt guild) she sells quilts for a living at $2,000-$5,000 (1-2 months of work). The biggest misconception about quilts is the time and effort that goes into these projects. They are not like traditional manufactured items and most quilters don't even get minimum wage out of a quilt project and most have decades of experience.

I've messaged the buyer and will leave it up to him if he wants to comment. The buyer and I never really discussed the purchase being private, but will let him comment if he seems fit. The quilt is still in transit.

Well, I shall be waiting with baited breath. Even if you could elaborate a bit more on the situation that would be helpful; did they contact you during or after the auction and was it through PM? Are you willing to disclose the price that was paid for the quilt?

Since it is still in transit, I imagine they will have little to say about it as of yet, because it's rather hard to review something you haven't received. That being said, even having confirmation from someone that they have paid for it would be nice. I'll also assume that the buyer contacted you after the auction, since it is still in transit it would have been relatively recent. Unless they are located quite far away, either way I would love whatever clarification you are comfortable with providing. I've been following since the first quilt was being stitched, so it feels weird to end it with a big question mark.

I kept up with the auction and I was unable to locate anyone that placed a bid, or made any indication that they were planning to purchase the quilt. I am wondering if they have requested privacy, or is this something that you could make publicly known? I am very interested in speaking with the person that purchased the first quilt to get a better indication of the quality and their satisfaction with the purchase. Their review and feedback would go a long way towards legitimizing your business around here, in my opinion. Since the last update of the thread was "Auction closed. No bids." it has me scratching my head what happened between then and now.

Let me know if this can be arranged, because as I've mentioned previously I very well might be interested in a custom project once the Bitcoin price treats me right.

Hello all,

I'm excited to announce the creation of Crypto Quilts after the successful sale of the first Bitcoin Quilt. Offering a unique custom quilts with cryptocurrency with free shipping worldwide.

Website: https://www.cryptoquilts.org

Description:

Crypto Quilts was founded in 2018 with the premise of creating recognition for quilters and their quilts.
The idea of creating the first Bitcoin quilt came from working with a local quilt guild.
The entire process from designing to the finished project was in the hands of the quilters.

The sad truth is quilts are slowly becoming unappreciated in a throw away society.
We want to change that by spreading awareness and sharing appreciation for quilts.

100% of proceeds go directly to the quilter and guild.
Crypto Quilts as a company takes no profits and pays out of pocket for all shipping costs.
This is possible by using the power of decentralization and cryptocurrency.

Follow our story and the quilt process @CryptoQuilts.
