Just a status update for all those of you who are following this thread. We are planning a transformer upgrade sometime next month if all the chips fall into place. Thus we'll have more hosting capacity!

Scroll a few posts up, there are some pics there.

The only pictures are in the post I already replied to which said you would post more pictures when you returned from vacation. Those are the pictures I was asking about.

Quote
For now there are no new pics as we're still working on the entire setup. There are new racks to be installed, new gear to be arranged, and more exhaust blowers to be installed. Once it's all cleaned up and more "neat" I'll see if I can post more pics.

I thought those pictures you posted before were of earlier work in progress but that you had now opened for business to host for clients? So this is not the case, you are still building the facility now? I apologize for being confused.

When do you expect to complete the work and actually be ready to start hosting customers' equipment?

Do you not see the pics in this post:

https://bitcointalksearch.org/topic/m.12368976

??

No, the facility is ready and we are already hosting customer equipment. It is just that it's not "neatl" organized yet. By that I mean the racks are not in their final location and there are various bits of equipment lying around. Our priority first is adding new gear and expanding, cosmetics later.

I hope you understand me now.

I'll post pics of the inside when I'm back. I'll also add it to the website.

Are you still planning to post these pictures now that you are back from vacation? I am curious to see!

UPDATE:

We now have a UPS shipping box in Montreal. All new customer gear should be sent there. Postal code is: H1S0A5
This should be enough info to calculate shipping costs. Local pickup in Montreal and Toronto is still available so if you live in any of these two cities or around the area (within reason) we will pickup your gear in person.

I understand the Labrador location is "undisclosed".  By chance is there inside pictures that we can check out?

If I sent you a bunch of s3's and their Corsair Tx800's psu [2 s3's per psu]  would you consider that 1000 watt or under?

Some Crypo-Hoster's do not accept c1's, will you accept them?

By the way....if your price is in CAD and we are in the US I at the current exchange rate it seems like we are really paying about $57 USD per 1000w.  Is that correct?

I'll post pics of the inside when I'm back. I'll also add it to the website. Right now the facility is not in its final "neat" form but here are a few pics of the work in progress:

Umm, well the S3s consume 350 watts at the wall so if you're sending us 2 S3s then yeah that's clearly under 1000 watts.

We accept C1s. I don't see any reason why they should be a problem. We will likely keep them bunched together but separated from the non water cooled gear just to be safe Wink

Yes that is correct, you are actually paying $57 USD (or whatever the exchange rate is these days) per 1kw which in my book is an amazing deal! When I used to host in the States I remember paying $90 to $99 USD. So while the USD is strong vs the CAD it's time to take advantage and host with a Canadian miner hosting provider.

P.S. If you have further questions send them to sales [at] cryptoboreas.com  I will try to get my friend in on this thread so he can answer your questions but e-mail is the ideal way to reach us while I am gone.

Upon further consideration we've decided to include the tax in the price. So both foreign and domestic clients will now pay the same price.

So from now on it's $75 CAD - taxes included.

Thank you guys for your input.

Our take on the tax issue in Canada is that the service provider is inherently providing a service within Canada. If the CRA showed up and saw the computers and equipment physically in Canada, they'd declare HST applicable for the service of hosting them. You could try to explain the blockchain, but that would be in the form of a tax appeal through federal court, which would mean hiring a tax specialist lawyer.  While you wait for that process to take a couple of years, they come after you and your clients for back taxes.

I think you're confusing the service you provide with taxation of mining itself. Mining itself can be revenue or a security, and foreigners would be governed by our plethora of tax treaties (with every western country, the Americas, Israel and much of the rest of the world) generally allowing securities and revenue to be taxed in place of residence or transaction. We would always encourage people to speak with their accountant.

"If you sell goods and services to international customers, you are not required to collect GST/HST or PST, provided they take delivery of the goods or services outside of Canada"

http://www.cra-arc.gc.ca/E/pub/gm/b-090/b-090-e.html

"A supply of intangible personal property or a service made in Canada, including supplies made by electronic means, may be relieved of tax under the export provisions of the Act that zero-rate certain supplies of intangible personal property and services made in Canada to a non-resident person."

I will double check again with my friend and do some more research.

Your first quote seems not to apply here, I don't take delivery outside of Canada of the electricity I'm using inside Canada when hosting there.

If I'm hosting a server and not a miner, do I need to pay HST?

The second one is less clear to me and probably needs to be checked with an accountant.

Thanks a lot.

Hi allinvain,

in your OP you say that

Quote
Update: Hosting fee will be $75 CAD + tax per month (per 1kWH) (Only Canadian residents pay tax)

Now, I'm always looking around for a good hosting site and Canada seems to have attractive prices, but since I'm not a Canadian citizen I'm try to ascertain this thing about taxes and foreigners.

I've read most of this:

http://www.cra-arc.gc.ca/E/pub/gp/rc4027/rc4027-13e.pdf

without finding a clear exemption (btw, I'm not a lawyer nor an accountant) and I've also been told that there is no provision inside Canadian Law  (Excise or Income tax) that exempts foreigners from paying VAT/HST.

Do you have a direct reference to some law or whatever?

I'd like not to find out one day that the Canadian Government is looking for me... Smiley

Thanks.
