Even in social medias, cryptocurrency is being recognized by a lot of people, but the problem is more countries do not like crypto and starting to ban it and causing for the market to go down.
Cryptocurrency is gaining global recognition and is becoming the secondary currency of many people around the world today, bitcoin in particular have gone almost to 2-3% of the world population is now aware and using bitcoin the technology is gradually replacing our traditional currency due to it eas of doing business and transactions.
If cryptocurrency is not hindered by different governments then we can achieve massive adoption on a global scale. Once it is adopted by different nations it will start to grow in the short period of time, but to start it is important to educate people on how it works.

Cryptocurrency is really getting popular around the globe, so i think there are chances that more people will put theur saving in crypto and i think only 50% or more people who knew or have knowledge about cryptocurrency because from the advertisements that they see in the social media like Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, and etc. 
All people around the world know the term "Crypto" but only those who have access on the internet. One example of its popularity is here in the forum we have 2134525 total members around the globe. Sometimes due to its popularity crypto term is being distracted by scammers, they use crypto to scam that is why few people doesn't know about crypto as a legit and good for everyone.
If they want to cheat in my opinion they must know and learn more about the crypto world to produce a real thing to deceive everyone who is trapped. If they don't know about Cypo maybe they can't be as smart as that to fool many people.

If we talk in percentage terms, about 1% of all whom I know have heard about cryptocurrencies.To spread information about cryptocurrencies you need to talk about them. Just for those who know what it is to tell all your friends and relatives and relatives. crypto is now well known to many people but not in good terms because currently crypto is being bearish every person who knows crypto is afraid to enter it.I think to introduce crypto and invite them to investwill take a long time.

But this is already a good improvement because if we look on before , there were only few countries that accept bitcoin but now there are now over 100's of them and i believe that sooner or later other few 10 will unite and join the movement in order for the crypto to become the first global currency ever invented on a human history .
I am prefer think bitcoin will be internet current. Hard to replace fiat money with bitcoin because bankers still control our economic system and bankers must be fight when their bussiness disrupted.
