World's First Crowd Owned Cryptocurrency Exchange
Why do we need to look for a dead exchange? I think it's a waste of time. We have many working and reliable exchanges, why should we look for those who have already died?

- What exchanges are missing? (we only list the ones that have closed down during the last 18 months, i.e. from October 2017 and forward)
After a quick google search, I noticed that you're missing a few:

- Urdubit: A pakistani exchange that shut down last year.

- MapleChange: Canadian exchange that was hacked (some people say they pulled an exit scam) last year.

- Coindelta: Indian exchange that shut down last month due to pressure from the govt.

- Cubits: crypto exchange from UK that shut down last year.

I didn't do a thorough search so maybe I'm missing a few more, who knows, so you might wanna update the list.

Hi again tomahawk9,

All of the above are now added to the list! Smiley Thanks again!

I don't see the point of this limitation, your page is pretty useless if its going to keep removing entries older than 18 months...

Otherwise it would have been an interesting resource.

Thanks Artmeis3! We won't remove entries older than 18 months, we just made 18 months our initial scope. However, as many Bitcointalkers have suggested that we should remove the 18month-limit and have a list that is unlimited in time instead we are currently working on that. Smiley

i see that QuadrigaCX in this graveyard considered as hacked?
but as i know that QuadrigaCX is closing because the owner of the exchange died and until there is no one know how to access all the fund he holds
Thanks feryjhie! You're right, to be perfectly correct it wasn't hacked. We did however think that when creating shut down-categories, the "owner died and had the private keys" was a bit too specific. So we were a bit lazy on Quadriga and categorized them as hacked. Good looking out though! Smiley

interesting how? I dont see the point of such a graveyard list.. someone please let me know..

To learn.

Which is why this 18 month limit makes no sense at all. Many of the saddest, silliest and juiciest stories are from ancient history.

Also some like Bter have come back with different names. Quite often people seem totally unaware of a resurrected exchange's previous.

I would suggest that you would add more reliable information because some exchanges on the list aren't just dead but hacked. Anyway, this service would still be helpful but there are just missing information that you have to show to avoid confusions.

Nothing lasts forever
Dear Bitcointalkers,

We have prepared a list of dead cryptocurrency exchanges. A way of remembering the exchanges that screwed us over, but also remembering the ones that were forced to close down due to government regulations etc. It is available here: https://www.cryptowisser.com/exchange-graveyard/

We now kindly ask you for your help.

- What exchanges are missing? (we only list the ones that have closed down during the last 18 months, i.e. from October 2017 and forward)
- Are any of the exchanges not dead/down (but simply inaccessible for us here at Cryptowisser for some reason)
- Any "cause of death" incorrect? In particular the MIAs might have to be explored further.
- Any "time of death" incorrect?

We are so much looking forward to making this list a go to-place for people who want to pay tributes to the ones we have lost! Smiley

THANK YOU!

All the best,
Cryptowisser
You didn't say that you are also gonna list those exchanges which have got hacked. Although you are stating the reason there, people might still get confused.
For example: Cryptopia did got hacked but it has not been shutdown "yet" . In fact it is recovering the wallets and I have myself made a BTC withdrawal from Cryptopia a few days ago.

So you either consider mentioning "Hacked" exchanges too in the website which will then make the list longer or just remove all the hacked exchanges from the list which will make the list shorter.

Why only those that have passed away in the last 18 months? There's a lot to be learnt from the older ones and in the last 18 months most reasons will be boring ones like going broke.

It may be a herculean task but you only have to do it once and it could become a useful resource. The most memorable ones are the long gone ones.

cryptopia is still a working exchange and things seems to really be going OK although they might require one or two updates in order to compete with other exchange around i will say they have been around for some time now and the way things are going they have a solid foundation to move forward hopefully

As you are focusing on a list of dead/down exchange site along with some other information such as the reason and the date, I do not think it is needed to put the information about their trading fees and deposit method. Why? Simply because it is useless information imho, usually that kind of information is needed by users who are looking for exchange as alternative. Just my opinion..

Thanks Bitinity for your feedback. You might be right on this one, we'll definitely consider it. The reason to include it was that we wanted to see if any connection between fees and deaths could be established, at least for the ones that had shut down voluntarily. Thanks again for the feedback!

One more suggestion, I think you should add a valid source to support the reason of the death. For example, give a link to the valid news that the exchange was hacked. I think it will be useful for the readers to know the valid news of it.

i see that QuadrigaCX in this graveyard considered as hacked?
but as i know that QuadrigaCX is closing because the owner of the exchange died and until there is no one know how to access all the fund he holds

The news is indeed about the death of the owner but as far as I know, there is no valid proof of the death unless I miss an update news about this exchange.

฿itcoin for all, All for ฿itcoin.
For historical purposes, that's a good list up there OP.  Grin
We have more that are yet to join the grave yard. 2018 and early this year was a time when so many scam exchanges opened up.

I think it's helpful especially for those who have just started doing trading. It could serve as a warning for new traders.
However, I have noticed Cryptopia is included in the list.
I have read in a thread that it's still working. Are you sure about your data about this exchange?
I wish that you could also make a list of dead coins that are still listed in exchanges.

Cryptopia can't be considered as "DEAD". At least, for now.

Although they are having a slow progress, they now at least made some actions.

As far as the latest update is concern, they now enabled BTC,LTC,DOGE deposit and withdrawals, although until 25th, we don't know if someone will make a successful withdrawal.

This case is currently on progress so I think you need to modified the status of Cryptopia or delete it for now.

Very helpful feedback, thank you. We will definitely consider removing them from the list.
