I may not call the current situation "miserable" still it is a down time but the good the good thing is bitcoin is proving its capability to stay above $40k levels which is a good thing that we need to consider for speculating about the upcoming trend of bitcoin market. I am sure sideways market is not a worrying sign to assume about the condition as miserable. We need to be patience by making use of dips to get ready for the bullish markets of 2022. Yes, we are going to have new ATH in this year and preparing for that will get anyone decent profits.

Yeah, who wouldn't forget that, specially in my case because that's the first time I have experienced a bull run and everything is preaching that bitcoin will not go below $10k. But the price goes down hard in the first quarter of 2018 and the rest is history.

It's because of the hype still in some altcoins, NFT's and some other meme coins still dominating the altcoin market so far. But if the hype is gone then maybe we might see signs of bearish trend in the altcoin market.
No this is not always the case. A year ago was very bullish and most people assumed it would be bearish because 2020 like 2017 was a good year for Bitcoin and many made profits, hence they waited until new year to sell for new tax year.
So we assumed this was a good indicator but obviously it’s not the case every year. It’s hard to say how the year will go. Bitcoin is highly correlated with the stock market right now and the markets are scared of all the rate hikes this year. However this is mostly priced in. So no one knows what the future will hold.

You know what's positive? Bitcoin had a really strong resistance that it didn't fall below $40,000 when everyone is expecting the bearish trend that might bring Bitcoin back to $30k or $20k level.

Personally I cannot see how a price above 40k can be considered to be bad for bitcoin, that is more than twice the previous ATH reached in 2017, bitcoin is doing fine, it is impossible that an asset grows every single day, there must be some corrections along the way and that is what we are experimenting, to me this is not something worth worrying about, and if they are, then if the price goes down even more then it could become almost impossible for those people to keep holding their coins. Recovery could still happen, we are inside the first 3 weeks of the whole year, we have 49 more weeks to come. Do not be hopeless about the crypto prices this quickly. I get that it doesn't look great right now, but we all know how quick and volatile prices could be. This doesn't mean that it will be a great year, we could still go under 20k and have a horrible year and fail to go above 20k for rest of the year, who knows? However, the same could be said for going up as well, how could we be so sure that we won't be 70k+ and do not go under 70k+ for the rest of the year? I would say this is the case every single year, last week of the year and beginning of the year has always been bearish but I don't think we need to worry much because bitcoin has found stability around $40k and we have to worry only if bitcoin drop further and unable to touch $40k mark for over a week. We may or may not experience bull run like last time but definitely we will see gradual improvement if bitcoin manages to stay above $40k for a while.
