Latest episode of 'Blindspot' (season 5, episode 2) had another guest appearance by Bill Nye and his character in the show said they weren't concerned about money problems as they still had some Bitcoin.  Nice to see it mentioned in that context and not like they have in previous episodes where it was always some shady darknet hacker thing.

Not the first thread, but to sum up most threads I've seen:

- The Simpsons among earliest popular shows
- Dope probably first movie with bitcoin quite central to the plot
- and this gem from my local film scene called "Special Force" has the guy keeping all his stash in bitcoin... in a suitcase. Clip on FB taken down oh well.

I couldn't care if any of the portrayals are accurate. We still have films saying "uploading to my phone" or "downloading to you" all the time. People don't care;)

There are already some stereotypes about cryptocurrency in society. So do not be surprised by this.

Some of them are actually filled with sarcasm when they mentioned cryptocurrency on the series. I have watched several of them although they promote crypto, its not mentioning Bitcoin itself. And some are even discussing it for laundering and scam. That dollycoin itself seems to mock the crypto for it just produce something that all in crypto are scams.
I became interested in watching it. Thank you for giving a review.
If that is the case, fortunately, the South Korean government has developed legislation regarding the use of cryptocurrency in a transparent manner, to protect investors and prevent illegal actions such as money laundering. It can also educate the public that there are bad illegal things like that.

This is a really strange ad. But in any case, it shows that crypto is gaining popularity. This is good news.

I wish there was a way those of us outside of S Korea could watch it?
Have you tried Netflix? This is the most legal way to watch this kind of series. For more information about the website. Visit this link https://www.netflix.com/ph/. However, Netflix is still not available in the following countries such as China, North Korea and Syria.

Nope, what the heck is Netflix?! ( So you clearly aren't aware Netflix programming is region specific ).

Edit- I'm surprised to see I was able to find it on my Netflix.  Still, my point stands. A lot of what my Euro buddies have I don't.  Didn't think there was a chance this would be available to U.S. based customers.

I have watched that series and I can say, it's really worthy to watch though it doesn't really focus on cryptocurrency or some online scams.

After seeing that scene, I really got mad at his father for stealing his hard-earned money and invested it in a cryptocurrency without knowing much about it. And in the end, the money he earned lost in just a snap. It's really frustrating!

But about this being shown in the scene or even some similar things in other movies, they often use crypto when there is a scam related scene. It's kinda sad that it is often used like that in movies and it can bring a negative image on crypto. People might think that crypto-related investments are all scams. If it's a small scene about crypto, it won't matter. But movie tackling about online scams and crypto movies and only showing the negative side of it, it's no good for the image of crypto. Btw, there are more movies involving crypto.

I haven't watched about that Tv series but It's good to see a TV series or movie related to bitcoin or another cryptocurrency because it only shows they are interested in bitcoin and they know the benefits of using in their country. Having a series of bitcoin will also be a way for everyone to promote bitcoin especially if the TV series or movies are showing what cryptocurrency can do.

If there are more tv series about bitcoin that has a language of English I will watch it, I hope there would be a country that will go to create a movie about the coin with the English language. Bitcoin is now being prominent and known all over the world and it sounds so good for everyone here.

I think it is not quite normal if we can see a lot of cryptocurrencies and especially a bitcoin in a movie because in reality, we use this coins to make the payment of a transaction and if we are talking about the bitcoin we commonly identify this is a kind of payment into the dark web and darknet that we see on the movies that are more on technology, hacking, systems, and business, in reality, we usually do this but in a good way because some of the physical store and online payment already adopted the use of the crypto as payment because we can skip having a transaction fee, less tax and faster. Also, we can monitor all of the transactions we have if you want too we have ledger to monitor our sending of transactions to make easier transactions.

This is one odd sounding movie/television show but personally I think any publicity is good publicity for bitcoin at this point.  ( a good example is wikileaks and silk road.  Satoshi was not happy about bitcoins connection with wikileaks but it did up bringing a whole lot of attention to bitcoin.  Same goes for silk road.  Sure an online drug emporium isn't a great look for bitcoin, but some argue if it had never happened, bitcoin may not be anywhere close to where it is today).

I wish there was a way those of us outside of S Korea could watch it?

This is a good mini advertisement and promotion about bitcoin, that short span of time presenting the bitcoin will make people notice that it is existing. Some people are not that knowledgeable about cryptocurrency, this will make a way for a mass adoption of bitcoin in South Korea. Especially, to those people who are interested in investing a cryptocurrency but they're afraid and they lack of knowledge about that.

Seems that it is hard to get that movie. And it would be hard to watch if there's no English subtitle. But anyway, if SKoreans will watch it, they may have idea what crypto is especially those who are still non crypto users. I guess it is good on crypto, raise awareness about its existence.

Most of the movies have subtitles because they are mostly watched internationally. There is always an English subtitle in every movies because that's a universal language and people have rights to watch movies no matter what country that movie originated. We need more movies that promotes bitcoin so that we improve and develop mass adoption more.

It is a good movement of advertising too because if most of the time the people saw that kind of advertisement we are now getting curious what is the cryptocurrency really is and then there is a mass adoption which is good because they can now make a lot of people buying the crypto for making investments.

So many threads popping up these days regarding BTC advertising in TV shows and movies.

Example: https://bitcointalksearch.org/topic/bitcoin-was-mentioned-in-the-tv-show-billions-5245978

This isn't something new op. BTC and crypto in general are mentioned in a negative way majority of the time(Dark web etc) in these shows and movies. The positives about crypto are highlighted now and then in shows like Billions, but a lot more advertising is required to help BTC achieve mainstream popularity.

no mate i havent see many of them but threads like this are rare although i see one before   but i dont consider it new but yeah most of them are being showned in a bad way  . it makes us feel bad when we saw it on the actual tv scene but for something that is new on btc , they could have taken it too serious  which is alarming  .  positives of cryptos are only highlited on the web or on this forum    . also btc is already on the mainstream but only rare to see them on local tv  .

Its an increasing phenomenon among tv shows. Probably the most significant series that Bitcoin was mentioned have been "Mr Robot", and "House Of Cards". Bitcoin has reached most of the worlds radar now, and almost everyone is somewhat aware of it. The unfortunate truth is that not even close to half of the people who have heard about it, understand it. That's always been the biggest obstacle of Bitcoin, making it simplistic, and not confusing to all generations, and all types of people.

Bitcoin has had the news coverage; Good, and bad. It has the infrastructure, dedicated developers, and a fantastic community. However, its still far too complex to understand. Fiat currency is just as complicated, but at a consumer level its rather simple to understand, and that's the difference. Bitcoin has added complexities such as the up, and coming halving event, variable transaction fees, and confirmations from being included in a block. These are alien concepts which will either take a long time to understand, or as a community we need to push to make Bitcoin simpler on a consumer level.

Compared to a few years ago, Bitcoin is much more simpler to use, and there's far more information out there. However, we are still a long way off in terms of fiat understanding.

We really need more of this, more promotion, more advertisements using broadcast media or any type of media. This will help us to explain and let people comprehend the values and advantages of bitcoin to our economy and community. Probably, people have an idea about bitcoin but they don't know how it works, that's why we need them to become interested about it and let them engaged on the cryptocurrency world. This platform like movies or any thing that can be watched through electronics are good because our technology is consistently advancing and we can now make people have an idea to crypocurrency easily. It's still a long way to go for people to really understand and adopt cryptocurrency into economy.

I did it watch it sometimes in The Simpsons.

I can't completely remember but some of my nieces are watching Rick and Morty and I kind of heard something related to it. There are also some movies that also talked about Bitcoin and cryptocurrencies, and then we have a movie titled Crypto.

I think its good for the entire cryptocurrency industry because it's a kind of promotional tool so that many people will know about the existence of the cryptocurrency particularly the Bitcoin to serve as an alternative form of decentralized money. On the other aspect, Bitcoin's popularity has ever-growing in our time, especially in this kind of situation that there were lockdowns everywhere due to the COVID-19 pandemic people are confined at homes using the internet to find any income-generating alternatives and they found Bitcoin and starting to ask questions about it.

Bitcoin has been into tv shows being mentioned by characters. The feedback of the viewers will depend on the portrayal of the show.

Just like what I've watched last night with an old documentary of Vice about hacking and ransomware, the police told that the hackers were asking for bitcoin and he didn't even know what it is.

There are many movies that have appeared on the internet about the crypto market. Many of these films discuss crypto as a fraudulent means of enrichment or as an illegal activity. I do not understand why the reputation of this market is being destroyed, but crypto should be discussed in a realistic way. I would prefer to see more documentaries about crypto in which to discuss real aspects of cryptocurrency.

I haven't watched the series yet but I think I can say by that picture that they are portraying the majority of the cryptocurrency out there, a lot of scams and frauds, just like dine-and-dash. Though it's still a publicity, it would be great if they did include the top cryptocurrencies like Bitcoin but if they only include all the scams out there, it's of course negative publicity especially to newbies.
