Holy christing mother of fuck, that's a shitty thing to do.  Seriously, as a community we need to vet who runs these exchanges so as to avoid debacles like this.  Exchange owners should not be able to take the money and run.

The vetting was done by John Hammes aka BitJohn pretending to be in an Army office located in an Afghanistan war zone, but was really living in North Carolina out of the service for years with his wife Faith and daughter.

OMG. Here is an article from Coindesk on the divorce. Looks like there was an injunction served on Cryptsy and he fled to china to make a new life with all the coins.

Crypto is the separation of Power and State.
Just crazy. WOW

These are the approximate figures taken:
Bitcoin:  13,000 BTC (5.4 million USD at time of this post)
Litecoin:  300,000 LTC (1 million USD at time of this post)

Darkcoin:  456,501 DASH (1.7 million USD at time of this post)

Don't feel sorry for them, they deserve it after

1. white knighting for Cryptsy while many others were trying to sound the alarm and warn people

2. attacking Poloniex, the exchange that disclosed a theft but earned back the money and repaid everyone

3. refusing to stop putting their trust into individuals like BigVern and Evan Daftfield.

Getting burned to a crisp is the only way those people will learn.

Yep. It's all over. Vern should get ready to be interviewed by law enforcement. He didn't even report the coins stolen a year and a half ago.

Congratz to everyone that got coins out and to the jokers that stayed with Cryptsy and just got burned, all I can say is: "Darwinism in action..."

Voted. This is a big debacle if there ever was one before. Could it turn out worst then mtgox once the lawyers are done with them?

He lost a home to foreclosure a few years back too. This guy has obviously made some questionable financial decisions in the past.

On a more positive front, it looks like the Silver Law Group has filed a class action against Cryptsy. So if you ave funds trapped in Cryptsy and want to get on board, you should give Dan & Dave Silver a call.

BTW, if anyone is looking for a lawyer to get trapped coins out of cryptsy, this lawyer has had success getting them to pay in the past:
Got an email back from David Silvers from Sliver Law in Florida. They were the lawyers that sued Cryptsy recently. Anyway, it sounds like he's getting alot of business from Cryptsy these days.

Here's his info if you want a lawyer who has been successful in getting Cryptsy to pay:

Well, maybe there were funds in reserve.

Just when you thought it couldn't get any worse.

Somebody needs to spend a few years in a Mexican prison over this debacle.

My guess is that cold wallets are not being used to replenish funds. Once the funds in the hot wallets are depleted withdrawals have to wait until there are more coins available from trades or deposits.

The reason funds are not being replenished from cold wallets could have something to due with them being considered assets in the divorce. The company was most likely not set up to correctly to protect those funds from such things.

Ummm... trading doesn't do anything to the amount of coin in their wallets... only deposits and withdrawals...

But it's the balance. I'd think cash flow can be very complicated at an exchange, especially when reserves are frozen.

I'm not defending these clowns. It's a tragic comedy and the antics of the last few months deserve severe repercussions, but look at what we have here.

It began with the spike in BTC. BTC was being pulled out of orders and withdrawn. There was one big one, like 70 or 80 BTC that was pretty well known, and lots of smaller ones that were "delayed", but smaller ones processed. Then as people started withdrawing major alts and go figure, withdrawals of major coins started to slow.

There has never been a problem with DGC withdrawals and the price of DGC has gotten to almost double the price at BTC38 and Bittrex because it's easy to withdraw and lots of folks have been willing to take the loss and get whatever they can out of the exchange.

Point is, the divorce filing proves there are funds in reserve.

The way this is being handled is a joke, and should be a lesson/reminder to all of us, but I wish Paul Vernon would just put out some information and let people know what's going on. Then maybe jump off a cliff or something.
