Once upon a time I worked for a woman that was getting divorced from her husband. They had quite an estate, worth a few million or so..
Anyway the main oil rig company they owned wasn't doing so well and maybe going bankrupt.

She was awarded half of whatever or whatever and put liens against all the properties in his name or however it went and pretty much she had her leans on everything first so it kindof saved all the assets from forfeiture I think..
I do not think that example was done on purpose..

But, could there be some scheme like that going on here? Mintsy did GOX just recently no?

My guess is that cold wallets are not being used to replenish funds. Once the funds in the hot wallets are depleted withdrawals have to wait until there are more coins available from trades or deposits.

The reason funds are not being replenished from cold wallets could have something to due with them being considered assets in the divorce. The company was most likely not set up to correctly to protect those funds from such things.

Ummm... trading doesn't do anything to the amount of coin in their wallets... only deposits and withdrawals...

This is an explanation that makes sense. And go figure, it's not some multinational conspiracy, just a simple divorce and frozen assets imposed by the wife.

So what does this mean for the future of Cryptsy?

TT

First question is how can one person freeze the assets?  Answered by how the company was organized...

That leads to a follow up question... how can anyone trust a monetary exchange not set up to protect it's client's coin deposits?

So that leads to the answer... it will die a death that it deserves.

There is really little to no good reason to get legally married. If possible two people should consider a union or marriage outside of the legal system. There is information on the internet that detail how this is done. Some go as far as considering a "legal" marriage going against the commandment of "Thou shalt have no other gods before me".

here in Australia though it makes little difference once you've been living with your partner for a year (or some similar period not 100% sure the length), similar rules apply as to the married, defacto relationships here get registered and are treated similar to marriage.

(gov prefers it that way as we are a wealthfare state ie a way to reduce the wealthfare payouts)

Same true in Alabama - six months. Wait, no wonder she left me after 5 1/2 months while living in Florence. Damn, I miss her pussy, fuckin' slut!

Thankfully California did away with common law marriage a while ago...stopped having to kick out the GF every 6 months only to move them back in later Wink

"Due to New Year holiday in China, support for https://www.bitebi9.com/ may be slower than what we consider normal. We will maintain a skeleton crew 24/7 whose sole purpose will be to ban those inquiring about anything related to anything we deem not worth talking about. See you in about a month or so when the banning brigade will be joined up once again with the full support team you've come to love. Happy holidays!"

That concept is borrowed from English common law. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Common-law_marriage

Marriage is a bad idea. In the US, the only reasons to do it are:

1. You need a visa
2. You or your partner is very sick and marriage achieve access to some sort of health insurance coverage
3. Your partner is wealthy, he/she is on the verge of dying, and you can avoid inheritance taxes by being married (This is called the "One foot in the grave and the other on a banana peel scenario".)
4. You've committed a major crime and your partner can be excused from testifying against you
5. Your partner is on the verge of dying and you can collect their social security benefits
6. You desire the ability to sue someone for possible wrongful death of your partner (the ethics of getting married for this reason are a bit questionable since you kind of have to know that they are going to die soon and that it could involve negligence)
7. You desire to make medical decisions for your partner int he event that they are sick and hospitalized
8. You wish to adopt a child. For example, maybe you are starting some sort of factory and you need workers with small hands that fit easily between the gears.

You have #2 backwards. The reason happily married people are getting divorce - so to afford healthcare for the very sick counterpart.

EDIT:

9. You want to piss off an ex-girlfriend who turned down a previous proposal and now you happen to be dating her sister/best friend/mother/brother/whatever.

If you have any amount of wealth or assets you should absolutely not consider entering a legal marriage unless the other party has an equal amount of wealth/assets. Even if things are equal going into a legal marriage during the course of the marriage one party may start to have greater earnings than the other thus skewing the relationship financially. This can be considered an incentive to the lesser earning party to dissolve the union but continue to receive a financial benefit.

Benefits of a legal marriage are:

Social Security survivorship
(...and that's all I can think of!)

You're forgetting slightly lower taxes (most countries) and, if your other is in the country illegally or not under otherwise permanent residence status, easier ways of sticking around...

"Your Honor, you had to be there to believe it. Paul handed me this giant dildo and forced me to stick it up Jim Shockney's ass. I don't know about you, Your Honor, but when I have ten dildos stuck up my ass, the eleventh one NEVER fits. I kindly asked Paul if I can withdraw just one dildo, whereupon he banned me from OUR bedroom for 24 hours, leaving him, Jim and Ginny to do who-knows-what, while I had to manually please myself with our pet gerbils."

Crypto is the separation of Power and State.

OMG, I would watch the hell out of Crypto Divorce Court!

Relevant xpost:

in the event of bankruptcy of an financial institution

ALL CUSTOMER'S DEPOSITS BELONG TO CREDITORS

Yes, that is true.

When a firm is bankrupt, they cannot legally give preference to some creditors over others.  That's for a court to decide.

But we've seen at least one significant potential case of such illegal preferential payments, in the case of Otoh the DASH whale.

Otoh may have used his high profile to threaten adverse publicity for Cryptsy in order to be allowed to jump the queue, and get his coins out while lesser non-VIP types were stuck waiting.

That could mean he's going to have to deal with clawback, and (especially if he resists) legal discovery.

If this gets pulled into BigFraud's divorce proceedings, there won't be enough popcorn in the entire universe...

The former Mrs. BigFraud won't want to deal with her ex's and/or Otoh's hundreds of Masternodes, which is why standard procedure is to liquidate (IE market dump) assets and divide the fiat proceeds.

tell me about it... my gold digging step mom tried to steal our family inheritance... luckily we was able to get power of attorney before the hoe stole everything... she changed the will so everything goes to her - assets, business, jewellery, which is the primary reason i will never ever get married

im just comfortable hiring an escort once a month to suit my needs they need to be put in their place its an absolute nightmare and can carry on for decades of legal fees and expenses its just not worth getting married the hoes have too much power it was better when they couldn't vote or dictate our actions but now man has become the submissive and female the alpha

I am sure Verns wife is leaving him because he is a POS human, probably borderline sociopath. Sorry for your experience, but you can't base all women are like the one your Father chose to bring into a family being a poor judge of character or just easily played.
