It's a great game but it's usually over pretty quickly! What do you think about limiting the number of guesses to something like 2 or 3 per user?

That will surely work mate. Limiting the times that a participant can guess will make the game a bit long and other participants that can't guess the correct answer will not be able answer again but it will need more participants to do that. If previous participants guessed wrong and no other participants tried to answer then the round halt until someone gets the right answer since a forum user can only participate twonor three times. The best solution is to prohibit the user who can guess correctly many times for an hours or a day before that user can participate. E,g. Cornia is not allowed to participate yet until tomorrow. In short, give other participants a day ahead. This will increase the number of participants and perhaps make the game last a bit longer
