This is one of what's supposed to be. The greater the number of shops accepting bitcoins, the more information people have. But there is one more important issue. People need to get their salaries as bitcoins. The real awareness will then begin.
It is not enough for the shops to accept bitcoins. People need to have a bitcoin to spend
It is sort of a causal loop, so to speak (see Looper film to get an idea)
In such event loops one event causes another event which is the cause of the first event. In this case, merchants are not widely accepting bitcoins because there are no spenders but spenders are absent because there are no merchants accepting bitcoins. Personally, though, I tend to think that merchants (and producers, for that matter) should come first, mostly for two reasons. First, if they start accepting bitcoins they are not losing anything since they would just sell their goods for fiat if there is no demand for paying with Bitcoin. Second, goods are first produced and only after having been produced they are sold, thus the producers should apparently act first
