i am now also curious to see whether Gervyn Price's proposal (to hold the upcoming world championships in a different country each year) will be heard by the pdc and perhaps realized - i personally think it would be better, fairer and also more interesting for everyone involved

Peter Wright is new World Champion after beating Michael Smith 7:5. Smith had everything in his hands to win when he was leading 5:4, but again he lost another major final.
Final was really high level, there was impressive 167 or 148 checkouts.
And in general, it was on of the best World Championships in recent years, even despite that some players were removed because of Covid.

I am happy that Wright won but Smith had his chances. But, it is as Wright also stated in his interview, in the next couple of years the chances that Smith will become the world title if he continues to play like this are high.
There were good matches but it is a pity that several top players needed to drop out of the tournament for Covid (Van Gerwen, Chisnall, ...).

I have watched the final too yesterday evening (thank god for my last holiday today). First I thought Michael Smith is going to win this final but Peter Wright in the end had the better nerves.
Congrats!

Smith set a new 180 record in a world championship final. he threw the 72nd maximum and so overtook Gary Anderson who threw 71 times 180 in 2017.

Score is funny, check is money Wink

i watched the final and thought Michael Smith was a bit stronger until 5-4 ... but then Peter Wright attacked back and won 3 sets in a row.

So, tomorrow is the big day, final between Smith and Wright. Whos is your favorite?

Michael Smith has gained a lot of confidence after his win against world champion Gerwyn Price, which you could see in his semifinal match against James Wade yesterday.
for me Peter Wright is the favorite for the title but i hope MS will be the new champion Wink

Semifinal between Wright and Andersen was epic. Can't remember did I ever saw so many 180 throwns. Wright 24 180 throwns achieved record of World Championship. He advanced to final by winning match 6:4.
In other semifinal Michael Smith won against James Wade quite confident.

Both games on evening session were really impressive. Youngster Callan Rydz gave very good fight to Peter Wright. This match ended 5:4 and Wright reached semifinal.
Gervyn Price made first career 9-darter on TV tournament. Such things is very rare on late stages of tournaments. But it wasn't enough and he lost to Smith 4:5.

I am quite happy that Smith won against Price to reach the semi final; if he can continue like this he can probably reach the final again. Price is a special character and clearly not really loved by the audience. Last year it was a lot easier for him as there was no crowd.

today in the afternoon session both two-time pdc world champion Gary Anderson and top player James Wade progressed to this year's semifinals. "the machine", as J. Wade is known, won clearly 5:0 against his compatriot Mervyn King on thi saturday. former champion G. Anderson is also still in the tournament. the scot beat Luke Humphries from england 5:2 in the second match of the day.

Damn, sad to read about van Gerwen. Seems that goal of this tournament isn't to beat your opponent but simply don't get infected.
Gary Anderson made amazing comeback against Ian White. He lost first 3 sets, but managed to win match 4:3. Seems that White failed to handle pressure and made some big mistakes.
Gerwyn Price had slow start, but won match in very confident way 4:1.
Now Clayton - Smith game is in action. Should be most interesting match tonight.

Nice comeback from Anderson but White could and should have won this match when he was 3-0 up. The match between Clayton and Smith was also a good one, but what a strange mistake of Clayton on the end...
Too bad he is out as he was an outsider for the title.

Luke Humphries is in the 1/4-finals and in yesterday's match against Chris Dobey they gave each other nothing at all in a world class match. two-time pdc world champion Gary Anderson (2015 and 2016) is also in the last eight. in the duel of two former champions the scot defeated 2018 winner Rob Cross from england with 4:3.

and it continues with the covid-19 infections.... Undecided
Michael van Gerwen tested positive for the coronavirus yesterday at the darts world championship and has to tick off his fourth title early. the 32-yo dutchman was eliminated by his positive result from the most important and highest endowed tournament of the world. Van Gerwen's opponent Chris Dobey from england will now receive a free ticket for the match in the third round and moves directly into the 1/8-finals

Yeah it is too bad that one of the favorites is out because of the coronavirus. I didn't think that Van Gerwen could win, this season is not his best, but it is a shame to see him leave the tournament in this kind of way.
Anyone saw the match of Price vs Huybrechts? Tense match with some frustations on both sides; but if Huybrechts had a better double percentage he could probably have won the match.

Where is this going with the tournament? After van gerwen, Chisnall has already also withdrawn from the World Darts Championship. Price himself wanted to propose to postpone the tournament after another period, but of course that is not possible because of the commercialization and all tickets sold. This way there are very few players left. Too bad, especially that van Gerwen is out because of Corona.

This match becomes senseless with all this covid shit. The real competetion in the London 2022 PDC match is not to become infected by the virus!
In the meantime they can rename the tour to "last man standing" Undecided

the dutchman Vincent van der Voort has tested positive for the coronavirus at the pdc world darts championship in london. this was announced by the world federation pdc on monday afternoon.
so his english opponent James Wade gets a free ticket and moves directly into the 1/8-finals.

I don't think this will be the last positive case... Just read the news that Cross still can participate in the tournament if he presents a negative test.

Van Barneveld is no longer the player he used to be in his glory years. Still, that first set he threw was of a high standard. He also missed many doubles to throw out legs. Too bad, because he had been looking forward to the World Cup all year. Another chance next year. I don't think Cross will win the tournament. Van Gerwen or Price's I guess.

ya.ya.yo!

That's true, but I still like to watch him play. It is also nice to see that he still gets a lot of support from the crowd. He can still play on a high level, but there is also a lot more competition than before.
