I did an Instant Payout at 10:09 Central time -- STILL waiting for a confirmation! What's going on?

Here's the scary part -- after almost TWELVE HOURS without a confirmation, this is what BlockExplorer thinks of the transaction:

No such transaction

Is my 1.02 BTC just gone?

I think many people would switch pools and/or stop mining if losing a whole BTC was that easy.

Same.  I did a payout of 1.01 @ 10AM Central.  Zero confirmations after like 12 hours.  Never had it take more than 2hrs before!

+1, Me too

So i took a 3 hr break form mining to see if things would settle down by then. Started my miners back up and still getting connection problems.. Sad Is deepbit getting DDoS'd again along with other pools and websites or is something else going on? What is even the point of DDoS anyways? Is it used to drive down the next difficulty increase? Or just someone or group who hats bitcoins? Does the government ever do shady things like that? Is there any way to trace the attack back to the originator?
Tycho you have any word on when things might be back to normal?
As I said already, today it wasn't a DDoS, we have some problems caused by our software.
Also I said that I'll make some official statement when things will be stable again. But as you can see, I didn't yet.

Currently some interruptions do happen occasionally, that's why I'm recommending poclbm/poclbm-gui over Phoenix. Sadly this kind of problem can't be fixed fast, but we are working on the solution.
I'll post updates when more information will be available and when pool will be stable.

hmm well that is good news i guess. I did see a post form you earlier this morning saying it wasnt a DDoS but since then everyone and there mother have been saying all day that many sites including deepbit are getting DDoS'd and even some very knowledgeable long time members were saying it. Also I am using pclbm-gui and been connected about 1/4 of the time today which is why i am asking since i have lost about .35 BTC already Sad

but i do appreciate you taking the time to respond and it is good to know you are all over it as usual! It is what keeps me at deep.

If its an error , how many times before could it have happened since I dont check every single payout just noticed this and not to impressed with the outcome.
Values in stats table and your balance are calculated separately.
Reward column in stats table is just  your_prop_shares/total_shares*48.5
In this example: 1910 /  1264240 * 48.5 = 0.07327327089793077263810668860343
If lower value is shown then it can only mean that some of your shares weren't Prop.

Im a bit confused, Tycho can you please explain to me how these 2 payouts differ so much ?
14.06 00:27:58   0h 27m    1806    1227061     0.00960466
14.06 00:00:00   0h 29m    1910    1264240     0.07327327
Both of them were on prop and quite similar timeframes, sharesizes and total shares however the payout is exponentially less on the more recent one?
Tycho, can you please respond to this query.
Are you sure that it wasn't PPS ?
PM me your login and i'll check it. Looks strange and the only explanation I can imagine is the PPS.

The problem with unconfirmed transactions is solved.
Usually many of free transactions in the network are confirmed by our pool, but this time they were not included because of accidental settings change during restart.
Don't any of the other large pools confirm them or is just because you put them in deepbit's queue for confirmation, so no other pool does it?  I've always been curious how a particular block get's its transactions to sign [say I send somebody 1 BTC, how is it determine where a confirmation takes place?].
All our payouts are without fee. Standart bitcoin server will include only up to 4 Kb of free TXes per block. Some pool(s) don't include free transactions at all. That's why they are confirmed so slowly when missed by our pool.

Transaction gets the first confirmation when someone includes it in the block.

Deepbit down, all my 5 miners are down, switched pools.

No safe haven right now.  I just shut down mining to save the GPUs from thermal fatigue.  I have no idea how much cycling like that messes with MTBF relative to normal [i.e. My MSI 6970 claims it can run at 100% @ 70C for 12 years on average ... so, I guess at 100% and 70C, the MTBF is 12 years ... but that is constant temp and load  Cry].

EDIT:  I wonder how they determine this since the card hasn't been available for 12 years and many of the components [even the technology to make the small transistors and printed silicon circuit paths in the < 100 nano meter range hasn't been around that long ... engineers and extrapolations :p].

Odd, that almost implies that deepbit is paying with recently mined blocks that are not themselves fully confirmed [120 confirmations].  Is the guy broke?   Shocked
No, you can't send money from unconfirmed block.

I know.  I was making a lame joke I guess hence the "shocked"  Shocked   Wink

Sorry Smiley
