There are 50,000 coins per block forever, my client last saw block number 86178, so (50000*86178) existed when I looked at the client's readout just now.

Bear in mind though that General Financial Corp and the Martians have both made (secured) loans denominated in DeVCoins, which add up to way the heck more, by far, DeVCoins than actually exist or even will, over the next few years, exist. That has to have some influence somewhere along the line even if most debtors pay using other currencies based on the conversion rates listed on the price lists at the time they make a payment.

(GFC owed the Martians 209559292109.76655006 DVC as of last record I have, while as of the block mentioned above there were only 4308900000 DeVCoins in existence. GFC was itself owed 125548331138.37619984 DVC ... It borrowed from the Martians in bulk at one interest rate and re-loaned to people seeking refinancing, charging them twice the interest rate. Since the currencies the people seeking refinancing had had their debts denominated in previously had been climbing in value far faster than DeVCoins, plus in some cases the interest rate charged by GFC was lower than they had been paying, this worked out as a good deal for the debtors as well as for GFC and the Martians. Hmm looking at those figures it looks like GFC owes the Martians double what is owed to it but that is not the case; the amount shown as owed to GFC is the amount owed to them over and above the amount they owe.)

So exactly how many millions or billions of devcoins are in existence right now? Can't seem to find any info on that.

I'd like to know that also...

Coins have been bought up dirt cheap too, someone or a bunch of someones bought many many many millions various times when the price went really low.

I have something like 250 million or so tied up in cold storage backing tokens in my Open Transactions server, and hope over time to tie up more and more that way, since those coins never hit the web-based exchanges hopefully that helps a little pricewise too.

-MarkM-

250 mil. Holy SHIT. I have been broke and struggling for months, and I believe this is what is finally going to get me out of this shit. I can write ALL DAY.

Everyone that's been there for a while is god damn lucky. Ya'll have coins in the multi millions, while we just starting out may get stuck with 500,000 coin shares and less soon...

Hope people don't mind if I tell the whole world about Devcoin soon. I have to work about the 4/20 raly mostly for the next few weeks, but after that my focus will be on publishing and advertising Devcoin. This shit is awesome.

But the less you can get for writing the more each one will be worth Smiley

Well its not like we were keeping it secret, though admittedly when it was really high there was less temptation to tell everyone about it. Smiley

Quick, lets bury those posts with new posts so people who only jump to the end of the thread won't read that part! Smiley Cheesy

lol.

I could see this business model working, even if each share was worth $5.

So how many words is = to 1 share now?
1000 words of original content = 1 generation share, and as far as I know it will always be that way Smiley

Yup.

And what does that mean exactly. Will you always get paid for that share, or you get paid 1 time for it?
You get paid one time - but a share is..

The coins per share is 180 million divided by the number of shares. In round 21 there were 29 shares, so each share was worth 180,000,000 dvc / 29 = 6,206,897 dvc, at the prices of the time that was 500$:
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=34586.msg1640919;topicseen#msg1640919

In round 22 there were 125 receiver lines, so the average generation share was worth 180,000,000 dvc / 125 = 1,440,000 dvc, at the prices of the time that was 198$:
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=34586.msg1815405;topicseen#msg1815405

I don't know how many shares there will be in round 23 until they're calculated, around May 9. Since there are more writers now than there were in round 22, there will almost certainly be more shares. If for example there are 250 shares in round 23, each share would be 180,000,000 dvc / 250 = 720,000 dvc.

While the number of shares varies a lot, their dollar value stays in a narrower range because if the value goes high, many new writers will join, diluting the share in the next round. If the value goes down, some authors won't bother writing, reducing the number of shares next round. Devcoin shares have varied between 50$ and 500$. When the shares were worth 50$, usually only Mark and I wrote. When the shares were worth 500$ in round 21, the next round there were twelve writers.

To a small extent it also works the other way, if a lot of authors write, devtome will be more popular and investors will bid devcoin up a bit.

The value of the share can not be guaranteed, but for the next few months it looks like it will be over 150$.

Dude, your blowing my god damn mind. $50 (has been the) minimum for writing 1000 original words?
You guys will never be alone again. I live there now.

And all my Arrested Development stuff will bring the site traffic, since they air airing a new season after like 5 years break.

In round 23 there were 501 receiver lines, so the average number of devcoins per share is 180,000,000 dvc / 501 = 359,281 dvc, at the prices of the time that was 76$:
https://bitcointalksearch.org/topic/m.2226293

I don't know how many shares there will be in round 24 until they're calculated, around June 10. Since there are more writers now than there were in round 23, there will almost certainly be more shares. If for example there are 900 shares in round 24, each share would be 180,000,000 dvc / 900 = 200,000 dvc.

While the number of shares varies a lot, their dollar value stays in a narrower range because if the value goes high, many new writers will join, diluting the share in the next round. You get paid one time - but a share is approx 1 500 000 DVC which can be from 1.5 to 3 BTC depending on the exchange rate at Vircurex. So it is generous! And there are no limits on how much you can write each month as long as it is of a good quality and your original work.

And how are words turned into shares, and then into DVC? If you have a DVC wallet on your profile there, and you post, should they just appear eventually?

And I heard next checking for word count and payment is in 3 weeks. When does it usually happen, is there a cycle? 4 weeks? A month?

Can anyone answer this quote?

Yes I think more logo bounties is a great idea, and we definitely should have a vote on which logo is to be the "official" one. Should we open a new thread for this?

I suggest once we have fifteen logos, we could have a 0-99 range vote:
http://rangevoting.org/Why99.html

open to all devcoin citizens (people who got generation shares in this round or the previous), to pick the logo for the devcoin-qt and devtome. People could still use whatever logo they chose.

I believe if Devtome really pays like this, it is about to become the new age Wikipedia. Where you get paid to contribute.

I think he means a supplementary site to Devtome.com that has a similar aesthetic to Bitcoin.org or Litecoin.org. Now that .org domain name is no longer used for Devtome I think this would be pretty cool to have a site like bitcoin.org for people who like websites in that kind of style Smiley

YES exactly what i mean. i know devtome. but for users which only want to know some keyfacts of this "fancy new altcoin" its not a good landingpage i think. unfortunatley devcoin.org is taken. is there any way we can get it back?
