What is happening with pool.devcoin.org?

I thought it was supposedly merged mining BTC and NMC as well as DVC, but I still only see DVC in my balance waiting to withdraw. I didn't withdraw yet as I was expecting to see figures for the BTC and NMC portions also show up at some point but I see no sign of them yet?

It might be useful if hacking at the code to plan that there could be umpteen more chains to merged mine too, since bitparking hasn't shown any sign yet of adding to its repertoire. (It already merges more than pool.devcoin.org does though which is why I pointed my hashing power there for now, but I hope to see pools competing on number of alt chains they merge... Would be nice to see GRouPcoin (GRP) included somewhere for example, plus of course Martian BotCoins (MBC), United Kingdom Britcoins (UKB), Canadian DIgital Notes (CDN), CZech Bitcash (CZB), General Mining Corp aka Galactic Mining Corp (GMC), General Retirement Funds aka Galactic Retirement Funds (GRF), [Galactic] United Nations Scrip (UNS), bitNicKeLs (NKL) and so on and so on are still waiting in the wings (and meanwhile being traded on the Digitalis Open Transactions Server)...

I am a lot of things but unfortunately a programmer is not one of them, I hired someone to add the statistics but the work is coming along very slowly. If you log into your account you can see the beginnings of the stats being added, but for some reason this person is incredibly slow.

The reason I have not been pushing my programmer is because I recently discovered that poolserverJ does not actually work with more than one aux chains (although its supposed to) and the developer has pretty much disappeared and apparently abandoned the project, pushpool is very inefficient and archaic and not something I want to work with, maybe doublec wants to share his pool back end with me? Smiley (I doubt it)

so due to these issues things are kind of up in the air right now, not sure what I am going to do yet.

A quick search produced no information on these coins with regards to where to get source, clients, how merge mining capable they are (chain id's etc). Do you have any further details? Where are they used?

Thanks Mark and Cablepair for adding your user pages. The tomecount.py script:
https://raw.github.com/Unthinkingbit/charity/master/tomecount.py

can now update the payout spreadsheet for all writers:
https://raw.github.com/Unthinkingbit/charity/master/tomecount.csv

and write the devtome bounty file:
https://github.com/Unthinkingbit/charity/blob/master/devtome_bounty_8.csv

that will be added to the devcoin bounty file and so the writer payouts will get on the receiver file. The script will be run at around block 28,500, around Feb 2, to get the payouts for round 8. All writing after Feb 2 and will be paid in round 9 and later.

For the payout, everyone gets one generation share for each thousand original words. Also, if a writer has written at least a thousand words in this round and the last round, they get an additional share. If all goes well, in round 9 and later, writers will also get credited for collated words at a weighting of 0.3.

As of January 19, about 12,000 original words have been written.

Not to worry, a massive amount of work has been happening on the Open Transactions based currency-and-stock exchange so it looks like it is getting close to being useable for real...

its your own fault for setting an unrealistic minimum ask amount - you set it up to fail.

Very few people bought dvc at .0001 but how do you think they feel now that you have removed it? These are your users what are you going to do for them?

Hi Mark,

Thanks for adding articles to devtome. To earn coins, after an administrator checks to see that the text is original, the tomecount.py script will parse the user page, then count the words in the articles and calculate the payouts. An example snippet is pasted below and at:
http://devtome.org/wiki/index.php?title=User:Unthinkingbit&action=edit

Code:
==Articles==
===Collated===
*[[Home Remedy]] - Source: [http://en.wikibooks.org/wiki/Ethnomedicine/Ethnomedicine_by_Illness Ethnomedicine by Illness] and [http://en.wikibooks.org/wiki/Ethnomedicine/Home_Remedies Home Remedies] - Improvement: Combined wikibooks with wikipedia articles

===Original===
*[[Devcoin]] - Source: [https://github.com/Unthinkingbit/charity/blob/master/devcoin.html https://github.com/Unthinkingbit/charity/blob/master/devcoin.html]

==Tip==
Coin Address: 17vec4jQGCzMEsTnivizHPaowE715tu2CB

Please add links to your articles in the same format on your user page. Also, if you are on the bitcoinshare list please use the same coin address, so that if a dishonest writer edits your coin address the discrepancy will be noticed.

The original work will be counted at full value, collated work will also be counted, although with a low weighting starting at 0.3.

you want to edit a page or create a new one?

If you want to create a new page type what you want to create in the search window and then if it does not exist it will give you an option to create one

I am able to log in to the DevTome wiki now, but I still do not see how one actually goes about editting a page. Is that something that needs separate activation? (My username there is knotwork).

If you were logged in as a confirmed user the 'View Source' tab would become an 'Edit' tab. I don't see a user page for you, so maybe you aren't confirmed. Try clicking on the 'My Preferences' link at the top of the page:
http://devtome.org/wiki/index.php?title=Special:Preferences

and, I'm not sure about this because I don't see it since I'm already confirmed, but I remember there was a button like 'Send Confirmation Email' or something. Click on that and then check your spam folder.

Thank you Btc Artist, Joakim Refsdahl and Viboracecata for joining devtome. Your user pages are listed below:

Sorry about the long delay in processing your application. The delay is because we didn't notice until yesterday that the 'request an account' emails were going to a spam folder. That spam folder is now being checked daily and the next requests should be processed within a few days.

For new writers, please check your spam folder for a confirmation email because most or all automatically generated emails are going to a spam folder. If you do not get a response within four days, please post on the devcoin thread:
https://bitcointalksearch.org/topic/devcoin-34586

Since merged mining is done, the devtome writing payouts will start in round 8. To encourage more people to write, the per word rate has been doubled, from one generation share per two thousand words to one generation share per thousand words. At the prices at the time of this writing, a generation share of four million devcoins has a value of:
4,000,000 DVC * 0.000001 BTC/DVC * 7 USD/BTC = 28 USD

which is a word rate of 28 USD / 1,000 words = 0.028 USD/word. Word rates vary, but this is at the high end for freelancer articles:
http://www.freelancer.com/jobs/Articles/

and you can write whatever you want, however much you want, and port over stuff you've already written. There is no time wasted looking for gigs. If you wrote for wikipedia but a deletionist deleted your article or reverted your changes, this is perfect for you. Everything is under the Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike 3.0 Unported license. The writing has to be of at least reasonable quality, if the article is of poor quality it won't be accepted.

If you want to write to a particular subject, we'll see if there's a project that people are interested in and we'll ask people to write for that project.

Also, because the devcoin value has gone down since the Earn Devcoins By Writing page:
http://devtome.org/wiki/index.php?title=Earn_Devcoins_By_Writing

was written, the generation share option of the first article bounty is being doubled. So the first article bounty is now 5 BTC (or two generation shares, whichever you prefer) for the first five writers, 4 BTC (or 8/5 of a generation share) for the next five, etc..

Do nodes automagically update to these? Or is some manual work required?

Bitcoin!
January 10, 2012, 01:14:01 PM
Start Trading DVC / BTC on the exchange BTC-e.com

https://btc-e.com/exchange/dvc_btc
Only problem is that the lowest price you can bid on BTC-e is 0.000001 BTC per DVC, however that's higher than the current going rate for DVC, for example, the last price on Vircurex was 0.00000069 BTC per DVC.

Edit: Looks like cablepair beat me to it.

Edit2: btc-e: why not allow bidding to 8 digits, since that's what Bitcoin currently supports?

you really need to lower the lowest amount you can ask for

at least add one more 0 to it, otherwise no one is going to use your exchange for DVC, not right away anyways
