Final Update (Nov 18 2013):
So, I have finally taken care of the butterfly infestation at my home.
Then it was time to get back to this project and see where it should go.
I spent the weekend building up a few boards with the chips that "daemondazz" had sent (Thank You!).
Everything works except the Nonce capture from the Avalon Chip. The design needs
revised for a better clock filter from the incoming data out of the Avalon. It might as well be revised
for the 55nM chip as well. I believe there is already a good solution found in this open source design
for a clock filter: https://bitcointalksearch.org/topic/open-source-avalon-gen2-55nm-board-323175

Honestly, I don't have the drive to complete this project only because a single chip miner
seem so pointless given how the mining world has shaped up so far so fast and where it is going.
I would like to dedicate my energies on helping out on some other Open Source projects.

If there is anyone that has the ambition to finish this, PM me. I'll be happy to send
all the Eagle cad Files and materials to help out. This would include x10 55nM Avalon
sample chips and I also have a pickit 3 available if needed. I would also be happy
to share what I've learned and insights that would help get this project to the finish line faster.
Just hoping for the right person that can put the drive back into this and make it happen.

Thanks.

I would not mind helping with this project I think I could solve the none capture problem.
I don't know much about PCB design and how to use Kcad though.
Doesn't this project use the same PIC as the Klondike design?

Very interesting!

Any news about the project! Huh

need a few more chips.
Been a little overwhelmed how fast everything is happening in the bitcoin world.

Does anyone have a few chips I could purchase from them?

Thanks.

I have 7 sample chips that I received from both zephir and SebastianJu, happy to pass them on to you if you can make use of them. PM me an address and I can get them on the way in a couple of days.

I too have been following this DIY project.  Is there any other way to for a person to make their own board or even a block erupter on their own.  Do we have to only rely on Avalon?

yep.  Avalon's lack of shipping killed all these projects, no?

Did you die man?! hah I'm working on the same tech and hope you are doing well! Perhaps Avalons shipping problems killed this one?

I am late? I want to say: D+/D- must be protect by Avalanche transient voltage suppression diodes for ESD/Surge protection. Littlefuse p/n SP0503BAHT FYI.
Project update:

So, I don't follow the threads as closely as I used too. Any Avalon sample chips available out there yet?

The PCB is pretty much finished other than a few more tweaks here and there maybe and some adjustments on the top silk layer. I haven't pulled the trigger yet on a PCB order because I would like feedback if there is any expertise out there. The design definitely wouldn't be where it is today without some of the suggestions and feedback I've received (mostly by email).

Here are all the project files to date:

As soon as I get wind of the Avalon chips shipping then i will rush the order on this ASAP. Hopefully, if there are any bugs left, we can catch it before then.

I have two Avalon samples committed to this project. Big thank you to SebastianJu.

I'm still looking for 8 more Sample chip donations that ship before the bulk orders do.
I plan on a initial order of 10 boards. If you have made a bulk chip order, please
consider a few Sample chips donation this way.
Thanks.

I've been following your work, and was going to chirp in about relaying a couple chips if I end up with too many, but thought I'd better wait and see what I actually get. Anyway, my firmware will be open and should work for your design with perhaps some small changes. It's just a matter of when I feel confident to release it.

Hey,

I am going to send 17 to you and 2 to allten. I also saw that other group buyers assigned some samples to you.

My package was not yet delivered, so if you already know that you have more than you need, instead of shipping them twice you might want PM me and I'll assign some of your samples to allten.

Are you writing the firmware for this project ?
Will this hardware be supported by cgminer?

I could sure use some help, that is for sure. Been too busy to get anything started.
BKKCOINS has a very identical setup and I'm hoping he won't make me reinvent the wheel, but we'll see.

If you were going to work on software you'd be better off putting energy into the cgminer driver as I stalled there when hardware started arriving and needed my attention.

Thanks BKKCoins! Appreciate your support.
Seems like Luke-JR was offering help. Can't remember for sure.

Received the stencil today.
Also, a photo of all the components. If i wasn't so order happy, there would only be two boxes :-)

I used SEEED studio express to order the PCBs
http://www.seeedstudio.com/depot/fusion-pcb-service-4-layers-p-1383.html?cPath=70_71

Great price, but I've never used them before. I don't know how long shipping will take, but hopefully they will come in before the Chip(s) arrive.

Here is a very simple mounting tool that I think would enable any clumsy idiot like myself to do smt mounting.

Nice:-)

intron,
saw your work for a 16 AVALON ASIC in another thread. Nice work. Do you plan to sell a DIY version?
One of my goals is to get all the DIY offerings out there and do a tutorial and writeup and add it to this thread.

thanks.
