The title of this article should be:  "How can we keep women out of Bitcoin?"

I first started using the internet sometime around 1990.  Back then, just about anyone you met or talked to online was either a game developer, scientist, or astronaut.  Any female population at that time was either zero, or a rounding error.  The internet was kind of a secret, gentlemen's club you went to for escaping the Jerry Springer, mindless, real world.  Fast forward a decade and where are we now?  After a decade, through possible infinite monkeys with typewriters phenomenon, women have discovered how to access the internet.  How has this affected the internet?  Well, pretty badly to be honest.

Cancerous entities such as Imgur, Twitter, Facebook, etc, began to take over.  The more cancerous and mindless the site, the more the female to male ratio mirrors real life demographics instead of being entirely male like the old days.  These are not normal women either, these are American women.  Let's face it, no one on earth respects American women, and for good reason.  They have a hugely inflated sense of self importance not seen in most other cultures.  Despite the fact that just about everything on earth was invented by a male, from electricity, to the car, airplane, transistor, probably even Bitcoin, and that if you look outside your window, every brick you see is there because a man put it there, they believe males are expendable, their lives hold more value, and you're supposed to worship them.  Never has such a disconnect between reality and expectation been witnessed.  The whole feminism thing came about as a legitimate right to work issue, and is now nothing more than a scam.

Unlike what some people seem to be suggesting, that men need to bend over backwards to help women become part of Bitcoin, the opposite is true.  Men do not need to accommodate women's irrational desires, expectations, entitlement, and self importance.  Women need a reality check, because "equality" means stepping down a notch.

Did a particular female Facebook employee attack a particular NYC bitcoin meetup on Reddit?  Was fud spread which would scare people away from using meetup.com to attend this bitcoin meetup because a man potentially touched her leg at a bar?  Yes.

Who would thought that a simple question would bring in a lot of angry posts and make people hostile towards each other the original question is a pretty good one as there seems that the forum is almost fully male.

One of the main outcomes of the internet is it has allowed people to find others and create online communities along specific and narrow worldviews. Bitcointalk and this thread are quite normal in that view, many people here (both men and women, my wife being one of them) find the same humor funny.

This is the exact behavior that keeps women away from bitcoin forums like this. They don't want to be on a forum filled with men making the same old sexual, disparaging and offensive "jokes" over and over again. You'll have to see this from a women's perspective; for them it's not just the one joke you posted, but hundreds or thousands of 'jokes' year in year out. They get really tired of that shit.

If you really want more women into bitcoin, you need to be open, respectful and friendly to them, not chase them away with childish "jokes".

Personally, I find "women" oriented blog and forum sites to be the most offensive sites of all. I've come across many that exhibit offensive opinions and what can only be described as hatred against males, women with children, etc. It is on those women sites where it is acceptable to have views that some people are better than others. On bitcointalk, it's just humor that few here seriously believe.

Most of the women I have spoken to haven't even heard of Bitcoin unless it's through their boy friends who are into it I don't understand why they are not interested in it though it's money at the end of the day.

Lucky man, when did you both first start?

Last August.  Got on at $10, and it's been a hell of a ride.  Sold enough later that no matter what happens we made %100 on our money - and that left us with 80% of our initial stash. So from here on out it's gravy.  Just wish I'd bought more.  :-)

What type of programming skills?  mind me asking what type of work the wifey does...

For most of my professional career I worked at startups hacking natural-language and machine-learning code in C++.  Now I'm sort of upset about how such code is being used (to exploit consumers and invade privacy) so I've backed off from it and instead I'm riding herd on a database for a freight company.  On my own time I've been dabbling with coding games.  Except  now I've left off game development and started putting together an altcoin (plus stuff) that I hope will be the next generation of cryptocurrency.

The good news is that my retirement is paid for; the bad news is I now feel like I owe the world a good turn to make amends for my sins.

The wife is a contract accountant whose clients currently include a major online porn company.  As I see it her job and the way people are using the results of her work is far more ethically pure than the way people are using the results of mine.

Either way we need girls for guys and girls for more girls!  Anyone agree?

I think you left out about a half-dozen combinations that different people find quite worthwhile, but I'm with you in spirit.  Good news is for everybody.

I agree a lot of the people are just here to have a laugh and a lot of people are taking it far to seriously I'm sure most of these guys already have girlfriends and some of those girls may be watching them post.

Lack of women in the tech world is quite normal, and I don't think they'll come anytime soon. My gf doesn't give a shit about bitcoin or technology in general, and often she laughs telling me I'm an uber-nerd. Do I feel attacked? Nopes, we laugh "together".

Thing is, all this girls in tech issue seems like a taboo topic.. Paul Graham also felt the heat recently...

  • Women are too dumb for bitcoin
  • Women only care about their shoes
  • We need titties
  • Women can only get bitcoins by prostituting themselves
  • Anything similar to the above

  • Most people are too dumb for bitcoin... women included
  • Women care a lot more about their shoes than men
  • We need titties.  Seriously.  There is a lack of titties in this thread.
  • Women can only get bitcoins by prostituting themselves

What's a girl?  Huh

All the time I come back to this thread (just for lulz) I LOL hard with this post (the one after the OP)... hahaha epic

Wow, this thread is SO full of ridiculously sexists remarks, it's unbelievable. Are you guys all 10 years old and still afraid of women or something? It's just shocking to read how low your opinion of women is. They're just as much a human as you, perhaps even more because they don't come here to post such utter crap.

Dude, don't sweat it... some peep is here just to have a laugh. Do you believe the above's quote guy doesn't really know what a girl is?

I really don't give a shit if it's "just to have a laugh". Personally I can't laught about it, and I'm sure women can't either (except for a few). This is the exact behavior that keeps women away from bitcoin forums like this. According to our forum statistics, for Goldcoin (GLD) it's about 20:1 in favor of the males.  Cheesy
