2nd. When they get out they have to go on probation usually, and need a job. Bitcoin mining & trading (and things like writing on Devtome) could legally fill that void so that they don't have to turn right back to criminal activity.

Or, if they get out of jail/prison in a state that allows marijuana legally, Washington/Colorado, some or all parts of cali and some other states, they can grow cannabis and might be much more lucrative than bitcoin/litecoin mining. Maybe safer to mine as growing cannabis is "federally illegal".

Not true.

I live in Colorado and grow weed and

1. It's illegal to sell weed unless you are a dispensary or caregiver, so no it is not lucrative.
2. Weed takes a lot longer to grow than you might think, and uses just as much if not more electricity than mining.

It's an alternative job. They could. And you sell your grown cannabis to the dispensary while you are licensed to do so. And yes, it is lucrative, why you think people are licensed to grow and sell. I bet it beats the the hell out of working at a fast food joints that ask for criminal history. How long would it take to solo mine a bitcoin vs growing a plant? Plant does not take so long to grow as you think, only few months, then the turn around profit after examined under microscopes, is phenomenal. In the long run, growing at fullest legal capacity, it might be more lucrative than bitcoin/litecoin mining.

Yes, please get more criminals into cryptocoins, we don't have enough of them yet.

Not everyone in jail is a criminal. Tons of people are in there for unpaid parking tickets and possession of pot.
Victimless offenders, who if they had more money, would have more privacy and could pay their tickets.

I agree with you, I did time for growing and think your idea is a good one, I would love to talk to you more about the idea, as one of the things on my project list is to go back into prisons and help people ready for release.

Mark

Go back into prison? Like as a church person, or you plan on getting arrested again?

Well. I'm due in court right around the time I'm expecting my Avalon order. That's why I was trying to sell them, don't know what's going to happen as I can't afford legal aid at the moment! So tense right now.... did someone turn up the heat??

Jail isn't that bad. Hopefully you didn't do anything too bad and get out soon.
Just spread the word about mining and coins while you're there Smiley

The OP offers a noble suggestion. Be careful about identifying yourself in any way, but imprisoned people need this care. I feel I have let down people I've known that fell through the cracks of society. Those cracks are widening every day.

Most people are in jail because of drug related crimes (as a libertarian and recreational drug user, I think this is a travesty of justice). If you educate people in jail on Bitcoin, make sure you mention silk road. As more drugs is traded online, less will have to traded in the streets so this is beneficial to society.

But you need machines that cost thousands of dollars so why should we point people to something that would bankrupt them?

There are coins that are merge mined and tradable for BTC that can be CPU mined.
And what if there is a guy that has $10,000 that he would spend on buying coke to sell, but starts up a mining op in a few friends houses when he gets out instead.

I have yet to see a CPU coin that you can currently trade to bitcoins and cover the electric cost and profit. Or take the $10,000 and create a business for himself that gives boost to the community and then has a business that will turn money out over and over.

Devcoin. Mine and write until you can afford a rig.

I would like to start sending letters to people in jail.

1st. I've been in jail and I know it's awesome getting mail
2nd. When they get out they have to go on probation usually, and need a job. Bitcoin mining & trading (and things like writing on Devtome) could legally fill that void so that they don't have to turn right back to criminal activity.
3rd. The idea of Bitcoin needs to be shared amongst struggling people

Bitcoin isn't a get rich scheme, so why should it be shared amongst just struggling people?

Not JUST struggling people. But mining is something that people should know about, lest they turn to illegal activity.
