The whitepaper is one of the first things i look at, as it is the layout of what the coin will do, how they plan to make it work etc.

It is not the only thing i look at, but it is very important. If you do not read the whitepaper, then you cannot be annoyed when you find out the concept doesn't work.

I see a lot of people that do not bother to read the paper,
I try to do max due deligence before buying any coin.

What about you?

So many people don't take the time to read the withe paper and to get some info about the project.
That's why China is banning ICOs, because people are lazy and follow anything and everything.

You must be carefull where you invest your money in, I think there are many people not reading whitepaper and roadmap and get scammed or coins thei invested in is worth nothing, if you read the whitepaper you know what kind of project it is and if it is worth investing, look for a project where the makers/ people behind it actually are real existing people, look at how they try to make a community, do they have social media etc ? usually if they try to make a good and big community the project is legit.

I definitely do. It is important for me to, otherwise there is no way of knowing if the project is technically feasible. After reading the white paper I do a bit of research on the team.

Lets not forget you are "borrowing" terminology from a REGULATED scene.. the stock markets.
White paper was borrowed as was IPO/ICO/ITO ..minus the regulations.
It was done in effort to legitimize the rampaging juggernaut of new ICO's flooding our scene.
You all adopted every little bit of stock market jargon you could think of.
You started calling open source decentralized crypto-CURRENCIES "startups"
They are not SUPPOSE to be "startups" and they are not companies and you are not investors.
It is a facade.. a charade ..for Bitcoin profits.
Bitcoin which was never an ICO ..nor premined with fake airdrop bullshit.

You know you guys you can play dumb all you want but it's in vain.
These are not "Penny Stocks" and when you betray your own well established and old guard crypto-ideaology it will simply result in TPTB coming after you with full force.

ICO = SCAM .

And get this..

There is an alternative.. it's called a crypto-currency. (something an ICO can never be)

I do, it'll help you see if the project is feasible.
And it'll help you asses the technical abilities of the team.

Of course, when you make a mistake in your ICO campaign you will be removed and what a waste if you are removed, because if you know you're here you will be deleted. and you need to read your ICO campaign and you need to follow it at their would like.

Of course I read whitepaper before participating at ICO. It would be silly not to do this. BTW whitepaper is just a part of my decicion. There are many different things that I take into consideration too. Such as team, advisors, project official registration, community, BCT Ann thread. The depth of current research depends on confidency to project and hyip around it.

Yes, reading whitepaper is the basic requirement to be a good investors, in the whitepaper, you can see a lot of information, including the creative idea, the market analysis, the token sale details and the team introduction.

Make A Bet on WORKING SOFTWARE
Everyone is trying to put anything and everything onto a blockchain.  Most of them are trying to squeeze square pegs into round holes.

There are a few applications that are well suited for cryptos:

*  transmitting value (currency)
*  store of value (which Bitcoin is)
*  smart contracts (Ethereum)
*  remittance
*  gambling

Not all applications are suited for cryptos.

One ICO is trying to match up locals with travelers to enhance travel experience.  No idea why a crypto is needed here.

Reading the white paper will help you discern if the project is trying to squeeze a square peg into a round hole.

Hi everyone,

i am new in crypto world and in bitcointalk, so please forgive any wrong questions.

Before i decide to invest in an ICO is it good to read the whitepaper, does it make sense? if yes, which part of the whitepaper shall i read (based on your experience) in order to avoid reading all the pages?

Also not to forget how vital is to investigate the website the general concept and if they can develop the idea with the budget they are requesting.

I think reading white paper is the best way to get to know about the project before investing it. many people don't bother to read which is a bad thing.
