This thing you do think is been thinking by the community for how many times and this topic have been talked for a couple of times already. Controversies is normal on bitcoin ecosystem because of its feature which is anonymity and a decentralized stuff which do leads up on lots of controversies and questions by the public. It wont really be surprising if they would ban it because of the potential increase of criminal activity because bitcoin is really a good tool on executing such transactions.And there are other currencies that offer better anonymity than BTC. I hope there won't be any bans, because it would not lower criminal activity. Such move would fail because that's not main reason of existence of criminals.
If anyone who insecure bitcoin will make it controversial. And hackers will always one of that. Then bitcoin will be popular and if government against bitcoin maybe bitcoin will be banned in other country.

Controversial is needed and it really helps bitcoin to become more popular and famous. Being controversial was set back few years ago when it was used for the underground market fro them to be erase their tracks and escape government officials. Bitcoin and other digital currencies as of now is one of the solutions to solve financial crisis. Fiat was controlled by the government, few unknown elites, interest killing debt, fiat money was an agent of inequality and other crimes that they are unstoppable by mere citizens. Digital currencies is another chance for the suffering people to make it right, holding to democracy and extinguished current injustices.
Of course Bitcoin is controversial, the price rising more than ten folds in only a year, JP Morgan CEO spreading FUD, CHINA banning BTC, Bitcoin Futures released this month any many more. I think this proves that Bitcoin is controversial enough.
I don't think is controversial ,that it is not accepted by the government and other reasons dose not make it controversial,it is not getting the ideology behind it. Bitcoin is a digital currency that is on its own unique and have a lots of benefits. The early buyers of Bitcoin have actually turn Millionaire and have change their life, and recently others investors are seen changing their condition for better as a result of Bitcoin investments.
