Analysis is the key.
It is all a matter of what BTC may represent. Remember that it is also compared to gold (because its resources are exhaustible). But what is most important, the BTC value is represented by the valuation of the community. It may be analogy to any asset. The same philosophy is the dollar and other central-bank currencies. First currencies based on gold assets, lower amount on silver. Than was era of other assets (security of dollar in oil). Now it bases on loan mechanisms.
What is more important to answer this question is - is BTC suitable for micro transactions. The answer isn't so simple, but I would risk the thesis that 'no'. It os based to arguments: + transmission costs
+ highly increasing value which decreases the minimum unit value
Concluding, in my opinion, it won't be a substitute for dollar. However altcoins - possible. There was a project for the Arabic market to alter traditional currency with digital (because 90% of people use mobile phones but have problems with access to banking services). It has failed because many people transferred immediately into traditional currency. I think that it is also a mental barrier.

Of course i thing in 15 years bitcoin will replace dollar Cheesy
I don't think the predictability of bitcoin prices prevents its use as a reserve currency. Who can predict the exchange rate of bitcoin a year from now? And the dollar is more or less clear. It will not let bitcoin displace the us dollar.

Dollar, too, no one can predict exactly in a year, but it has the advantage over bitcoin in that it is used by more people and for this they do not need the Internet.
Why do people keep on comparing about local legal fiat than to a digital currency? Knowing USD its one of the most strongest currency being used worldwide and talking about of getting replaced by bitcoins seems really impossible even we do say on next 20 years or more.To think of that bitcoin is relying on its value to USD mainly which means it cant really even surpass no matter what an government wont really allow such thing to happen.
People who supported bitcoin are just too happy with what they are seeing, bitcoin's value is increasing and yet they think already that it will replace dollar. A realistic person would not think that way because it will never happen that a legal currency will be replace by an anonymous or decentralized one.

It may be an outlandish statement to many, but it certainly isn't impossible. Now that the U.S is losing dominance over the World and we are all becoming more financially aware of the banking System and how it works, many are looking at Bitcoin as a safe-haven and as part of their long term investment portfolio. My Father for example is nearly 80 years old and he would have never touched Bitcoin even a couple of years back and now he is asking me questions about how we could mine Bitcoin etc and I even sent him the PREEV website to be able to check the price of Bitcoin. In Japan now, Bitcoin is is classed as a currency and given that status and more and more governments and countries are putting legislation in place in order to give Bitcoin a monetary base. It's finite rarity and blockchain transaction mechanism make Bitcoin a very attractive replacement to the U.S Dollar as a reserve currency and if not in 15 years, maybe later on down the line Bitcoin can have super dominance over the U.S dollar.

Some did not even hear about bitcoin and can only hear about 15 years later, but then they can still doubt whether they should use it.

What is clear for now is not, but 10 or 20 years in the future, maybe bitcoin can replace the dollar, because a lot of convenience that can be done bitcoin.semoga bitcoin can be applied in everyday life
As of what we can see today, it can't replace dollar soon and in the future it can replace dollar as more and more people are started using bitcoins and they see bitcoins as a store of value and feel secure using it.

It can replace the dollar only if it can be used without the Internet. And so it will only be an additional opportunity to invest.
I do not think that will happen, dollar is much powerful than other fiat, i think bitcoin will only remain as decentralized currency in the future but there will be an option to be used in offline and online transactions.
That would be happen in the future and it would be more popular that the current status of bitcoin.

Coinbase CEO believes bitcoin will replace dollar within 15 years.

Read the following news:
http://cointelegraph.com/news/114983/coinbase-ceo-bitcoin-will-replace-dollar-within-15-years

Do you think it will be true? Are you positive towards bitcoin's future status?

In world market, I'm positive that Bitcoin will replce USD years from now. Still Dollar will not collapse and be use like any other fiat as their major national currency rather than bitcoin. Though Bitcoin may stand side by side with fiat currency but will not takeover the fiat in usage within the country.

Yes it not be vanished. It tells the history of one country and every government dont want that to be lost.
It will be the vice versa of now in the future. Bitcoin as the most used in every transaction and fiat will be there but not much of a usage. Maybe through other transaction like street vendors they will use it for faster trading of goods and other stuffs. But in malls and other stores it will be bitcoin.
As technology goes higher it will come true. No doubt about it. Same with how much a credit card is being used right now.

i dont think so..

dollar is dollar and when you see dollar you see power.
bitcoin is bitcoin
Bitcoin is also powerful but not powerful as dollar, in fact we rely on the value of a certain currency which is most cases it's dollar because it's the most powerful currency IMO.
Because the economic of US give a lot of impact for the world of economic. And dollar can be determined as a fiat currency with a lot of impact to the world. It's not a powerful but the US has given a domination for the another fiat currency. And the price of bitcoin is not against dollar and anything. In fact the price of bitcoin not pegged with fiat.

There are chances that bitcoin can replace majority of  dollar transactions. But it all depends upon the governing bodies. If they support bitcoin and other altcoins , definitely majority of the people will start using bitcoins. But total replacement of dollar is impossible. In my opinion , none of the governing bodies will accept digital currencies as legal currencies.

Yes bitcoin is powerful but it is not suited for being a replacement for a big currency like dollar. Bitcoin is not a currency for a country because it is limited. In fact, bitcoin is just for additional currency which is only digital and it is created just to help the current issues and have a smooth economy but being a replacement for dollar is a very bad idea.

It's not going to happen. More likely, the dollar will replace itself with 'Digital Dollar 2.0' that will somehow "solve" all the traditional dollars problems and make it more convenient for use (but still fiat.)

Coinbase really knows how to wave that banner though.

You have hit the nail on the head my friend. We already see banks in the process of developing, what they call "Private Blockchains" These Private Blockchains is the experimental phase for the "private tokens"

backed by the governments, behind those banks. We can say what we want... If these banks are successfull with their "Private Blockchains"... and it can be scaled to replace fiat, it will be enforced by the

governments. We will see Fiat being replaced by it's digital twin version in the form of "Private Blockchains" How ironic is that... Bitcoin being disrupted by it's own technology.... The Blockchain

This is exactly what I think will happen.
Except it probably won't be on the Blockchain.

Governments want control, especially of their monetary supply.

They will either just go digital with current tracking tech so they can track every transaction.
If they do use some iteration of Blockchain technology, it will not be private.
They will probably also control it through government controlled wallets.

They've been wanting to go to digital money for a long time.
It is mostly digital already anyway.

Not soon, not in the far future.
I don't think bitcoin will replace any kind of currency. Never. First, the government wants control over the economy, so does the banks. With bitcoin, no one has control. Bitcoin may be more widely accepted around the world, but only has an optional way to pay.

Yes, good point. And I think there isn't a necessity to replace dollar. We can have all the currencies working very well, if people have the right to choose what currency to use, no problem. What can't exist are governments forbiding their people to adopt Crypto-Currency, that is wrong. Anyway, dollar is too strong and it will continue leading the world for much time yet, and I think there aren't disadvantages on it.
yes in fact we are not going to replace dollar, and i think it is not such an easy task to replace dollar, dollar is too much stronger and i think still majority of people of the world are using dollar, while the users of bitcoin are very low and it will really take a long long time when bitcoin users will even equal to the users of dollar. so we need to introduce bitcoin in such areas where people even do not have any idea about bitcoin.
Indeed, it is impossible for bitcoin to replace dollar. Dollar is too strong to be replace even the other currency cannot defeat it. Before you think on how to replace dollar you should legalize bitcoin around the world first. Most of the people know about dollar unlike bitcoin only few people know about it and it require internet connection to be access.
