i think No, because the amount that had been stolen by the theft from bitfinex is not small . its amount will definetly change the price of the bitcoins .
if the btc had been sold then there will be sharply fall in the bitcoin amount will take place but there is nothing like that instead of small change in rate due to change in the value of doller .

no it is not small at all you are right on that! but they can use a mixer, trade some on darknet, some other placed on ICOs, even rent mining rigs (not talking about cloud mining), buy some other good using btc, and when the times come to cash out, they will selling small amounts, there is a million ways to get away with that but also there is a million ways to get you, but less likely the 2nd story will not happen !

What do you think guys about the funds from bitfinex do you think they already sell those bitcoin in the other market.? thats why the price of bitcoin is down or thats why the price of bitcoin is down its because they already seen the news about hacking bitfinex? an many people saw this news and sell their bitcoin thats why the price of bitcoin is down?

They can't move them or sell them.

Other exchanges would freeze the dirty coins. They'll likely just sit there unused.

How do you know this? What would be the reason for hackers to get bicoins when they can't use them? Also the Bitcoin Price dropped dramatically in the last days. How is this related to the bitfinex hack if not through more sellers trying to dump their Bitcoins. In my opinion there will always be a buyer if the Price is low enough. Even from illegal activities.

I don’t think those bitcoins are sold yet but there is possibility of critical diversion of those coins in large number of cold storage wallets. The price fall was due to panic selling effect (that we have experienced many times before this one). The guys who hacked those bitcoins still have control on those coins due to cold storage but it won’t affect much in price directly, what we experienced was indirect effect of the incident in which some people scared and sold their bitcoins.

No. It will probably take years before they start spending their coins as they need to mix their coins first. Or they must be YOLO hackers where they don't give a damn about their wallet being followed, which I don't think is the case. They will mix their coins in a slow but effective manner first. After that they will start spreading their coins into possibly hundreds of wallets.

i think not yet to sold in market exchange but who know that bitcoin have been sold in Darknet? in Darknet, maybe they only sell in half of all bitcoins. for other options is they hold all bitcoin first, then after the situation is good, they sold it slowly. just my 2 cents and my opinion.

Well once you have so many bitcoins you have so many options. You can distribute them to you own 100 wallets and no one will be able to track who hacked the bitfinex or who is using the stolen bitcoins.

the price went down after the hack and recovered  back and now just fluctuating, it seems that the bitcoins are not sold. i think after this problem solves the hacker may sell slowly, also there wasn't a panic sell that continued to lower the price of BTC which is good.

Doesn't really matter, because bitcoin price already crashed because people got panic and sell their bitcoin after the indicent.
But, i'm sure they'll use mixer service so they can use/sell their bitcoin eventually.

In my opinion bitcoin still not sold, because if bitcoin has sold price of bitcoin will going down as deep. And price of bitcoin today is not too going down, it is just fluctuating of price and it is normal.

it is not easy selling these stolen coins but i think the hacker has been trying to launder 1000BTC of it by disguising it as a giveaway and claim the 1000BTC with his alt account and then claim he has gained these coins fairly from a giveaway! a stupid idea i should add.

p.s. do we know any of the addresses involved in the 120KBTC theft?

look I don't know about this particular hack, and I'm just reading about it now as I get reacquainted with alt coins,  however I still have common sense. Every time I hear about a big hack people watch intensely at the block chain and wait to see a huge transaction, like we all don't know the truth which is anyone smart enough to steal these coins is also smart enough to separate them and re sell them in small increments. its probably a very long process that begins the minute your coins are stolen.  Cry

No. They haven't sold them yet. Why would they unless they are wanting to get caught.
It is hot time now for them to look for large volume of coins being transferred out of an address.
They are watching closely now for these tx to happen.  Embarrassed

may be bitfinex can track their ip  and wallet info and inform other exchanges block it . hackers cant spend their money so easily ,i believe it is large amount . or all the sites who aware about bitfinex incident  can be cautious when they receiving large amount of bitcoins to their sites.

They cant trade it on exchange site but they can sell it individually. Some are using black market to sell their dirty bitcoin. They can spend it themselves. There are still ways to spend or sell their stolen bitcoins.

I'd be very curious to know how many people managed to successfully sell large amounts of stolen coins in the past. There are so bloody many of them that they can't all be sitting there waiting for a rainy day.

I know the Sheep Marketplace guy ended up with money to throw around as the stupid bitch started buying houses all over the joint.

I don't think the coins have moved since they initially left Bitfinex's control. I haven't actually researched the addresses in question, but that has been what Zane has been saying for the last couple days.

The hacker would be a fool to move those coins to an exchange. Best bet is to at the very least mix them before using them. In any case, he would be wise to do nothing for a while.

I don't believe the stolen btcs have hit the market yet. The drop is probably due to the news and the fear of some whales expecting a big dump. Regarding the hacker, is it possible that he can make a deal with some mixers in order to get his btcs nice and clean?

I think bitfinex will know that to which address(wallet) there bitcoins gone, they should have to publish that address and have to inform all other exchange so that no one will try to get bitcoins from that address, with that people will then consider the hacked bitcoins as dying bitcoins and will not try to hack again.

how does that work? if i am sending bitcoin to an exchange or somewhere else there is not possibility to just don't accept the transaction. at least not to my knowledge.
only the mines could refuse a transaction and i imagine that far more difficult to agree on.
