The bullshit in Mindanao has been going on since the spanish colonized the philippines. It happened under the americans. It happened under the japanese. It happened again when the americans regained control. And it's still happening to this day. I'd be willing to wager a useful body part it was going on before the spanish landed -- but very little records remain from the pre-colonial era. If It was my decision, I'd create an enclave, give them their own land, put all wall around it with armed guards on the PH side, resettle anyone who doesn't wish to live in that zone, refuse to do any trade or business with them, and shoot anyone who tries to cross the border. If anyone else inside the PH zone started clamoring for muslim rights, I'd deport them to the lawless zone. They've been terrorists for 300+ years, they're not going to decide to quit being terrorists by choice. They don't know anything else.

From what I've heard, more than 90% of the ISIS militants in Marawi were local Muslims (known as Moros). Only less than 10% of the 700 or so militants were Chechens, Arabs and other foreigners. And it is very hard to prevent these few people from infiltrating in to Philippines, given the complex geography and large population.

It's a big problem now because they found out that Maute group are joined forces with ISIS group.
Many civilians died and evacuate because of continius attack of this group.

I have to disagree on that, it is beyond religion now. Whether Christianity or being a Muslim, it has nothing to do with ISIS for which Christians and Muslims before the Maute attack happened, are living harmoniously, yeah there are a little fire at some point because of religion conflicts but they sure get together well. That's why Marawi City became a good city. Now the incident had tarnished the relationship between Christians and Muslims in Marawi, and even those Muslims are victim of the bad Muslim's doings. The purpose of ISIS is somewhat related to their religion but they don't demand to Christians to convert to Islamic, but they are asking whether you are a Muslim or not, if not then you will die instantly by their guns.
Here you go again. Even before the Marawi clashes, the relations between Muslims and Christians were not good in Mindanao. The Moro Islamic Liberation Front waged a violent rebellion for many decades, before laying down their arms.
ISIS or not, they were all terrorist. They all endanger the life of the People not only in Marawi but the whole Philippines.
Well not really. This Maute group just do all these killings and wanted to be acknowledged as an ally to the terrorist group ISIS. But I do not mind because they are going to be wiped out any moment. The parents of these Maute brothers, the leader of this group were already jailed. Even some of their members were killed. It seems that the Philippines will not stop until all the members were alive. Salute for the President of the Philippines.
This may sound a bit harsh, but even if the Maute leadership is exterminated it is not going to resolve the issue. As long as there are Muslims in Mindanao, such incidents will repeat. Especially nowadays, with ISIS expanding far beyond their Arab-speaking core region.

These terrorists are way beyond religion. Both Islam and Christianity are imported to the Philippines. Very little of us worship the old gods now. The bad part was when these two religions were imported in, they brought their historical baggage with them. The Spanish loathed to see people of the same religion that has invaded them. (They called Filipino Muslims "Moro" after the Moors that invaded Iberia. Ironically Muslim propagandists has reused the word now as some constructed identity.) As for Muslims here, I hear some mention Crusades, though people here never had anything to do with that part of the world.
So yeah, religion has everything to do with this mess. Don't let apologists deceive you otherwise.

The origins of this group can be also coming from Islamic State. I believe it has a strong reference to ISIS.

This is my two cents regarding the war in Marawi Philippines between the Maute group and Philippine Armed forces. The ongoing war in Marawi is a testing ground for the terrorist, they have to know how will the Gov't react to the situations, the Muslim living in Mindanao how they will embrace their fellow Muslim in a caliphate rule. To their credit, Muslims in the Philippines can claim that Islam reached earlier than Christianity in that country. The first Arab traders arrived in Mindanao around 200 years before the Spanish invasion. However, by the time the Arabs were forcibly converting the Hindus of Indonesia and Malaysia, Philippines was a majority Christian nation. Else, they would have also converted the Filipinos.

Yeah sure... you can claim that the Abu Sayyaf and the Maute are staunchly secular groups. You can even claim that the ISIS has nothing to do with Islam. Or even better, you can claim that the ISIS is originally a Jewish conspiracy to tarnish the reputation of Islam.
