Next year will be my first bull run and have just been thinking about what will be best to do when it finally arrives next year.

Do you plan on just holding till an amount you are happy with or is it a good idea to try and trade altcoins whilst they are pumping to earn even more?
During a bull market I generally find it better to sell altcoins at a profit instead of holding them.  But I'm never interested in investing in any coin other than Bitcoin during a bull market.  In some cases, investing in the best altcoins in the coin market doesn't have to bear that much risk.
In the bull run some people are not much comfortable in hodling. Hodling some coins can be the end of the coin and hodling some coin cam be of good profit,  people just feel comfortable hodling just bitcoin but they fear in doing same with altcoins because most altcoins are not reliable to hodl. Not altcoins are good to keep hodling in the bull run that is why some prefer to sell out in the bull season.

Just holding won't bring you a profit. To avail the profit on a bull run you need to sell. But selling everything early would make you most of the profit earning opportunities.
Bull is a time when buying at any price point can potentially make you a profit next day. But there are risks of you buying at the top and not being able to sell when it crashes.
For these reasons, we need to have a safe approach. It comprise of selling your holded coins on small batches, starting from a reasonable price point to greater than the last time's all time high. Keeping most of it in fiat based currency, reinvesting the rest profit looking at the technical movement of the coins. So, you need to both trade hold and buy.

You have a point here, but sometimes it is also misinterpreted by other beginners because they often read or someone tells them that you just hold and earn without any definite explanation. Then the investors will believe, even if they don't know how to choose a crypto to hold.

Even if we say Bitcoin is what they buy and hold when they see that the price of bitcoin has suddenly dumped everything, it is usually among the uninformed investors that they panic and push them to sell suddenly because they don't know anything, so the end result of holding is useless; I just thought nothing.

People will do both. People who are afraid of loss through trading, they prefer holding and whom who have knowledge enough will start trading, increase their fund and then invest that for earning more. For me, i choice holding, as it doesn't need to give much effort while you have also take care personal business. For me i want to hold until a coin gain a decent price for sold. Can't predict accurate value but I'll sell when i think i should. And yeah, finally we are in bull.

First of all I want to say that I trade during Bullrun but need knowledge to trade so I always short. But there is always risk in shorting through altcoin so always be careful even though the market conditions are very good at present. But I can say one thing if you are not a professional trader there are many good coins in the market to hold for long term. I have also placed some calls that will give me a good return in the future especially after the bitcoin halving. So whatever you do, analyze yourself first.
The shot trading option during the bull run is the best option in my opinion. However, there is more attention to market movements. because we miss even a little, we might not get any profit there.
but if you choose to take a shot trade and still secure some of your money in another coin that has a large enough market capitalization, I think it is enough to sustain the losses from short trading.

We are now finally in bull run but only just getting started - my portfolio reached +100% for first time yesterday.
I spent almost 2 years at a loss and then finally hit break even in November so to now be at +100% im happy.

I plan to sell in parts over the next 12 months as one thing I constantly have read over last 2 years is to not be greedy trying to time the top of the bull.

That's the right perception not to be greedy, if you already reached your target better to sell and release what you hold instead of being greed and try to make more, you can't predict what are the possibilities though if you are still believing that there are chances that the market will continue to rise back I guess it's up to your good understanding and knowledge as you already waited that long and you do capable to take that long time fram to hold just needed to add some to fully maximize all the potentials.

Personally, when we enter a bull phase of the market, i continue to trade, i don't stop at all, we can make money in both phases of the market bear and bull , then unexpected opportunities can appear in this phase.
right, I'm like that too. no matter what the market situation, you will definitely make a profit. but time determines. it could be sooner or longer. and the most important thing is to choose a good altcoin, of course with research first. Don't just start trading altcoins. especially for the medium and long term.

Choose the right asset and make sure that you fully understand the potential make sure that you trust the developers and what are the goals of the project, chances is always possible when you do your research and have that study being properly analyze and assess.

I will sell my assets when the price is pumped. When my assets have a return of up to 100% then I will sell them. I will not hold many altcoins because I believe that once an altcoin has been pumped it will likely be difficult to pump again. It will probably take the next 1 to 2 years for it to pump again. I'll sell it and go back to looking for new altcoins that haven't pumped yet.

I saw you posted in May 2023. If you had several altcoins like SEI, WLD, and TON at that time maybe by now you would have made a 1000% return.

I will also sell my altcoin if it gives a profit of at least 20% of the capital I spent when buying it. 2021 was a lesson for me where I set a target that was too high and in the end I didn't get a profit on my altcoin, and now tokens what I expected to rise is actually worthless

This is the year that you are waiting mate because the market is now bullying and do you know what to do now and have you listen to all the advises here?
also how much are you planning to trade because this is a risky way when there are already bull because we knew altcoin that changes in an easy time than strong coins like bitcoin and those top 10 currencies.

that buying and keep holding till it reached the highest value?
because I don't think trading is needed when the market is continuously increasing .

I used to try to trade but what's the point when everything pretty much starts lining up together?  Yeah you might make a little more but the stress on watching intro and exit points as well as the risk of losing more money than with just holding I don't like to anymore.  Just keep stacking sats Smiley

You are the one who will know for yourself if you can keep up with day trading even if we face a bull run. Just remember that it's not easy to keep up with the bull run if you do day trading. That means the only people who do this are actually those who have a deep understanding of bitcoin.

Because if you are left behind, it will continue, and it will be difficult for you to catch up. Because if there is a retracement, for sure its value will increase more than the price you sold, you get it? So if you're worried, don't try again.
Agree with u, day trading is practically a casino, now a swing trade is better, a spot trade without leverage (at least initially) is a good strategy too. Or simply leave it stored in the coin's wallet.

The market is made up of macro and micro trends, trying to predict a macro trend by looking at the asset's weekly chart is easier than identifying micro trends on 1-hour charts, etc.

For me the bull run is a time to hodl to make good profits, this is not a time to be distracted but to be calm and still hodling. Altcoins are so profitable for hodlimg just like Bitcoin too. I think for beginners I will recommend for them to just hodl because doing this it is very sure to make profit because we are in the bull run that the value of the market will keep on increasing.

If market conditions are in a bull run then it's time to sell it and it will give us a profit. because basically we trade because we want to make a profit, so when the goal has been achieved then why should we hold it. Current market conditions are not the right time to buy but the time to sell so that we don't get trapped if market conditions reverse direction.

Logically right, you should sell when you already achieved your goals, there's no sense of keeping your assets as there's no assurance that the market will continue to pump, as long as you already earned the target amount it's best to let it go and be happy with your earnings, greediness most of the time is the reason why you'll be left behind and instead of making decent profits you'll ends up with regrets as you keep trying to maximize your profits and it's too late to realize that the market already done and it's start to dump down and suck all the profits that you should have if you take it when it's still in positive side.

My personal typical investment is hodl. I will look for some crypto narratives that are currently hype or layer 1 tokens that still have the potential to rise 2-4x and then sell them. That's typical. I look for profits in altcoins except for BITCOIN. I will hodl because 80% of my portfolio is bitcoin, not Altcoins are me personally
