Is IRC still alive? Seriously? Huh

It is, and actually pretty popular amongst some die hards. This is the purpose of this thread/poll. Some of my associates are very passionate about IRC, and to their credit they seem to use it well and they have fun with it. I personally don't like using it, and I wanted to see if I was the odd one or if they were.

What I have trouble with is that they seem to want to encourage folks to join the IRC channel of the coin we support, while disregarding the crypto forums (including our own), which I view as a mistake. Based on the comments here and the poll votes, it would seem much more productive promoting a coin on the forums instead of on an IRC channel.

No
I think wats app bbm ym os better than it
For group chat i use facebook Smiley

Better is pretty subjective. More user friendly, yes, but I've seen folks do some cool things using IRC.

I hate using IRC because botnets started using it to communicate and I'm always paranoid I'll be infected if I have to use an apparently legit version.
Roll Eyes I think you need to educate yourself more.

I used it 1998-2001.
Actually, IRC was one of the things that made me get a 56k modem ;-)
Today: no need.

I started using it back in 2001 when I just got internet. I spent years on there. Eventually the net of my country started dying. Nowadays no one in my country uses it anymore so its not worth it for me.

What country is that?

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Internet_Relay_Chat was a good read.

Pidgin looks interesting.  Used to use Trillian until MS changed skypekit preventing the client from working with Skype.

I use IRC every now and again. I tend to use pidgin with OTR for most of my chatting though.

I use pidgin as well, but can I connect to IRC with pidgin?  I never tried.

No, I just don't see much of a use too.

Good system for group chat, but it doesn't seem to have evolved while other chat protocols and services have.
