Congratulation NotATether,  I guess this is one of the fastest decision taken by theymos Smiley
Adding the "OP" patch was the fastest in my opinion 🤣
Well done theymos.

I'm going to revise that section to be more neutral and generalized.
These are just my personal liking and disliking so please do not get much influence from it.

1. I did not like when you asked for mailing address. It sounds like you are building an email list.

2. I also did not like endorsing an eCommerce site for video editor also emphasizing the 7 days free trail for another specific video editing project, although you said you are not affiliated.

Added.

One minor point of criticism I have with the site is that in places the issue is framed in a similar way to pro-X/anti-X political action sites, where you're asked to lobby various people. But Bitcoin is meant to escape politics: if you run your own full node, you can't be subject to changes to Bitcoin which you don't consent to, regardless of what anyone else does.

Wow democracy at it's best Smiley

Thanks.

Considering that the particular section you are talking about is also slightly out of date (EWI and Earthjustice have now joined in the Bitcoin-bashing) I'm going to revise that section to be more neutral and generalized.

Last call! Does anyone want to see a factoid worded differently from below, before I send this and the thread to Theymos?

BitcoinCleanup.com: Learn why Bitcoin isn't bad for the environment

Actually I change my mind. The point was raised that people wouldn't click on a link that says "debunking XYZ", so I actually think this is preferable to all the others.

There's no reason not to support your idea on this one, but yes I hope it will be useful.

I voted "Yes" as support although I think only theymos will determine whether this idea can be included in one of the slots in the end. But maybe yes, stopping the FUD of bitcoin should get some good support from the community. Bitcoin isn't bad for the environment, it's a fact but some people don't believe it.

I like TryNinja's suggestions the best, so far. If the aim is to get people that see the factoid to visit the website then something provocative is more likely to succeed than a dry description.

I probably wouldn't click on this: "BitcoinCleanup.com: Debunking false claims of Proof of Work's energy usage."

I might click on this: "BitcoinCleanup.com: Did you know that Bitcoin's global energy usage is less than 1/3 of what's consumed by sleeping electronics, in the US alone?"

Just my $0.02, feel free to ignore Smiley

How about...

Quote
BitcoinCleanup.com: [Learn] Why Bitcoin isn't wasteful as some say

Quote
BitcoinCleanup.com: [Learn] Why Bitcoin isn't bad for the environment

Quote
BitcoinCleanup.com: Did you know that Bitcoin may be good for the environment?

etc...? IMO, it could increase people's curiosity and draw more clicks.

(the "learn" is optional")

Reposted because the forum software went zalgo.

I agree! This sounds best; vote is cast accordingly.
Without even mentioning PoW, it is too broad and doesn't draw as much attention.

Specifying that it's about PoW climate FUD may draw even more, as it's such a hot topic right now. But I have no idea how easy or hard it is to have the factoid changed later down the road (if possible at all).

In that case, we can do:
Quote
Quote
BitcoinCleanup.com: Debunking false claims of Proof of Work's energy

The word "energy" encompasses everything abut climate change and the environment without bloating the factoid.

BitcoinCleanup.com: Debunking false claims of Proof of Work

I like this format the best. It allows me to repurpose the site and move it around when necessary (within the subject of Proof Work), as if it was an artillery battery.

I'd suggest to keep open the option for future expansion to other areas:

Or even shorter:

I didn't mind the forum ads, but I now like how much more visible the factoids are.

Why not?
I have a little read on the project. I liked the idea though I didn't go through the whole details. I have voted yes. If there are factoid ads open, it should promote the good project along with some historical posts, satoshi's posts.

Factoid – An inaccurate statement or statistic believed to be true because of broad repetition, especially if cited in the media.
I can't speak for anyone other than myself, but when I see the word "factoid" I don't immediately think it's referring to an untruth but rather a small snippet of something true about a particular issue that doesn't delve into minute details.  Personally, I think it's an appropriate wording in this case, though obviously if someone not familiar with the word looks it up like you did, they might come to the wrong conclusion about the content.

"Facts" or "fact list" or "summary of facts" would be decent choices too IMO.

And yes, I'd like to see this get written, and as to the bitcoin/PoW thing, I don't see why they both can't be mentioned in the same line--like I just wrote it, because it kills two birds with one stone.

It's fine by me.

But what I would like to see is the factoids on the main page as well.
Another thing is that in those threads the factoids are getting lost in a way. The ads were more colorful and were dragging more attention.

Maybe adding some kind of color code or an some bbcode icons could draw more attention ✅.

I barely noticing them while reading comments, because when you are focused on the conversation ( thanks God there are still such threads) you just jump over the text..

But for me it would be better if the factoid will not sounds as an ad. Like eureka, facts and studies, maybe like...

"Did you know that America's electronics use more energy than Bitcoin. For more facts about Bitcoin Proof of Work mining check Bitcoincleanup.com"

Or same in the BPIP factoids format.
"Did you know that Bitcoin Proof of Work Mining is actually **Good for the environment?"
"Did you know that Most of Bitcoin PoW environment myths are not true?"

Well, that just for me though, most of the quoted above are taken from the website btw...

I'm trying to make it sound like there are a bunch of myths surrounding Proof of Work and then I put the website (bitcoincleanup) where they can get the correct information.

So perhaps this will do:

Quote
Many myths are spread about Proof of Work by those who wish to discredit Bitcoin, such as claiming it pollutes the environment and that Bitcoin mining is not important enough to use large amounts of energy. These are all debunked at BitcoinCleanup.com.

It's 258 characters.

I asked Theymos if I can get a factoid for BitcoinCleanup, and he directed me here, so here we are.

While, as said, this is information/fact, not factoid (which has multiple meanings and one of them is bad), I do support this.
You've had a great initiative, you've done great work, it deserves more advertising. After all, it's in the best interest of Bitcoin.
