All of you, shut up and pay me!

Hahaha, I think the grammar-nazi cat forgot his hyphenation of phrasal attributives.

Hi,

I really don't get how everyone is putting a "liked my post? donate!" in their signature. I mean, come on, wtf? Now you expect me to pay you because you voluntarily decided to express an opinion and it wasn't total crap?

What's with the greed, dude...

Seriously, how much do people expect to make this way? A dollar a week? 1.20$?

I propose an unconditional, unlimited ban for everbody having a bitcoin address in their signature!

I would donate a lot more to various YouTube uploaders if only they'd include an address in their comments.

Likewise with bitcoin-related articles on the web.

Here's a smart way to do so: you could say thanks!
If you hadn't just found the internet yesterday you wouldn't even think about asking for donations.

Saying thanks just isn't good enough anymore. Thanks along with 0.5 BTC can really show your appreciation. This additional support for the people willing to help each other out can really drive quality up. Micro payments everywhere and in everything is the future.

I agree, it's odd. But why? Because easy, direct, electronic, global, micro payments actually don't exist in a world without BitCoin or something similar. Fair enough, there is a bit of excess here.

Wouldn't I want to show appreciation?

I don't see how this is a problem. Consider this-

I make a post saying, "I can't get my miner working, my motherboard is borked!"

Then someone with more experience than me comes along and solves the issue, without me having to go buy a new mobo.

Wouldn't I want to show appreciation? Certainly I won't ask for his paypal addy and send him some USD. But if I just got a payout from another miner of mine, and I have 2.05 in my wallet, I might send him that .05. No real skin off my back, but if the guy is running around helping other people, that .05 could add up.

Of course I wasn't seriously proposing to put a rule in place. Also, I see why people providing an actual service would ask for donations.

I personally just don't think coming off all begging is worth the 22 Cents a month.

Grief, you guys are being hard on the OP.

I also noted the oddness of asking for money in a different post.  I find it slightly unseemly.

Though it is a little much for the OP to suggest a rule to keep people from doing it.  Maybe that's what invited the strong reaction.

So OP is one of those people who complain about every single piece of unimportant and unsignificant stuff... why do you read those signatures anyway?

... if you use different address for each post, then you can easily track which comment the donor was responding to.  Very clever!

I think there is a way for advertisers to exploit that feature for some serious market intel...

Whoa!
That's a bigger idea than it seems at first.
It reveals some of the potentials and pitfalls of bitcoin.
It chips away at the anonymity it offers.

I do not understand why it would make you mad that people have a donation address in their sig. Perhaps some people feel inspired by what someone else says and choose to show their appreciation. The operative term being choose. As for me I have an addy in my sig and I have yet to receive one of these mythical donations but i don't really expect to. I just think it would be a neat surprise. I think people take things way too seriously in the world but at the same time fail to take important things seriously enough.

I don't have a problem with it In the sig. I don't see it as begging.

Now If you started a topic. Please give me coins as my hampster broke his leg, My gf needs a dress etc

then I would consider that begging.

I have donated to peoples sigs before that's helped me out. Why well I was 2 lazy to spend 2hrs on google and RTFM to fix my issue.

so far the total amount I have got that I cannot explain is .0015
