POW in Donetsk march.
As a result of the rebels advancing towards Mariupol / Telmanovo in the South, a huge cauldron has been created with Amvroseevka at the center. Somewhere between 5,000 and 10,000 Kiev troops are trapped inside the cauldron, armed with some 30 battle tanks, 80 APCs and more than 60 pieces of artillery guns and heavy mortars.

Regarding the rebels' possible attack on Novoazovsk and Mariupol, this may well be a distracting blow (Kharkov being the primary target).
I don't think they are going to attack all the way up to Kharkov. The rebels are concentrating on the Donetsk and Lugansk oblasts. And they don't even have the necessary human resources to control the outlying cities and settlements in Donetsk such as Mariupol and Krasnyi Liman. My guess is that they want to stop the artillery attacks which are targeting the major cities of Lugansk and Donetsk.
Pretext for war huh... well the humanitarian convoy is on its way back to Russia now and nothing happened... lol.

Paya, it's interesting that people on key posts in DPR government (prime minister, minister of defence etc) were replaced by ukrainians. It seems that something will happen soon. 
Goal is to build functional, autonomous administrative/state structure without anyone with Russian citizenship - this should make it easier to demand a chair for themselves on future peace conference which must be arranged, sooner or later. Kiev has been refusing such idea so far (to recognize rebel political representatives as a side in negotiations), but if ATO fails to defeat uprising in Donbass, they will have to accept that after all.

Looks like ATO is on the verge of collapse at the moment. Rebels are hitting back everywhere, and hard. They managed to encircle strong Ukrainian battlegroup south of Luhansk, while in the same time taking pretty big chunks of land north of the city. Rebels are also advancing towards Severodonetsk, north-west of Luhansk, and Amvrosievka which is south-east of Donetsk. Ukrainian positions on strategically important hills of Savur-Mohyla are in grave danger too. To make things worse for ATO command, there are night fights going on in the vicinity of coast city Novoazovsk and shooting is reported even as far as in Mariupol - both places deep behind their lines.
Kiev desperately needed to take at least one of two major cities (Donetsk or Luhansk) before todays national holiday so that they can show one big victory to their sponsors, but, apparently, Ukrainian forces are now actually struggling to hold their ground. There's gonna be many grim faces on that parade in the capital...
