Bitcoin is on the rise, cryptocurrency market is bullish, many are happy and excited speaking about wins but I want to remind you not to be swayed by all these wins, thereby sharing yours in public and then people having eyes on you.
Most people who are actually engaging you in discussions aren't your fellow investors neither are they having those discussions with you on a positive note, some of them are informants sent by kidnappers or robbers as the case may be to track those that could be possible victims for robbery, so it is paramount we keep our mouths shut and release only the most limited or no information about ourselves when in a public setting.

Quote
Remember, our economy is on a downhill, things are hard, December is already here and this means the rate of robbery and crimes as a whole, will increase, be highly cautious.
Nobody would target you if you learn how to keep your mouth shut, especially when you are drunk. Most people are talkative when they are drunk. maybe you should apply moderation for the sake of your safety.

Quote
I don't really need to speak much about others like not your key, not your coin, since we ought to be familiar with this already, but here are some others:
  • Don't because of show-off go for second-hand devices, especially when you know you will be having your coins on that devices.
  • Don't because of FOMO invest in any altcoins and also be cautious in the amount you invest now, don't go all out on cryptocurrency,  remember it's volatile.
  • Never ignore security measures for coins and stay safe.
Second hand phones is a serious security threat especially when it has to do with banking activities, reason being that some of these phones are hacked before they are sold and if you are not careful, all your banking details and wallet logins would be stolen by these scammers and you would be left empty handed. A good example is one of my friends that bought a second hand phone for his wife earlier this year, he installed his a new wallet into it with the intention of saving some funds there but he noticed that anytime he copies the wallet address, it is changed on clipboard, when he pastes it on whatssap to pick it up with the other device and send funds, he notices that what got pasted is different from what was copied, hence he suspected that the phone is already compromised. If he was not careful, he would've lost lots of funds in the process.

Secondly, secondhand gadgets especially handsets can land someone into serious trouble since most of those phones are likely stolen and resold to unsuspecting individuals and when the phone is found in your hands, you would be in deep shit, and regrets follow suit after mistakes. If you can this period, avoid second hand devices because boys are active now nabbing and reselling stolen items.

As cryptocurrency enthusiasms we have to build the mindset of making our security a priority and anything that will bring issues should be avoided as much as possible, and indeed second handed property is a dangerous thing to buy and most especially any devices that share location and have an IP address or IMEI this is very important because most of the innocent guys in policy custody or prison today are not the real criminals but victims of gullible decisions to purchase a second hand device.
This main point there is that we all have to be careful prayer full because anything can happen even with a new phone although with the new phone the case can be easily trackable. After all, you have a receipt and a point of purchase of the device, engaging in second-hand deals of the handset is the fastest way to land in trouble and if you must engage in it you need to take caution and ask for either receipt and cartoon so that you can be sure you are buying the items from the original owner, and any handset that doesn't come with all these mentioned items should be avoided so that you won't face any trouble along the line.

Nigeria is a country that is open to a lot of dangers, and most of the crimes have been recorded with mobile devices compromised, and a high percentage of those cases are linked to second-hand devices or compromised devices, I have been a victim of clipboard phishing before and I sent my $40 worth of Bitcoin to a hacker address because I failed to identify the change when I posted the address on my sending device.

How showoff and second hand device carry dey the same sentence abi I no dey understand wetin you dey try talk. Isn't it because of showoff that people go for things that they can't afford instead of going for second hand?.

99% of things we use in this country is second hand, even the new ones wey we dey value aren't. Only a few that have the money go for the original and some original no be am self because na China. Example, we have iPhones that are of three categories. One from iPhone itself, UK used and a third party production and na so most of the things we dey use for the country be.
Yes, I'm happy you spoke about this, to be honest this is the thing here, sometimes we might to get the more expensive and instead of going for maybe for a new iPhone or UK used, some might be tempted to go for iPhones with no faceID or the phone being tempered in other ways just for it.

The thing na say when you get am, na you go protect am yourself because if you dey depend on factory protection, e fit fail you.
Normal, in the end it boils down to us taking responsibility in keeping our funds safe, but this doesn't mean good device protection is not important because you can be highly responsible whereas hackers can find manufacturer exploit to get access to your device. And this why it's often said that we should update our devices.

You combine security advice with investment advice, regarding security updates it may be best to avoid using any hot wallet and start learning how to set up cold storage. Regarding trading and if you are a beginner, focusing on Bitcoin makes profits so it is better to limit trading than to buy more Bitcoin.
These are things that have been spoken much in the forum and I also have to agree that it can not be emphasize really too much, since they are the basic things needed keeping our funds safe.

It is true that we need to take the safety and security of our assets very seriously especially now that it is end of the year coupled with the fact that the economy of the nation is really dwindling and people are left with no option than to making sure they survive.

Scenario as this usually causes spike in crime scenes in countries as people would look for alternative means of survival  their by resolving to crime. However, it is upon us as individuals to take our safety very seriously as it is approaching the festive season.  Keeping your Crypto lifestyle on a low key, do not carry out transactions in the public places, afford talking about it in the public places, your phone should not have any Crypto attractive profile picture or anything that would attract eyes to it because that is the first thing people notice in public places when one brings out their phone to operate or make a call.

As for your assets, do not open in public places, avoid checking or tracking of market prices, statistics and other Crypto activities in public places which you are not familiar with even within your vicinity do not do that.
Always keep information to your loved ones about your movement if you want to go far, do not keep them in suspense on your whereabouts. Avoid much trading this time as you never can tell how the market would look like since it's festive season and people would want to cash out for the festive period. Of you must trade, do it with as little as you could afford to lose.

I completely agree with you, a word is enough for the wise,it better to be self vigilant at this period, don't be so confident and disclose your cryptocurrency holdings,we appreciate your expertise and we have to be more cautious.

This period that the price of bitcoin is on the run, there will be a lot of things that want to be like a scam, and that is why everyone needs to be very conscious of what they want to do, and if you are already holding, it's going to be a problem because you will always be a target to many of them who are just starting to invest in bitcoin Ai, there is nothing to do but to take your security of your assets seriously because many people don't know the value of keeping their assets safe.

Everyone doesn't even need to know that you are interested in cryptocurrency because of its potential uses, but even if they do, it will prevent them from targeting you and ultimately costing you money because some people may try to find your seed phrase, scam you, or even set you up. This is something to be wary of in order to protect your assets.

If you wan use bitcoin and you no wan lose am, then you must take security very seriously, being your own bank no dey easy at all, if you make mistake, scammers go collect your bitcoin and you no go fit recover am. Cold storage dey very important, use online wallet for funds wey small, for big one, use offline wallets.

That being said, no go dey talk about bitcoin everywhere you go, many people dey fall victim to $5 wrench attacks, if you no wan be one of them, keep your coins private.

The rise have brought joy to every bitcoiner out there while some are regretting their decision for not adopting bitcoin, it’s on them though. Some people will definitely get carried away by this achievement and would want to share the good news with some friends and other people without knowing it’s a terrible idea. We are in a world where no one can be trusted anymore and so we should always be security conscious with everything especially when about money and properties so you are right, we should not get carried away and shouldn’t share any personal information or information about our bitcoin achievements with the public and also be wary of some friends they cannot all be trusted. We should try as much as possible to stay away from the public eye so we are not targeted.

Talking about the country, this is really a very tough period and everyone will be trying to make ends meet and will go to any extent just to make it happen and this period na actually period wey people de do bad things and crime rates de increase badly so we should be very cautious about how we share personal information na when dem know say you get something na that time dem go target you.

The safety of our assets is very important but some people don’t take it seriously they think security is only about writing down your seed phrase and private key whereas it actually goes way beyond that, there are other things also like being disciplined not to show off or flaunt your crypto achievements in public and also not disclosing your personal data to people you don’t know, safeguarding your personal information is also as important as safeguarding your seed phrase.

@OP, thank you for dis advice for newbies and a reminder to us wey don know about di importance of security for our Bitcoin matter. As we de enter dis festive season, scammers dem want to make money like everybody else to enjoy Christmas and new year celebrations. Anybody wey no de security conscious fit to become dem victims, dat na why we need to protect our coins and also upgrade di security of our gadgets. All di points wey you talk for di OP are duely noted, and I de in complete agreement with everything wey you talk.

I know say as Bitcoin don de pump for di bull run level, many newbies go de get distractions for many altcoins, my advice for dem be say make dem shine dem eyes and DYOR well well before dem go buy. I know say many scam projects go de spring up with fake promises and people wey no know about di crypto space go believe say all of dem de reputable like Bitcoin. If e no be Bitcoin e no fit to be like Bitcoin, so make newbies understand say most altcoins na gamble dem be.

Those are valid points you just made above at O.P, regarding the importance of security as we journey through the bull run, and most especially approach the festive season, because ever since the price of Bitcoin skyrocketed, it's easily noticeable to know those who may have invested in Bitcoin and held on to it till current bull run that has occurred during this short few days, hence, the only advice I can give to newbies is to not save or leave their Bitcoin on exchanges, because it's times like this the most exchanges with tight security normally gets hacked, and all it's users will stand the chance of losing all their Bitcoins. So the only way to prevent such is to have your funds in non custodial wallets, where you own the private key to your wallet.

If we are going to discuss on how to be precautive during these season not just the festive season but also now that Bitcoin is fast growing into an ATH, the actual measure would be to keep our Bitcoin related sittings private, our discussion should merely be on the surface rather than issuing sensitive information that can lead to becoming a victim for theft. Second measure based on the phone hack, or plans on changing our devices, we should also watch out for our gmails which is a very confidential information if left open for another user. I believe it would be more scary to lose everything we got at this point when everything looks profiting.

And it's a festive period, so we will surely have people that wants to showoff or put themselves in a position where they will become vulnerable to theft. I believe it is very possible to enjoy the festive period without putting ourselves in danger, though this recent bullish movement met most of our expectations which we all definitely expect to trigger over excitement among ourselves.

Hmmmmn, I'm not sure if buying a second hand device is a problem, because I don't think anyone will want to buy a device that still contains data/information of the previous users. Second hand phone these days are usually wiped before been sold, so there is nothing to be scared of.

To be honest, this recent bullish movement was very tempting. There was this urge to buy as some of these alts kept increasing in price. But it's very important that we are careful with whatever project we choose (for those that do altcoins), so you won't be left stranded with a value far lesser than what you bought.

Everyone forgets that they are alone responsible for their own security and privacy, and those of you who believe that second-hand devices are bad for preserving or storing sensitive information are mistaken. I stored my wallet on a used phone I purchased a few years back, and I have never complained about it being compromised.

The sole disadvantage of purchasing secondhand gadgets is data remnants, which may pose a privacy concern.
Purchasing a fair used devices doesn't mean that the security of that person is at risk, though it would be at risk only if it a stolen device and doesn't come from the rightful owner. But like i know buying device such as smart phone or any data storage device can only be at risk if that storage is completely damage and doesn't retain information when stored, we can assumed such device is already damage before the owner sold it out, but talking about phone well, i have also bought a fairly used phone as then and i was using it without any issues and what i did was to format the phone the reset it to factory setting then everything turned back as carry come without any issues till date. Perhaps, if you want to sell your phone or any of your devices it's always advisable to format it and then reset it to factory settings before issuing it out to people otherwise they could work against the information stored in such devices.

    • Don't because of show-off go for second-hand devices, especially when you know you will be having your coins on that devices.
In as much as second handed phone is cheaper, we should be cautious about the impending dangers ahead. because hackers may install viruses or malwareawtimes in a phone, and sell it to a person. and if the buyer decides to put sensitive information like seed phrase or key in his device, it may be used against him.  They may automaticall swindle out the fund in that waller. So carefulness should be adhered to.

    • Don't because of FOMO invest in any altcoins and also be cautious in the amount you invest now, don't go all out on cryptocurrency,  remember it's volatile.
That is the more reason most people invest wrongly and later regret and put the blam on others, which it was totally there fault because they lack Proper orientation and understanding and forgot to DYOR. And it ended with regret.

    • Never ignore security measures for coins and stay safe.
The most important security measures for coin is keeping your seed phrase safe and secure to avoid being locked 🔒 out.

    • Don't because of show-off go for second-hand devices, especially when you know you will be having your coins on that devices.
I want to know the implications of getting a used device, because aside from my Android device, the iOS I use is UK used, which I have been using for over a year now without any single issue with it in terms of security. In fact, I even seem to trust it more than my Android device since what I use it for is limited.

I know about clipboard viruses, etc., but can a device that is cleanly wiped be infected by a phishing link or whatever kind of malware that can steal users data without the owner's consent?
Android devices has more tendency of malware infections in this aspect and sometimes even factory-reset may not remove  such malware which might be a Trojan virus where by an attacker maybe able to exploits and bring other malware like the clipboard virus or others. This also goes for laptops and PC's. Actually UK used IOS has lower tendency of being affected by it, they are actually more secure than the Android, even in terms of seconded phones.

Though another thing to watch out for, is the number of years for security on that device, I won't recommend anyone in getting a device that doesn't offer security update anymore especially when they plan on having their coin on that device, this is including IOS devices, attackers might be able to find exploit device and such a person may become a victim of it.

Also or because of need for a device with high specification, one will go for a brand that is not common or popular and having little to no trust, there are tendency  the device will be lacking security updates or the security features of such device can be easily exploited by attackers and also the device specifications might also fail to do well even against a lower specification of some top or popular devices. https://www.kaspersky.com/blog/how-to-avoid-threats-from-budget-android-devices/49565/

This is a very good advise and I love that statement times are hard or things are hard rather, that alone would encourage everyone to be wise and careful with the way they go about things, we all in this country know how the crime rate increases during times like this that's close to the festive period and some people would want to take advantage of their fellow humans success to meet up their target. For instance our country is not very Bitcoin friendly based on the regulations on Cryptocurrency and an average Nigerian security personnel sees Bitcoiners as  fraudsters, apart from Robbery your neighbour or envious friends could even set you up with dubious security personnels and extort your hard earned money, so this period it would be smart for one to keep their success to themselves and pipe low instead posting on the media or sharing it with people.

Our manner of exposure such as discussion in the public or to some untrusted people in both online and offline can actually make anyone vulnerable to this victim so, let carefulness always be our watchword.
this is so true. Sometimes over excitement on the little profit we've seen can cause one to inform the people you're not suppose to let know about your crypto holdings details on the quantity of crypto you have in your possession which will expose you to the risk that might endanger your life. Even though people are bragging about gettnn the highest profit during this bull, that urge of joining them to show off that you're also doing well in the crypto space shouldn't be allowed to thrive in you.

Anytime you step out on the street and interact with the regular guy that's struggling, seeing how hardened life has turned the majority of them to, it should guide you to be as careful as possible because you can't really trust anyone again.

The threat outside is almost as high as the threat you're exposed to from malware, phishing attacks and hackers that are trying to get access to your device. Even though it might seems like you're being selfish, it's not even advisable to let people know what you're doing to earn money regardless of how much they persuade you to. Help as few as you're able to help and don't do too much so you don't attract eyes to yourself and endanger all you've struggled to build over these months.
