when is b2 ready to ship? Its a shame prices went up... at $425 & current BTC price...these things will never ROI =/

To be fair, it's the same all over and who is actually delivering on time? KNC Miner has been cool but are a little behind. Bitfury is on schedule I believe. BFL is a NO GO. Avalon we don't trust. Etc.

I see Barntech is working on a price drop now - very nice of you and I hope Bitfury cooperates!

I think DIY'ers are between a rock and a hard place. The companies that make chips also sell machines (for the most part) and they don't want to undercut themselves. (Yes, sort of a monopoly)
Just look at the hash rates between companies - they are trying to keep it tight it seems. KNC Miner recently changed that but they are in a unique position to. Hopefully that lights a fire under Bitfury and the other companies. Competition here is great. Hopefully more work for Barntech.

Hoping our chips come late this week or early next! Keep on keepin on Barntech,
IAS

I have read that bitfury are reducing the cost of the chips for their v2 boards, and so this is possibly where the price drop has started.  Why they would put the price up and then immediately down is anyones guess.

Still its great to know they do have the communities interests at heart.

While KNC have done well, it appears as if in order to get out the gate first, their firmware and some components have been sub par.  You just have to look at the number of firmware updates already and some customers stating their machines chips are running at 83 degrees c.  Then again, this is their first foray into design and build for asics and issues like this will crop up no matter how much you test.

I'm sure all the legit companies mean well (possibly excluding BFL who seem to find it amusing to screw over customers)

Barntech,

Any chance of adding the card dimensions and mounting hole sizes etc on the OP?

Sorry know you are uber busy.

Thanks

Dimensions: 102x102 for the 8 board (fits in a drive bay)
39x52 for the thumb, more or less. Its an odd shape so not the full rectangle.

Holes: 3.3mm hole size. sized to fit standard M3 screws

Thanks Smiley *orders standoffs*

I brought a few of these on ebay. They are 12V fans but if you plan to do some soldering you can use the connectors to power the pcb's 5V

Working on a price drop. Seeing what we can do. Stay tuned

Cool, at a decent price, I would get in B2 for sure... depending on timeframe of B2 actually shipping. =)

Can someone just make it easy on me and tell me exactly what to buy for a miniplane and 4 boards?  I do plan on cooling and overclocking (if possible).  Grin

I do currently have an extra Corsair CX600M if that will work...

Barntech, this is why I liked your forum!  We could have different threads for different topics.  Maybe this thread could be used for updates and getting more people on board (no pun intended) and your forum could be used to dig into these sub-topics (power, cooling, overclocking, setup, etc.)?

I think this is a good idea actually. Why don't we do that; continue PSU, cooling, heatsink, bitcoin apocalype/revolution tec discussion over at the forum and keep this one clear for getting more people 'on board'  Cheesy ... I'm not too fussed, but i did like the way individual discussion could be started over there. Please feel free to keep using it everyone.

Yeah but as far as I know I bought my boards into batch 1 and might have accidentally paid batch 2 rates. I'm waiting for Bartech to respond to my pm.

what the hell is going on here

Hey Guyver.

Just sent you a PM. I am happy to honour any previous quote that i made. I think the issue is that previously we weren't including the double scroll in the quote and having it there tipped it over into the next bracket. Anyway, check the message and i'm sure we can work it out.

So i was looking through my old pc parts bin looking for Power Supplies I could use for 4x Boards and a Miniplane when i found this:

Good News: 40A on 5v
(Potential) Bad News: old style 20pin ATX connector.

Can we get confirmation that 20 pin can be used in the 24 pin slot or not for the drillbit miniplane? I know you can do this in some circumstances, bit since one of the missing pins is 5v, would this cause issues since the drillbit boards rely on 5v power?

I was looking at the photos of the boards and the missing 5V and Ground might put a strain on the 5V lines from the psu but should still be possible.  However You should be able to use the 4 pin Molex connectors on each board and then the ATX connector on the miniplane for power control.

Or if you don't mind the strain you could get one of these:

I've just put up a photo of the Drillbit Hub for stacking 2 miniplanes together. Scroll down and check it out
Updated blank board prices. 1-5 boards $25 each, 5+ boards $20 each

    Building and testing this week.
Photo up of the Drillbit Miniplane 4 stack
Proto PCBs should be back early next week
Some more info about the boards.
Chips ordered! Big thanks to Dave at Megabigpower for allowing us to secure a reel at the old price, because the prices are going up!
    Board design finished. Photo up

Drillbit Thumb photo - board design complete.
Board and Assembly prices are now up.
8 chip Drillbit Board (including chips) - $300
1 chip Drillbit Thumb (including chip) - $99

Sample chips have arrived. Prototyping underway.
We are now accepting payments via Paypal. Orders can be made at http://drillbitsystem.com/

I didn't see this the first hundred times I read this. Did the prices go up for batch 1 at some point. 425 is the price with assembly right? I hope I didn't pay too much by mistake.

Currently only one batch is.  Batch 1 is done and awaiting payment from a few people which had lower prices due to we secured a reel of 2500 chips before the price increase.  Batch 2 which is the current running batch was AFTER the price increase per chip and hence why the boards are $425 with assembly instead of the $300 for Batch 1

These are the current prices for Batch 2:
Drillbit 8 Board - $425
Drillbit Thumb - $130
Drillbit Miniplane - $40
Standalone Chips - $37

And these WERE the prices for Batch 1:
Drillbit 8 Board - $300
Drillbit Thumb - $99
Standalone Chips - $25

Can we just get the correct plug in and put in on the PS Barntech posted above?

Thanks,
IAS
Absolutely, just cut off a few plugs from old IT gear, a little heat shrink and solder up a loom. Use good quality cable though.

Slide heat shrink over cable, solder cable, slide heatshrink over the join, heat the shrink. plug her in and mine..  Wink

Thanks, my neighbor is an ace at electronics. I wonder how complicated it is to wire an ATX cable though? (How many cables are there?)

IAS

Unless you have the plug and clips for it it can be hard Tongue  But here's the pinouts for v1 and v2:

What version can we expect the one on the mini planes to be. I probably have an old 20pin that probably won't do me any good.
From the pics the miniplanes use the V2 24 Pin.  However IF your PSU has enough power on the 5V rails you can use your 20 pin as long as you plug it in correctly
