Not sure who has the power...but is it possible to now change the Devcoin logos on devtome/devcoin.org to the new one?

Ask Jasin, he hosts devtome.

Services are growing as payment systems accepting many alts including dvc are in place.. I have no doubt that will come aslong as we have it listed on some higher volume exhcnages ppl will see the credability and accept it as a form of payment. I also think price wont price slowly like its falling it will rise voilently based on the structure of the project. First step is to ensure code is good and exhcnages are in place.

I disagree, to an extent, about the exchanges and code structure. There are a fair number of exchanges that accept DVC already (such as Vircurex). Having a nice codebase is always an advantage, but I highly doubt that this contributed much to the meteoric rise of Bitcoin; the code snippets I've seen from that fork weren't pretty by any means.

Of course, more exchanges are always nice since it promotes a competitive marketplace. And I somewhat agree on more altcoin-based payment systems...but that means users don't necessarily need to use DVC for purchases and can use whatever other alts they please.

Well what I meant was that if we were on a high volume exchange the chance of a sustaining pump would come about as a higher chance than just on vircurex. Once that happens the market cap can be utilized to offer bigger bounties which in turn would help the project much more and drive price a little higher, allowing other bounties to be offered etc etc an exponential cycle ensues until an equilibrium is found again... thats what I meant by the project structure not code structure per say. It's a unique idea that either lifts off or withers away like it is doing now.

Bounties wouldn't be the only contributor but awareness rising would drive more vendors and more open source communities to get involved, adding to the velocity of money which is a good gauge of price.

agreed more access and awareness, features is what is going to drive Devcoin, what if we paired it directly with OT and began using that infrastructure to aid adoption?

OK, I think I'm all set, except for one thing.  What is the actual formatting (syntax) used for a subcategory?  I tried to look that up last night but couldn't find it.  I know for category, it's [[category:specific category]] but how would it look on the edit page for a subcategory?

OK, I'll plan on that, but it will be mostly next week.  Need to get a part replaced on my computer this week so I'll be out of commission for a couple days.

So, just to be clear... I'm assigning general categories, but not trying to get any more specific than that, correct?
Don't worry I don't have time to start just yet either.

I found from experience that by the time I'd worked out what the article was about I may as well just create the subcategory for it. It's not really necessary at this point I guess, just that by assigning for example an article about Hurricanes as 'Science' I may as well just create the sub categories of Earth Sciences - Atmospheric Sciences to save myself (or somebody else) doubling up on required work later. I just used that Open Directory as guide and went from there. I think I created most of the more obvious categories already, so shouldn't now require much more specificity than what already exists I hope - at least that was my initial intention.

Also, once I assign one general category (or more if warranted), do I then remove it from the front page by simply deleting it on the edit screen?
Yep I just had (at least) two tabs open, then delete from front page as I go along or as a batch

Finally, I apologize for not adding you back as an admin originally.  I knew better, but was in the "users, writers" mode and left it at that.  Glad ranlo fixed that Smiley
No worries, I wouldn't have expected you to as haven't been doing any admin for a while.

I'm not sure but I'm guessing [[category:(category):(subcategory)

I still am classified as a regular user, am I supposed to have admin access?

Admin access is given according to need, only the sign up admins really need it because it's primary use is to make new accounts.

Looks like I'm going to be helping out with categorizing articles.  I get how to put the main category on.  What about the subcategories?

Also, once you assign a category, do you then take the article off the front page?

Can one of the more experienced category admins please give me the crash course before I get in too deep?

Thanks!
It's subjective, although I tried to stick with broad 'Open Directory Project' categorisations as stated on the top of the page here: http://devtome.com/doku.php

I typed out some info on trying to get writers to help out by each filing their own work, which may help with things: https://bitcointalksearch.org/topic/m.2471894

In summary, I tried to keep the front page categories general (except those related to devcoin and cryptos in particular - where it seemed to make more sense to add more granularity) and then narrow down subcategories, although the process is much the same. It doesn't really matter exactly how it's done so long as there's some logic (and you'll find quite a lot of overlap with some articles - that may mean they're categorised as 'History' and 'Economics' for example.

And try to create categories as [[[category:topic]] rather than [[topic]]. This means (1) there's no risk of any clash with an actual individual article title and (2) if/when auto categorisation is added the system will be able to do much of the work for us. Just ask me if you have any questions.

I spent quite a while doing categorisations but haven't for a while. Since the login problems I no longer have admin access, but if unthinkingbit or anybody else can restore that I'll give you a hand with it when I can - as basically I wanted to see some interest by others in getting involved before continuing.
-----------
And as a reminder: Would be a great help, a lot quicker and to everyone's benefit if each author could have a run through just their own articles and file them appropriately (example of how to do so in the link above), or at minimum add a category link at the bottom of your article to make the process easier - otherwise pretty much involves reading each post which slows down filing which impacts likely page views and cuts your relative payout.

You should have admin access now.

Ok. How about you work on 'Most Recent' and I'll go through 'Soon to be Categorized and Removed from Start Page'?
It will take a while - probably longer than you think - new articles will be added to your shorter list but that one is perpetual with new additions.

I am supposed to be a file administrator, what am I supposed to do, exactly?

For now you're on standby, because file administrators are brought on in pairs, so that there are always an odd number. If we get a reliable 11th file admin, then I'd message you to upload the receiver file.

The round 28 receiver files have been uploaded to:
http://galaxies.mygamesonline.org/receiver_28.csv
http://devcoinpool.btc-music.com/receiver/receiver_28.csv
http://devcoinblockexplorer.info/receiver/receiver_28.csv
http://devtome.com/files/receiver_28.csv

http://show-me-the-devcoin.info/devtome/receiver_28.csv
http://coinfaucets.tk/receiver_28.csv
http://creativecurrencies.cu.cc/wp-content/uploads/receiver_28.csv

The account file is at:
http://galaxies.mygamesonline.org/account_28.csv

There were 612 original receiver lines, so the average number of devcoins per share is 180,000,000 dvc / 612 = 294,118 dvc. Administrator pay is 79.0 shares, 12.9 percent of the total. The value at vircurex is 0.36 mcbtc/dvc, which works out to 0.106 btc. This times the bitstamp price of 140$ gives a share price of 15$.

People on that list will start getting those coins in round 28, starting at block 112,000. The procedure for generating the receiver files is at:
http://devtome.com/doku.php?id=devcoin#generating_the_files

The next bounties will go into round 29:

Markm, don't you have a fork or something on your github which we could start from?

I think all of the issues were fixed in later bitcoin builds so I0coin has all the fixes and is closest to our code base minus reciever file operation and admin pay allocation.
