Looks like I'm going to be helping out with categorizing articles. I get how to put the main category on. What about the subcategories?
Also, once you assign a category, do you then take the article off the front page?
Can one of the more experienced category admins please give me the crash course before I get in too deep?
Thanks!
It's subjective, although I tried to stick with broad 'Open Directory Project' categorisations as stated on the top of the page here:
http://devtome.com/doku.phpI typed out some info on trying to get writers to help out by each filing their own work, which may help with things:
https://bitcointalksearch.org/topic/m.2471894In summary, I tried to keep the front page categories general (except those related to devcoin and cryptos in particular - where it seemed to make more sense to add more granularity) and then narrow down subcategories, although the process is much the same. It doesn't really matter exactly how it's done so long as there's some logic (and you'll find quite a lot of overlap with some articles - that may mean they're categorised as 'History' and 'Economics' for example.
And try to create categories as [[category:topic]] rather than [[topic]]. This means (1) there's no risk of any clash with an actual individual article title and (2) if/when auto categorisation is added the system will be able to do much of the work for us. Just ask me if you have any questions.
I spent quite a while doing categorisations but haven't for a while. Since the login problems I no longer have admin access, but if unthinkingbit or anybody else can restore that I'll give you a hand with it when I can - as basically I wanted to see some interest by others in getting involved before continuing.

And as a reminder: Would be a great help, a lot quicker and to everyone's benefit if each author could have a run through just their own articles and file them appropriately (example of how to do so in the link above), or at minimum add a category link at the bottom of your article to make the process easier - otherwise pretty much involves reading each post which slows down filing which impacts likely page views and cuts your relative payout.
