Marketing.
Yes, but a minecraft server is typically not having "customers". Its mostly community run. There are so many different servers though that some consider advertising or giving away bitcoins in order to attract players. As I have played on one of those servers I can tell you its not worth it. Its a nice way for people to notice the server, but you either like the people there and stay because of them or you leave. The few satoshi you get per modified block/kill/whatever are not worth it.

I dont see the problem. Someone can earn 5$[1] worth of BTC a week by playing a game, so what? How is that ruining anything for anyone? You can still use bitcoin any way you like. Heck, some kid playing minecraft might get to know bitcoin just because of servers like these.
[1] rough estimate from memory, Id have to check my bookkeeping for acurate numbers.
I understand but the game it self only is worth like $20, earning 5$ a week is a lot. That'd get so many kids out there even more addicted then they are already are, lol. I'm just trying to say, a video game should have what videos games have, fun. This turned into more of a marketing stand point. Now, people are playing and earning at the same time. It's obviously good for business. That's just my point of view.
